You ever have those days where your hair just REFUSES to cooperate?? 🤦‍♂️

An impressive event to say the least! And we may have more of it on the way this week :)

We've put together a map that shows how much rain fell since Friday evening. Some quality rain for areas that really needed it!

With 2.63", Amarillo shattered the daily rainfall record of 0.8" set in 2004. This is also the most rain that has occurred in Amarillo in a day in the month of November on record. The old record (2.36") was set on November 16, 1928. The average amount of precipitation for November in Amarillo is 0.78"... we just saw over 3 times that in one day!

A fantastic explanation of this weekend system by the Amarillo NWS office.

Ginger embracing her inner pumpkin (or PLUMPkin to be more accurate 😌) this year. Hope every one of you have a great holiday today!

Good morning and happy Halloween! 🎃 A couple of things you need to know for today:

1. It is CHILLY this morning, with some areas at or below freezing. Be sure to bundle up as you’re heading out.

2. It will be an overall nice day with sunshine and calm winds. As the kids start trick or treating it will be mostly comfortable (maybe a little cool), but temps will chill down into the 50’s by 7 or 8 later this evening.

30/10/2024

Get those heaters ready! Most of us will drop into the 30’s overnight tonight, with some cities reaching freezing.

Me walking outside wondering why it feels like July when Jalloween is only a week away…

21/10/2024

After a fairly cool weekend, we’ll see warmer temperatures make their return, where 80’s (and possibly some 90’s) look to stick around for most of this week!

14/10/2024

A very active week is ahead! We’ll be talking about possible frost/freezes tomorrow night, a few pretty windy days, along with a multi-day stretch of on and off rain. Buckle up!

11/10/2024

Did you catch the northern lights last night?? Wild that they’ve been visible this far south both back in May and last night!

Here was my camera’s view of the last night! EXACTLY 5 months to the day from when it happened here last! This time was even better as I got to see it even without the camera!

Summertime temps are here to stay for the time being, so you’ll definitely want to dress for the 90’s this week! 😌

A couple of station anniversaries in the weather department coming up this week… Thursday will mark 2 years here for me, and Sunday will mark 38 years here for Doppler Dave, and I couldn’t have asked for a better leader/mentor for a rookie meteorologist like myself. I won’t get into details, but as of Sunday, Dave will have been here 13 years longer than I’ve been alive. 😖

5:30PM Update: Helene is now a Category 4 with 130mph winds. She strengthened from a Cat 1 to a Cat 4 in the span of 12 hours. Insane.

As of 2PM, Hurricane Helene is officially a Category 3 with sustained winds of 120mph. While we’re enjoying the nice weather here, let’s keep the residents of FL, AL, and GA in our thoughts, as it will likely be a very dangerous situation for them.

An icon in the rich history of the Chicago Bulls. Happy retirement, Derrick!

Just a kid from Chicago. Thank you for everything, Derrick 🌹

If you want to impress your friends, throw this phrase at them: The Fujiwhara Effect.

By now, most of you know about Hurricane Helene. Every now and then, a tropical system will meander close to another center of low pressure (in rare cases, another tropical storm or hurricane). When this happens, the two systems of identical cyclonic (counter-clockwise) flow will “dance” around each other, before eventually merging into a single area of low pressure. This dancing/merging is what’s known as the “Fujiwhara Effect”. In the video below, you can see Helene and a low centered over the Midwest cycle around each other before eventually merging late in the day on Friday.

Happy first day of fall!!! We can officially say goodbye to summer 🥳🥳

21/09/2024

As expected, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the majority of the region until 11PM tonight.

21/09/2024

Heavy rain has now moved into the city, which has prompted a flood advisory that will last for about the next four hours.

Photos from Tanner Brammer's post 21/09/2024

Per Doppler Dave and the rest of the weather team, we’re now under FIRST ALERT for today due to the threat of severe storms. ⬇️⬇️

We’ve seen a good bit of activity already today, but everything has remained sub-severe as of so far (the time of writing this: 2PM). However, we’ll likely see the severe risk increase late this afternoon into the evening and possibly last into late tonight. The possibility for a tornado or two will be present, along with some damaging hail, gusty winds, and *especially* flash flooding due to the likelihood of multiple heavy bands of rain moving through areas several times.

***To stay up to date throughout today, stay tuned into Newschannel10’s page as we’ll livestream if/when anything major develops. I’ll also cut into commercial breaks (and programming if necessary) throughout this afternoon and evening.***

Have a great weekend and stay safe! :)

We’ve hit 100 degrees in Amarillo THREE times since I made this post….

It is never a bad day for tacos!

Heads up; there are quite a few showers and weak storms popping up across the area. Not much in Amarillo right now, but the possibility will definitely be there for the next few hours. It’ll be best to keep an eye on the sky and remain weather aware if you’re doing anything outside today. Enjoy your weekend!

13/09/2024

We really hit 100 degrees today in Amarillo 🫠

Came across this photo of Greg Kerr and I during a show several months back; I forgot what we were laughing about but it serves as a reminder how much I love working with the people here at Newschannel10. Happy Thursday!
