Wishing an awesome "Break a Leg!" to the cast of "She Wrote, Died, and Then Wrote Some More" from Tomahawk High School in Wisconsin as they perform in their One Act Play District Competition today. In the words of Alina Deveraux:
"“Now, this part is actually one of the most exciting moments in the book. It happened when I was four and I fell off my bike and skinned my knee. (Reading.) “When I was four, I fell off my bike and skinned my knee.”
Not sure how it applies but it is my favorite line. Have so much fun today!
I love that Theatrefolk is featuring my play "She Wrote, Died, and Then Wrote Some More." I had a blast writing and directing it and it still is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever written.
If you’re looking for the perfect mystery loaded with eccentric and unique characters, betrayals, romance and lots of twists and turns, then Steven Stack’s ‘She Wrote, Died, Then Wrote Some More’ is exactly the play you are looking for!

Great advice for young writers on Encourage a Young Writer Day! There may even be me somewhere in here offering perfectly adequate advice. :-)
My latest play, Horror Movie 102: Failing Just Got Deadlier, is the new featured play for August at Theatrefolk. It's a stand-alone sequel to Horror Movie 101, that continues the tale of why you shouldn't live in St. Claire, MN if you are a teen prone to questionable choices.
If you thought our comedic play, ‘Horror Movie 101: Failing Can be Deadly’ was great, then buckle up, because FAILING JUST GOT DEADLIER.

In honor of sharing one of the most epic poems that I've written with middle school students today, I will share it here so you can all appreciate the brilliance that was 11th grade Steven Stack. And yes, I did type every single one of my poems using all caps without punctuation.

Loved this review of my book "The Bottom of the Lake."
"Recommended for young readers who are brave at heart and love the adventures of summer camp and also for adults who remember the complicated feelings of being young and who wouldn’t mind going back for a moment, The Bottom of the Lake stands out as a genre-busting tale full of jokes and scares you don’t want to miss."

You might be wondering, where besides the United States, do most of my plays get performed? I have to say Australia, which makes me oddly very happy. I suppose they get my humor?
Thank You Bear by Greg Foley is one of my favorite books. I've read over and over again to both of my kids and with my students, from 1st graders to high school students. The message is beautiful and the bear is simply adorable. I highly recommend you check it out.

I really liked this trailer for "Ashland Falls." It was really fun to watch. I wish we did these things when I was in high school to promote shows.
Ashland Falls Teaser Trailer A high school receives a mysterious play without a name on it and new director who seems to know a little too much about the show. What happens when the play...
This book was written on a challenge from my friend and writer Alex Bledsoe. It's based on one of my plays by the same name. Here's a brief write-up of what it's about with a link to where you can purchase it.
Four girls. Four stories. And an ending none of them saw coming.
When Vanessa, Lindsey, and Claire sneak away from Camp Kimi for a night of junk food and ghost stories, they meet Dani, a strange and distant girl none of them have seen before. As each tells her own scary tale, they reveal personal truths they could never share directly. But the newcomer has a story of her own, and before they know it, the three friends find themselves an unwitting part of it -and there might be no escape.

Normally for every show I do, I take a cast shot. With the show being completely on Zoom, that was not possible. So . . . here are pictures of every cast from Forte Studios's performance of "Trapped!"
Hi everyone! This is my new playwright/author page apparently. Cool stuff will be added. Just not tonight.
