A lot of people want to know how I feel about Alma's Agricultural and Vocational Program. Here are my thoughts:

I am passionate about education because Alma Schools are where I was given the foundation and direction for my future. Alma Schools provided me with the tools needed to learn and an opportunity to follow my interests, successfully equipping me to choose a career path for myself. Every student deserves those opportunities, which is why there is no better time than now for Alma Schools to be investing in Agricultural and Vocational education.

There are many methods for expanding education and building skillsets, including college, apprentice programs, internships, and on-the-job training. The ability to pursue such a wide array of opportunities highlights the importance of incorporating Agricultural and Vocational Studies in our schools. By giving students the opportunity to learn and have their passions turn into a career path, we are not only investing in our students, but also our communities and state.

Agriculture is Arkansas’s largest industry and the lifeblood of our society. Jobs in the trade industry are also in high demand and skilled workers are critical to our community and way of life. I believe the demand for skilled workers will continue to grow exponentially over the next 10 years as more baby boomers retire and leave the workforce.

Alma has a reputation of giving students opportunities to learn fundamentals, but also the freedom to explore their interests and passions through Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, CTE (Career and Technical Education), and now a much-needed Agricultural and Vocational Program. The diversification being offered for our students is enhancing their education experience and will pay dividends for our community.

There are approximately 9 weeks until the School Board election. Each week, I’ll be highlighting a different statutory duty of School Board members, as outlined by the Arkansas School Boards Association. Per the Arkansas School Board Association, the most important thing to recognize as a new board member, is that we are single members of a body that must function as a unit. I want to take this opportunity to highlight Alma’s currently appointed board members. To read their bios, check out the Alma School District’s Board of Education Members webpage at, https://www.almasd.net/Page/16 .
