When a friend sent a night time photo of her home with Christmas lights, I was inspired to do another night sky.

Halfway Rock Lighthouse is located in the outer most part of Casco Bay. We have spent may hours boating in Casco bay and it was always a treat to have the waters calm and visit the waters around Halfway Rock Lighthouse. There were always plenty of seals on the rocks calling this area home. We would turn off the motor and drift so that we could hear the ocean, the birds and seals.

My neighborhood has been the inspiration for starting A Thread in Time's Housework. When covid started, we would walk around town and look at the architectural details. We would talk about the pride in workmanship, the lives lived in the homes and the stories within the walls of the life events lived there. I started taking pictures of the houses, homes, and decided to capture them by making a quilted depiction. This house is the first one with a night time sky. My photo is a day time shot, but I was inspired to try a night sky.

Two photos by 2 different people, one I took and the other I found. So I decided to try 2 different styles of replicating the subject, and here are the results..

I wish there were more before pictures. When the She Shed project started the interior was dark old style paneling with dirt and spider webs from years of being a neglected tool/storage shed. It had a bad musty oder and I avoided it for the first five years we lived here. So one day recently I came home and Randy Finamore had started painting the interior to make it more inviting for a future garden shed for me. Well finding out that it had insulation and electricity changed the plans for the out come. Paneling and ceiling became white. Over the old tile floor we laid pine. The exterior went from white to yellow with blue trim. The slate walk got tweaked and a deck was added (deck will be painted soon)

Darts anyone? One year for Christmas Randy made a dart board cabinet as a gift. Once again Randy rummaged through is antique door supply to come up with materials for this cabinet. It came out perfect.

This was a different twist on housework. In the late spring I photographed this house and added it to the "to do" list. The house was changing owners as I decided to start work on this project. The original owners request the home to be done as i was making it and I loved the house so much that I thought the new owners would like one too. And they did. As I worked on the 2 pieces simultaneously, I found that no 2 objects are a like. As hard as I tried to make them exact copies, they each ended up having their own personality. Similar but yet different. The art of hand made!

For Abby's birthday a couple of years ago Randy put a new top on her farm table. He made the top out of 2" thick pine which Abby requested. The pine being a soft wood would reflect years of love from use. The top was finished with a rich walnut color and a food safe wax polish.

For fun and decoration it was time to add shutters to the camp and house. The camp needed to have traditional pine tree shutters. The house, being more of a cottage than a colonial cape, and keeping with the informal cottage idea Randy made acorn shutters. Wouldn't you like theme shutters for your house?

A few years ago Randy worked on Abby and Erik's house to help create a master bedroom. The new master bedroom transformed from combining 2 rooms in the ell of their second floor. As with this size project it lead to removing old doors. Last year they moved and the doors were offered to Randy. Their new house needed a storage cabinet in their master bathroom. Randy took the opportunity to use the old doors to create a storage cabinet for their new bath. the storage cabinet is beautiful and was greatly appreciated, not just for the storage, or the fact that Randy made it, but it included history too.

The Flower Spot, one of my favorite shops in town. Who doesn't love flowers? Jennifer supplies our town with beautiful gifts each day and I have been lucky enough to receive several bouquets created by her hand.

Richmond is a never ending source of housework projects. I love doing brick buildings. This is an amazing home that is on my street. I hope you enjoy it too.

The housework for this home was fun to do. The request was to include the flowering tree. It was a great opportunity to learn how to include landscaping that added to the completed project without distracting or over powering the finished home.

The door is where the first impression of a house is formed. It is like the wrapping on a present. This is a door on a Belfast, Maine home.
