Today is sponsor round-up day!

When we started this little contest we were hoping to get at least 5 sponsors so we could offer a nice prize pool.
Not in our wildest dreams did we think we would gather so many cool prizes from so many awesome sponsors
We are honoured that so many generous sponsors want to help make this contest a reality!

If I had known this in advance I would have let someone else organize the Peculiar Robot Contest so I could actually enter! :P

However, my loss is your win! So come and join us in the contest!

Please check out our sponsors and make sure they won't regret sponsoring the Peculiar Robot Contest.

After a short hiatus we are back with more sponsors!

Today we wish to put Hanco Workshop in the spotlight.
Hanco Workhop makes high quality 3D designs for printing. They include busts from various robot franchises, detail up kits, and conversion kits.
Besides making and selling the files they also provide a print on demand service for their parts, for decent prizes too.
Their shop also features a selection of paints, thinner and glue. As well as high quality decals by their desing.
In addition Hanco Workshop also offers a painting service, where you can have them paint up your model to a very high standard. Great for people like me who can build better than they can paint :P

Hanco Workhop has offered to sponsor our humble contest with some of their fantastic decals.

Look up their website and see for yourself what they have to offer (I strongly recommend the detail up parts).

BREAKING NEWS!

We have a trophee!!

Natter-Kit (one of our sponsors) has kindly offered to not ony donate a very cool mecha kit, but they also offered to create a trophee for our contest.
Following this they surprised us with a very cool model kit trophee.
Yes, you read that right, our trophee is a model kit.
They will supply a trophee for the first 3 places in our contest, each with a differently numbered faceplate.
The model is crammed with cool details (check out its butt in the extra pictures) and it's also possible to build it without the numbered faceplate, which will uncover some cool techy bits.

We are very grateful for this offer, and hope you guys like the trophee as much as we do.

Give them a like, follow, or just a thank you :P

The more attentive of you will have noticed that we skipped a week on our (semi)regular sponsor shout-out. But don't fear, there are still more sponsors!

This week we would like to focus on MCMS, the Mech Case Model Shop.
MCMS creates nifty little detail-up pieces for mecha. Ranging from power pipe covers to heat sinks and more.
They operate a webshop where you can buy their printed parts. These come in amazing (jealousy inducing) high quality and resolution.
MCMS will be donating some of their outstanding detail parts for our prize pool.

Check out their webshop www.mechcase.com and support them by buying some of their parts to make your entry pop a bit more.
Or follow them on Instagram:

or our (semi-)regular sponsor shout-out we have something different today.
MDMB, one of the best diorama kit makers out there will be sponsoring our contest!

MDMB is the brainchild of Marco Doeser, who is a very experienced (and very, very good) diorama builder.
The cool part is that MDMB produces high quality, high detail kits of dioramas that you can use to supplement your models, or use as a basis for your own particular storydriven display.
And for the best part, MDMB will be donating one (to be determined) diorama kit for our prize-pool!
These kits give you everything you need to create a stunning base which can complement your model, without needing to design and build it yourself. Perfect for those like me, who prefer to build robots, not surroundings.

Take a look at the MDMB page for all the wonderful dioramas available.

Took me a while but it’s essentially done.
Inspired by a sketch by Kow Yokoyama (I think), I can’t find the sketch anymore for the life of me…
But I am sure it looks pretty much as it should 😉

It combines a bunch of failed projects and leftover 3d printed parts. As well as just about anything that works.

24/04/2024

This week our sponsor shout-out goes out to Natter Kit!
Natter Kit makes cool and unusual 3d printed kits, among which are some very odd mecha (which we love, obviously).
Always a patron of the fine arts, Natter Kit has decided to generously sponsor our contest by donating a physical copy of his Aletheia mecha kit.

"ALETHEIA" In Greek mythology, Aletheia was personified as a Greek goddess, the goddess of truth.
The model is in 1:100 scale, one of the more common scales for mecha models, and is approximately 152 mm (or 6 inches for our Imperial friends). This is the first Mecha of a series that aims to take up ancient vestiges in a modern context, and the best news is that this model kit can be yours!

Today the sponsor in the spotlight is Gundam Nederland.
THE Dutch Gundam Community, Gundam Nederland has strong social media presence and consists of a nice and diverse bunch of modellers that enjoy building, you guessed it, Gundams and similar mecha. The group is very open without any gatekeeping or discrimination against minority mecha. They have a policy of hobby first, drama second, with very laid-back and reasonable admins. They also organize online and live events, from contests to build-days. From beginner to advanced builder, this is one of the best places to socialize with fellow builders.
And by pure coincidence this week marks their 4th anniversary!

Gundam Nederland kindly donated an HG kit of the JDG-009K (Death Army), a Gundam Seed A4 cutting mat, and an HG kit of the venerable grandaddy of gundams: the RX-78.

For last tuesdays sponsor we have a very special one!
Kallamity!
One of my favorite mecha designers and a great allround artist (and great guy!). He doesn't just make mecha (but he does them incredibly well), he also makes some really cool sculptures and paintings.
Kallamity is also know for the Abakan books, which are treasure troves of weird and cool designs and details. As well as a great resource for scratchbuilding and kitbashing tips, and some nice mecha-universe storytelling.

Some of his mecha are available as garage kits and are really worth it in terms of detail and building pleasure.
Kallamity has donated one of the supercool new edition Bower kits for us to give away to a lucky winner!
The new edition comes with ton of optional parts, so after building your favorite, you are left with great parts for your next kitbash :P

Another week, another sponsor!

This week we will focus on Gameyy Builds. Gameyy Builds is a model and diorama maker from the USA who focuses on storytelling. He is currently working on an extensive world building project with interwoven storylines and a huge cast of characters. He is building and expanding this world by designing and building a variety of kitbashed robots, vehicles, and more. An upcoming tie-in novel will add even more story and lore.
Gameyy Builds showcases his projects on his YouTube channel where he features videos of the builds from planning to painting, accompanied by short background stories. Some of his more popular designs are available as shirts, posters, and stickers on his website.

Gameyy Builds kindly donates a sticker pack and one (random) t-shirt of his designs.

If you didn't know him yet, go check his YouTube and lose yourself in many hours of soothing build videos and cool stories.

This weeks sponsor is the renowned robot illustrator David Diez. He is a very productive illustrator who comes up with all sorts of weird and cool robots. Some of which may be very good inspiration for the Peculiar Robot Contest.
He has graciously donated his '46 Robots' book plus a sticker pack with all kinds of robot fun!
For an idea of the books content, check out this youtube video.

Tuesday sponsorpost.

No we are not late, we were just testing your patience!

This week we would like to highlight Modelbouwenzo (MBE).
MBE is a scale-model and supplies shop with an actual brick and mortar location in the beautiful Hoorn. In addition to the physical location they also have a very well stocked webshop.
They somehow always have some weird kits that you won't easily find somewhere else, and if you need paint, look no further, they have just about everything (seriously, like half of their shop is made of filled paint racks).

If you are ever in the neighborhood, you should really check out their shop, you may even run into Plainries as he spends way too much time there.

MBE kindly donates a 25 EUR voucher for their shop.

A week has gone past and it's time for another sponsor.
This week we have not one, but two sponsors! In one package!

But first:
- Do you ever get tired of scoring plastic over and over again until it is cut?
- Or trying to saw that crazy breakable acrylic?
Your worries are no more! (assuming you win this prize of course)

ZeonMarket and EchoTech join forces to bring us the ZO-91 Ultrasonic Cutter!
This amazing piece of tech cuts plastics and resins as if they are butter.
If you are into scratchbuilding or kitbashing this tool will save you an enormous amount of time (and in my case, swearing).
I have one and it is my goto cutter for... well almost anything. I even weld plastic with it.
If you want to see it in action, check out the youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/c/Echotechoverseaschannel

ZeonMarket is one of the main gunpla and modeling tool sellers in northern Europe and the official distributor of some amazing brands among which are DSPIEA and of course EchoTech. They have a large variety of... everything really and great service as well as a very nice and fun team.
EchoTech is a Japanese brand of Ultrasonic cutters with great high-quality models. They are also quite sturdy as I have yet to break mine and I am not gentle with any tools. They also have the most amazingly friendly social media team and representative.
These two giants have previously teamed to give out the ZO-91 Ultrasonic Cutter at the prestigious Scale Model Challenge and we are honored to have this dynamic duo aboard for our humble contest!

Check out their websites and socials to learn more about these generous sponsors.

The sponsor in the spotlight this week is none other than Aves Studio!
Making one of the best sculpting clays around, they have an amazing track record for hobbyists and industry alike. Their products are used around the world by just about everyone in the creative sector be they educators, students, special FX & prop builders, taxidermists, wood carvers, model makers, figurine/toy sculptors, jewellers, crafters, or repair persons.
As their clay is an epoxy-type clay, there is no need for ovens or the like. For me, the most amazing thing is the incredible softness which helps with making smooth organic transitions and shapes. After curing it becomes rock hard without becoming brittle. Yeah, I am a fanboy of this stuff.

Aves Studio will donate one pound of Apoxie Sculpt white, a bottle of their finishing solution, and a clay matt.
Meaning that the lucky winner of this prize will be able to sculpt up an entry for the next contest ;)

Take a look at their products at: https://avesstudio.com/about-us/

Made some special ‘datadriven’ FR.3DD13’s for a company. They give one out each month for the most ‘datadriven’ employee.
Twelve were commissioned, so I’ll be busy for a bit ;)

For this week's 'Meet the sponsors' we have the amazing Joram 'Polynoise' van Loenen.
Joram is a strong supporter of our motto 'the weirder, the better' as can be seen from his creations over at https://joramvanloenen.gumroad.com/
Apart from making 3d models he is also really good at scale model building, a real all-rounder.

Joram kindly donates a kitbash set containing some of his printed designs, among which are these cute little (1/20) pilot critters.

Behind the scenes we have been working hard to obtain some cool prizes for the winners of the Peculiar Robot Contest. To make sure our generous sponsors get their due attention and praise we will feature a weekly ‘Meet the sponsors’ to highlight these wonderful people and companies.

We will kick off this series with the awesome Richard 'Plainries' van der Meijden. Richard has not only ' volunteered' to be part of the jury ánd to moderate the contest group, but is also generous enough to sponsor this contest! The very first sponsor and actually already on board when the contest was just a weird idea!

For the winning entries, he donates 4 of his Plainries kits! However, which kits exactly will remain a secret for now... Curious to see his work? Look at www.plainries.com
