Racing thoughts, palpitations, shakiness - those are all physiological responses of going into fight-or-flight mode (like when our ancestors needed more energy and blood flow to their muscles to run away from lions) ๐โโ๏ธ
That same pathway also activates during emotional stressors.
These symptoms don't sound ideal. But on the flip side, this reaction made you more alert and resilient! ๐ช
But these anxiety/stress symptoms could be activated at seemingly random times.
Why is that?
This is how your brain react to stressors:
1๏ธโฃ Stimulus is sent to your brain.
2๏ธโฃ Your brain deciphers whether that stimulus is a threat. If perceived as a threat, your brain activates the fight-or-flight response and your nervous and endocrine systems enact their subsequent jobs.
3๏ธโฃ Your body stays in that state until the threat is gone.
Your body may now be reacting in 1 of these ways:
๐Your body brilliantly learned something about your surroundings during that stressful time (like a particular sensory stimulus/lighting/location) and wired you to react quickly if that trigger came up again (to get you out of that situation asap).
๐ Your nervous system falsely categorizes a stimulus as a threat
๐ Your body still thinks it's in threat-mode and is now burnt out
๐ Another condition elsewhere in your body is actually exerting control over how your nervous system responds (Ex. hormones, blood sugar, toxins, diet, etc).
Stress/anxiety feels absolutely horrible.
But recognizing that it was your body's response of self-love is another mindset to consider.
Now, how do we rewire ourselves back to stability? That really depends.
Your individual biology, lifestyle, past experiences, plus many more factors created your unique response.
Well, no 2 people are alike and thus should not get a one-size-fits-all cure.
Only when discovering your unique root cause can healing effectively happen ๐ธ
