Hello everybody, we are back to continue our fundraising efforts this year! We will be working with Free Food For All to raise funds to provide packed meals to the disadvantaged. During this tough period, a necessity such as food would come by hardly for some and personally we feel this should not be the case. Do support our cause by donating at
https://give.asia/campaign/raising-funds-to-deliver-meals-to-the-less-fortunate-2804 #/

We realize that as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many have been left feeling the disastrous economic impacts and certainly, the less fortunate would feel the pinch a lot more strongly than others. From low-income families to the homeless, these groups of people would be affected disproportionately more so than the average Singaporean. Last year, thanks to your support, we fundraised to donate meals to the underprivileged families living in single room HDBs in the Jalan Besar area. This year, we would like to continue a similar initiative as effects of the pandemic wear on.

We will be restarting our fundraising efforts the upcoming week, including our very own bake sale, so keep a lookout for our upcoming posts. Do support our Instagram page as well !

Hey everyone, we are delighted to have gone down to the rental flats in the Jalan Besar area on 29 Aug to distribute frozen meals to those who need it the most.

The $10 000 that you have kindly donated has gone into providing over 2000 meals and we thank you for making this campaign a resounding success.

We'd also like to thank those who volunteered to come down on the day itself to help and Central CDC for coordinating the distribution on the ground.

While we have finished with this campaign, we look forward to continuing this project by raising awareness for those who need it. Let's all remember to keep the spirit of altruism alive!

This marks the end of our fundraiser and we have raised a whopping $10,808!! Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the Nasi Bungkus Initiative, followed us, shared our posts and offered their help to volunteer. We have received so much more support and outreach than we could have ever imagined when we began this project a month ago.

Thanks to all of your help, we have raised enough funds to provide more than 2000 meals to individuals coming from vulnerable and low income families living in the Kampong Glam area.

The deliveries of the meals will be happening on the 29th of August, so stay tuned for an update post on the drop!

Although this is the end of our fundraising campaign in collaboration with Chef in Box, the Nasi Bungkus Initiative does not end here. We will continue spreading awareness on different issues faced by Singaporeans and may possibly have more fundraisers in the future. Until then, letā€™s keep giving back and helping those in need!

One of the challenges vulnerable families may face is domestic abuse. Abuse comes in many forms and victims are often isolated and helpless during the safe distancing measures during COVID. Spreading awareness encourages more people to recognise and report abuse for their friends and family.

So far we have raised 9000 due to everyone's collective efforts in spreading awareness and supporting our 2 bake sales!

We believe our initiative can achieve much more to help vulnerable families in Singapore during COVID!

During this pandemic many have experienced job losses or have a lack of confidence in the stability of their jobs.

Job insecurities can be detrimental to a personā€™s mental and physical well-being. It can also be hard to adapt to new measures like working from home.

Please seek help and support if you or someone you know is facing mental distress.

Impacts of COVID-19 tend to be more acutely felt by the lower-income families. Many tend to work in the service sector or take daily-wage jobs that were heavily hit by this recession and social distancing measures. Existing economic woes like financial debts can also be exacerbated.

Familial factors like caring for dependents with chronic diseases, special needs and disabilities can further complicate issues as timely medical and social support may not be received.

We greatly urge everyone to lend a helping hand to charities and non-profit organisations wherever possible so that everyone can overcome this pandemic together!

The support we have received over the past week has been incredible, and weā€™d like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts.

Currently, as part of Chef-In-Box's own fundraising campaign, they have raised enough to provide the designated amount of meals stated to the beneficiaries we have mentioned before. What this means for us & for your donations is that funds raised through our initiative will now be used to provide meals to a new group of people.

This could fall under the same group of beneficiaries we were targeting (eg the homeless and low income families), or a new group of beneficiaries altogether (eg youths at risk or halfway homes).

If you know of any contacts that need help and would like to collaborate with us, just drop us a dm.

If you have any questions, fill in the enquirers form https://tinyurl.com/nasibungkusenquiries

In the meantime, let's all keep the spirit of altruism alive!

Walk through the back alleys and you might spot an elderly ā€˜auntyā€™ or ā€˜uncleā€™ pushing a trolley with stacks of cardboard almost as tall as them. Cardboard-collecting is laborious and dangerous, yet these hardworking aunties and uncles continue putting their lives at risk.

The Nasi Bungkus Initiative aims to raise funds to distribute meals to cardboard collectors in Singapore. Link in bio to donate! Even a small amount will go a long way. šŸ§”

Given Singaporeā€™s level of development and wealth, it is a commonly held view that poverty does not exist in Singapore, or that domestic poverty is not comparable to the absolute poverty that is present globally. Unfortunately, due to no official poverty line and no minimum wage laws, there is no shared view on the way poverty is defined and measured, even though it is an important problem in Singapore. All our meals will be going to low income individuals, so please donate to make a difference.

While many of us may be unaware of the issue of homelessness in Singapore, it is a very real problem faced by many Singaporeans today. Swipe to understand more about this topic and find out how you can help! 1000 of the meals we raise funds for will be going to the homeless, so keep a lookout for the donation link we will be posting in our story soonšŸ˜ŠThis is the first of our infographic series, with more to come over the next week.

Behind the meaning of our name!

The reason why we chose this name for our project stems from the idea that, while food is a necessity, there are families and people who find it generally difficult to afford meals. In light of the economic impacts due to COVID, this has been made worse and we hope that through our efforts weā€™d be able to make a difference by providing such packed meals to families, the homeless & cardboard collectors.
