Bell peppers are totally keto-friendly, but we’ll bet you didn’t know this…

Different coloured peppers actually have different amounts of carbs in!

Whilst green peppers have just 4.8 grams of net carbs, yellow ones have more than double with 10.1 grams.

If you’re following a low-carb lifestyle, you’re still OK to have yellow peppers in your meals, but if you’re following a strict keto plan, keep your eyes peeled for green peppers the next time you’re in the veggie aisle 👀

For those with type two diabetes, a keto lifestyle can be a helpful way to maintain a healthy weight and support blood sugar levels.

If you have diabetes and are considering trying keto to manage your glucose levels, get approval from your doctor first.

Once the doc has given you the go-ahead, here are some helpful tips for your journey:

👉 Get into the habit of meal planning

To follow a ketogenic diet, make sure you’re eating low-carb vegetables, eggs, meats, healthy fat sources, fish, and berries.

👉 Remember, it takes time

Initially, you’ll lose water weight, but when this tapers off (and before you achieve ketosis), you might feel demotivated. Just remind yourself that it’s not an overnight process, and you CAN get there!

👉 You don’t necessarily need to add more fat

As you know, keto is a “high fat” diet. But the goal is to use your body fat as an energy source - not the fat on your plate. So, if your dinner is eggs, avocado and bacon, you don’t need to add a k**b of butter to your dinner to make it ‘more keto.’

New to keto? Didn’t realise that keto and low carb diets had different rules?

Here’s a quick rundown…

👉 KETO

This is what we would describe as true fat burning. To follow a keto diet, you must consume below 20 grams net carbs a day (or around 5-10% of your calorie allowance).

Your protein intake must be moderate (around 20%) and your fat intake must be dramatically increased (around 70%).

👉 LOW CARB

A low carb diet is more lenient than a keto one, with less than 50 grams of net carbs allowed per day (10-15% of your calorie allowance).

Your protein intake is also slightly higher (around 30%), with your fat intake being slightly lower (around 60%).
