We use our eyes to see this world, so do most of the animals! But here is the question: Do animals like dogs, cats, snakes, birds, etc. see what we see? When a cat walks by, I’m sure every animal has their own way to “see” the cat. But what might the cat look like in their eyes? We are going to discover the secret of the eyes today through the wonderful book - "They All Saw a Cat" by Brendan Wenzel!😍 Enjoy the bilingual storytime brought to you by Polydott and Los Gatos Library!

Asian Kids Pride — Polydott 09/10/2021

Generation after generation of Chinese American kids have been frustrated by the stereotypes about their own heritage as they struggle with self-identity. Many of them eventually become alienated from their own cultures and remain that way.

Are Chinese and Chinese American cultures always just about Kungfu, Tai-chi, Dragon & Lion Dance, Calligraphy, Panda, and Americanized Chinese food? Is Chinese and Chinese American culture really that boring and old-school? How can we motivate our kids to actively be interested in Chinese culture?

In America, so many important pieces of Chinese American stories remain untold, yet they shape our self-identity and who we become as Chinese.

To seek for the answer as well as the solution, the Asian Kids Pride (AKP) - Chinese Heritage was born. UN-STEREROTYPICAL, DIVERSE and DYNAMIC, Created and produced by a all-star team of professionals from Silicon Valley leading schools and global award-winning studios, this course will bring you absolutely new experience about what Chinese culture is! It's the first and the only class aiming to help children of Chinese heritage enrich their appreciation of Chinese culture, embrace their cultural identities, and bridge the gap between the different cultures that they grew up with. At the same time, it's also for anyone who wants to see different aspects of Chinese culture and Chinese American life with a open mind.

Different from other virtual class, AKP provides a unique mode combining both on-demand video lessons as the input and Zoom live sessions as the output. By delving into the story of a Chinese American role model, you'll not only gain knowledge about Chinese culture and history, STEAM-related content, SEL activities, parent education, and other multimedia resources with age-differentiated activity guides are also included in this wonderful package.

《The Armor》(铠甲)Behind the Scene 幕后花絮#polydott #AKP 06/08/2021

About three months ago, we released a short film “The Armor” calling for during the AAPI Heritage Month with support from Asia Society and Chinosity. Since its release, it has resonated with many families, especially families of Chinese heritage. Our team was also interviewed by news media such as Yahoo News, Phoenix CNE Channel, and ChineseInLA. The beautifully-made touching story was meant to raise people’s cultural awareness and cherish the diversity of Asian culture. It brought tears to people’s eyes. Though the AAPI Heritage Month of this year has passed, our stories should continue to be told and shared. So now, let’s take a peek of how “The Armor” was made during the pandemic and once again shout out the slogan: My Culture, My Armor! A great round of applause to all the casts, the crew, and everyone who have been courageous and supportive. We will continue telling the stories of Asians.

This week, we are going to talk about C.S Wu’s most iconic outfit as a Chinese lady - Qipao. Qipao may sound more like ceremonial attire nowadays, but back to the era during which C.S Wu lived, Qipaos were the most prevailing fashion in China. Through historical pictures, we will discover C.S Wu’s love for Qipao and how C.S Wu maintained her identity as a Chinese through wearing Qipao for nearly every occasion. Did you know that the English word for Qipao, Cheongsam, has some other meanings in Chinese? You’ll know the answer at the end of the video!

Don’t forget to complete “The Queen’s Mission” while watching those super intriguing videos! We don’t have a new mission for you this week, which means there’s plenty of time for you to finish your previous missions “required” by the “Queen of Physics”! Start your mission now if you haven’t yet!

After completing each mission and successfully turning it in, you will be awarded with a certain number of Polydott AKP coins, which will become your “tickets” to enter the celebration event after you finish this whole unit.

In response to the recent hate for Asian crimes, we filmed our first short film reacting to from the perspective of Asian children. Children's eyes can see the warmth of this world, and we should treat those curious eyes with love, not hatred. We coded the cultural identity in this short film with a loving attitude. We hope that every family and parent overseas can resonate and find their strength from it. Great love and thanks to the many organizations and celebrities who have supported our production.

Lunar Year Special :Physical distance is never a problem for making new friends - 华裔孩子温暖的“云上新年”活动全记录 14/02/2021

Physical distance is never a problem for making new friends. Nine kids whose families are all located in different cities in the US get to know each other through food-making, even though they've never met before. It doesn't matter if one can't touch or eat the food. Video tutorials and handwritten recipes can be sent with one click. Although far apart, a creative dish designed and made specifically for the new friends instantly closes the distance between each other, allowing happiness and warmth to pass through the screen.

What’s your plan for the Chinese New Year? This Lunar New Year of Ox would surely be celebrated differently with no offline family-gatherings, no public lion & dragon dances, no parade nor New Year Fair. Then, how about some creative New Year dishes designed and cooked by kids and some gifts from secret friends?

In the 1st episode of Polydott Kids - Chinese New Year Special, we invited Chinese American kids from 4 different families to share their ideas about Chinese New Year. Aren’t you curious about the kinds of food they will prepare for their haven’t-met-yet new friends? Click the link below and let’s make this year’s celebration as creative and happy as it can possibly be!

Happy New Year! A Chinese animated film - Ne Zha - which was released in 2019 successfully turned the mythological story of NeZha into a global blockbuster. As the 1st episode of 2021, let’s talk about this Chinese deity - NeZha. We will talk about how NeZha becomes the master of his own life in the film Ne Zha next week in Polydott Cinema as well. In Chinese mythology, NeZha is commonly depicted as a child. He was born with supernatural power and always has his hair tied up in two buns. We will retell the most well-known story about how he conquers the Sea and talk about his Hindu Origin and his family tree in the segment of “Did You Know.” Since Nezha receives most of his weapons from his mentor as gifts, the verb “送” (to give someone something as a gift) will be the key word in “Dum Tika Bum.” With the word “送,” you can talk about the gifts you receive last year from Santa and your parents in Chinese!
