Happy Republic Day! 🇮🇹🎊
This year, on June 2nd, Italy celebrates the 76th anniversary of its Republic
🔸After two years of stop due to Covid, finally the traditional parade took place again! 🎊
🔸The tradition wants that in the morning the Italian President holds a ceremony on the Vittoriano (Altar of the Fatherland) by placing a crown of laurel to the unknown soldier, who represents all the Italian soldiers who lost their lives during WWI
🔸That’s when the Frecce Tricolore make their first flight. The acrobatic fleet of military aircrafts fly on top of the Vittoriano right when the president lays the crown of leaves on the altar ❤️
🔸It’s an emotional moment, especially being there in person is quite a sensation
🔸Then the parade of the armed forces starts marching from the Colosseum, along via dei Fori Imperiali and to Piazza Venezia
🔸The parade started with the Italian mayors, followed by doctors and nurses, the heroes of these last two years
🔸Then we had the police, carabinieri, guardia di finanza, firefighters, special forces, paratroopers..
the parade goes on for hours!
🔸To end the show, we had paratroopers flying the Italian glad in the sky, helicopters.. and them, the Frecce Tricolore ✈️🇮🇹
🔸You hear the roar of their engines and there they are, jumping from behind the Colosseum 🤩
The heartbeats go faster and the jaws of the crowds drop to the floor, what an incredible experience each time! 💚🤍❤️
Have you managed to see the Frecce Tricolore? From which point of the city??
🔸Did you know the Pyramid of Rome? Ever wondered what it looks inside? 🤔
🔸It is called the Pyramid of Gaius Cestius and it’s from the 1st century BC!
And we are taking you inside 🤩
🔸The visit inside the pyramid is something very rare and exceptional
🔸Thanks so much to the wonderful project of .roma, to the and to all the other owners which every year make accessible to visitors so many beautiful sites that are usually off-limits
🔸Watch the video and tell us.. what was the most mind blowing detail of this exploration??

The Testaccio neighborhood in Rome is literally an outdoor museum! 🏛
🔸One of the first Ancient Roman harbors was here, as well as a giant warehouse to store the imported goods.
🔸The Romans imported a lot of different goods, and one of them was olive oil
What does all of this have to do with the hill we are walking on in the video?? Let me explain to you.. 👇🏼
🔸The good that the Ancient Romans were importing the most was olive oil.
Olive oil was transported in terracotta amphoras (a sort of urn) ⚱️
🔸These amphoras had a problem: once you fill them with olive oil, they are soaked with it and they become rotten. So they cannot be reused
🔸Now imagine the harbor, it has been running for centuries. Imagine the quantity of amphoras coming into Rome, which had to be thrown away..
🔸The real problem was: where to put those amphoras?? 🤔
🔸As always, the Romans responded to the problem with a very pragmatic solution: they broke those amphoras into equal pieces and stuck them on top of each other!
🔸This was done between the 1st century BC until the 3rd century AD. After 4 centuries, it is estimated that 250 millions of amphoras were stacked!!!
🔸These 250 millions today make the Testaccio hill 😊
🔸The adventures of Testaccio continue, but we’ll keep those for another time 😉
🔸Have you ever been to Testaccio??
PS: the Testaccio hill is only open on specific dates, which you should book. All the dates are at this link:https://sovraintendenzaroma.it/content/modalit%c3%a0-di-accesso-e-prenotazione-ai-monumenti-del-territorio
Happy Birthday Rome 🎂🧡
Who would have thought that on April 21st, 2775 years ago, that from a small huts village.. 🛖
You would become the most memorable of the empires, covering three continents and still influencing the way we live and speak today?? 😮
As Hadrian said, Rome will exists until the last city on earth will exists.. that’s why you are so eternal 🧡

Reggia di Caserta (Royal Palace of Caserta) 🤩
It’s been challenging but we made it 🙌🏽 47000 square meters in a 7 minute video! 😁
Just enough to have you packing your bags and visit this incredible wonder ASAP!! 😜
One of the biggest royal palaces in the world. A grandiose palace and an even more spectacular garden, with over 3 kilometers of water way! 🤯

🔸5 Hidden Gems nearby the Trevi Fountain in Rome:
1️⃣ Vicus Caprarius.
This is a mind blowing journey to the underground layer of Rome! We are few steps away to the Trevi fountain and this is where all of the water of the most famous fountain of Rome comes from!
In fact, this is where the water tank of the Aqua Virgo is, one of the most ancient Roman Aqueducts. This aqueduct was built by Agrippa (right-hand man of Augustus) in 19BC!
2️⃣ Ancient Virgo Aqueduct ruins in via del Nazareno.
The Aqua Virgo aqueduct again! 💦 This aqueduct is so important, because is the only aqueduct (out of the 11 from Ancient Rome), which has been working uninterruptedly until today!! Mind-blowing
3️⃣The arched entryway designed by Borromini.
This is a bit more tricky to explore, in fact it is located inside Palazzo Carpegna. Since the 1500s hosted the Accademia di San Luca, an academy of artists where some of the greatest artists of Rome have studied. This archway was made by Borromini and it is so beautiful that it doesn’t look real!
4️⃣ Ancient aqueduct ruins inside the Rinascente department store.
What happens when you enter the Rinascente department store? After scrolling hundreds of designer handbags, shoes, kitchenware and bikinis you find yourself in front of an ancient Roman wall! That wall has arches, and looks like an ancient Roman aqueduct: the Virgo aqueduct again!
5️⃣ Galleria Sciarra.
This is one of those places you don’t expect to find in a city like Rome. Galleria Sciarra is the inner courtyard of a private building, Palazzo Sciarra. This courtyard follow office hours, so you will find it closed during the weekends. And this makes it an even more hidden gem! 😉
🔸How many of these have you explored already?? 😉
How many of these have you ticked off your bucket list? 😉
Save this post for later! 😉
🔸7 Hidden Gems nearby Piazza Venezia in Rome:
1️⃣ Galleria Colonna.
It is located inside Palazzo Colonna, a palace belonging to the Colonna family since the Middle Ages and still inhabited by them today! Unmissable!
2️⃣The secret garden in Palazzo Venezia.
If you have been to Rome already, you have probably walked past it without noticing it.
This secret garden is located in an inner courtyard inside Palazzo Venezia. A perfect place to have a break between visits and tours in the city 😉
3️⃣The insult of Ara Coeli.
This is the insula (Latin word for ancient Roman apartment building) of Ara Coeli. A six-storey high building that looked not so different from our modern condominiums today!
4️⃣ Chiesa del Gesù.
The Church of the Gesù (Chiesa del Gesù, in Italian) is the mother church of the Jesuit order, whose founder was Ignazio di Loyola. Something beautiful happens every day at 5:30PM in Rome
5️⃣ Panoramic view from the stairs of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli.
While on the Capitoline hill (Campidoglio), enter the church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli. Enjoy the views inside, and then walk out towards the main facade. From up here you can get one of the most beautiful views of Rome (and escape the crowds).
6️⃣ Piazzale Caffarelli.
Do you like those peaceful and hidden corners in the middle of Rome’s hectic life? This is another one. Climb up the stairs of the Capitoline hill, have a look at the beautiful square designed by Michelangelo, but then make a right. You will end up in Piazzale Caffarelli, a beautiful terrace with views over the skyline of Rome. Best enjoyed during sunsets 😉
7️⃣ Crypta Balbi.
The Crypta Balbi is where all the layers of the Roman history come together in one single place! What I like to call a “lasagna of history”.
🔸This is what you can explore the area of Piazza Venezia.

🔸The district of Testaccio in Rome is quite an off-the-beaten path area of the city and it still preserves a lot of the truly Roman vibes.
🔸Moreover, Testaccio is the very place where some of the most traditional Roman dishes were born, such as the Coda alla Vaccinara! (Watch me trying this for the first time EVER in this video! 🙈)
