Have you ever had a "bathroom on the right" moment? π½
Well, we all know miscommunication can lead to some serious misunderstandings. There's a classic misheard lyric from Creedence Clearwater Revival where "there's a bad moon on the rise" can comically be misheard as "there's a bathroom on the right." Now that takes the song in a whole new direction!
But clarity isn't just about avoiding funny mix-upsβ CLARITY is critical for organizational success. As a leader, it's on YOU to make sure your team knows where you're headed and how their role fits into the mission.
Here's 5 things you can do to create CLARITY for you team.
1. Vision Statement: A well crafted vision statement is easy to memorize and captures the purpose of the organization.
2. Job Descriptions: Everyone should have a clearly defined job description that outlines all their key responsibilities. Review and update these at least annually.
3. Quarterly Priorities: You will make more progress if you reset priorities every 90 days. 90 Days is the optimal time for a team to focus on a set of key objectives.
4. Individual KPI's: Everyone should track at least one Key Performance Indicator that is tied to their responsibilities. Not everything can be measured neatly, but everyone should be measuring something. Give your people a target to hit.
5. End Meetings with Clear Agreements: We've all been there- a meeting ends and everyone disperses without any clear sense of direction. Don't do this! Use the last 5 minutes of any meeting to clarify exactly who's doing what and when those tasks are due. Meetings should end with clarity.
CLARITY MATTERS.
πͺ Many business owners feel like they're performing an elaborate juggling act as the most important contributor within their company. It's a commendable skill, but there comes a point where this approach won't take you further.
Individual achievers thrive on skills, hustle, and grit. But the best leaders win with strategies, systems, and teams. Growth Hub was started to help business owners lead with intention and vision. If your business is too reliant on you, there's a chance you could eventually crash and burn. The key is learning to delegate and implementing systems so that performance doesn't suffer even when you're not the primary contributor.
If you are looking for help in these areas, let's connect. https://calendly.com/daniel_growthhub/growth-accelerator-program-30-min-clone
We are helping companies become less owner dependent and more systems dependent. This shift gives you the freedom and flexibility you want, and sets the foundation for your company to grow and profit even more.
π Henry Ford sold his first car in 1903. But his story began much earlier, and it was sparked by curiosity.
Ford was born in 1863.
At age 12 he was dabbling in a small engine shop.
At age 15 he constructed his first steam engine.
He became a machinist's apprentice as a teenager.
He later spent 8 years as an engineer at Thomas Edison's company.
In 1893 he constructed his first internal combustion engine.
He built his first automobile in 1896.
His first company, the Detroit Automobile Company, went bankrupt after 18 months.
He left his next venture after just a few months.
THEN, Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903. That's nearly 30 YEARS after he began learning mechanics as a child.
Henry Ford BECAME great through curiosity, learning, effort, mentors, tinkering, failures, and persistence. There's remarkable power in persistent curiosity.
Questions to keep you growing...
What are you curious about?
Who are you learning from?
What are you reading?
What risks are you taking?
Ford Motor Company is now worth over $52b.
Keep learning. Keep building. Keep growing.
π If you've ever sold a home, you know this routine... You suddenly notice things you've overlooked for months. You finally get motivated to finish that project. You trim the hedges. Paint the kids room. Fix that creaky door. In order to get the best offer, you know you've got to improve some things. Then you look around and think "This is nice! I should have done these things a long time ago!" Good point.
π Whether you have any intention to sell or not, why not give your business the same treatment? As we step into Q2, take a moment to consider: if you were ever to sell your business, what areas do you know would need a little TLC? Whether it's streamlining processes, implementing new systems, or strengthening your team, go ahead and tackle these areas now. Make these upgrades your Q2 priorities, and enjoy the benefits of an improved and more efficient business!
Do you ever feel beat up by business ownership?

βοΈ Have you ever noticed how purposeful your day feels when you're heading to the airport for a trip? Why is this? It's because you've got clarity on 3 important things: the destination, the arrival time, and your luggage!
There's a leadership lesson here. Everyone moves with purpose when they have clarity in these 3 areas. If you lead others, it's on YOU to make sure they know where they're headed (clear goals), when they'll arrive (due dates), and what they're bringing to the table (expectations). To help others thrive, you must create this clarity. How? Have an intentional conversation AT LEAST quarterly (along with regular check-ins) to clarify their personal goals and your expectations of them.
You'd never get on a plane without clarity. Don't expect your team to stay on board without it either.
Looking for a boost of motivation?
We love this quote from Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi. I think he nails it here. In a culture that constantly chases the NEXT THING, there's value in embracing excellence in YOUR THING. It's not about what you do; it's about how you do it.
Let's strive for excellence in every endeavor.
π© Happy President's Day! I love this quote from Abraham Lincoln: "Whatever you are, be a good one." Yes, sometimes growth takes us to new places, but oftentimes excellence is found in maximizing our current opportunities. Let's embody craftmanship in our roles, wherever we find ourselves, and strive to make a positive impact right where we are. π±
You've probably seen a list of company values or a mission statement that is littered with nonsense and corporate jargon. We certainly have. Company values that are too stuffy just collect dust. But values that are simple and memorable become pacesetters for a strong company culture.
Here's how to make your company values alive and active...
π 1. Make them Repeatable: Value statements should be simple and memorable. For best results, keep them short and reuse them often. Integrate them into daily conversations, meetings, and internal communications. The more they're repeated, the more impact they will have.
π 2. Relive the Stories: Stories have a powerful way of connecting with people. Your business isn't just about numbers and results. Your company also consists of stories. Collect and relive the stories that represent your values.
π 3. Reward Accordingly: One of the best ways to reinforce your values is to reward those who demonstrate them. Tangible rewards, or even public acknowledgment, can go a long way in reinforcing those positive behaviors.
Yes, 92% of New Year's resolutions fail. But here's the twist: it's not really a discipline problem; it's a structure problem. A year is too long. We need opportunities to learn, to fail softly, and to make adjustments. A New Year's resolution is an all-or-nothing attempt at change. Maybe that works for a few of us (I'm looking at you 8%'ers), but most of us will benefit from shorter-term goals.
Try this instead... (for your business or personally).
1. Throw away your New Year's resolution (statistically you probably weren't going to make it anywayπ)
2. Set a 90-day goal.
3. Commit to 3 weekly actions that will contribute to the 90-day goal.
4. Evaluate progress and make adjustments every 7 days.
The beauty is that even if you "fail," it's only 7 days at a time. For a 90-day goal, you've got 13 weeks to make progress. And, unlike a New Year's resolution, you've got 4 chances a year to reset your "big" goal.
The magic lies in pulsing quicker, as Verne Harnish says, "those who pulse faster, grow faster." π
So ditch the New Year's resolutions. Instead, set a single 90-day goal, commit to three weekly actions, then evaluate and adjust weekly. π
There's no failing, just learning and adjusting. Make 2024 a year of continual growth, one 90-day and 7-day pulse at a time.
Have you felt it??? Something about the New Year brings this fresh motivation to get better. Eat healthier. Exercise more. Wake up earlier. Break those bad habits and develop some better ones. πββοΈ
In our businesses, we think about growth. More sales, bigger revenue, more profit, larger footprint. π
These are great ambitions. But remember, not everything that grows is healthy. If you want your business to have lasting and sustainable impact, evaluate health in addition to growth. π±
Health-focused questions:
1. Are you comfortable saying no to opportunities that don't line up with your long-term vision?
2. Do you have regular rhythms for evaluation, goal setting, and performance review?
3. Is your team energized and aligned towards a common mission?
4. Is your team free of any lingering tension or an undercurrent of distrust?
5. Do you have enough cash on hand to cover at least 3 months of expenses?
So yes, go after growth in 2024, but don't neglect the health of your company. After all, not everything that grows is healthy. Focus on health first.

In the pursuit of growth, action speaks volumes. Yes, planning and analysis have their place, but real progress comes from taking action. It's in the doing that transformation happens. π±
βοΈ Planning can help you determine the right direction, but action fuels momentum and propels you forward.
πWhat actions would create change in your world? Successful journeys start with a step, not just a plan, so go ahead and take that step!
Do you have a clear and compelling vision for your business? If not, take a moment to consider "where are we headed?"
As a business owner, it's your responsibility to paint a picture of the future, chart the course, and rally the team. There's no substitute for an inspiring vision. β
It will motivate your team, align efforts, and ensure the right priorities are in place. π
πRemember playing neighborhood football? It usually involved a simple plan like "just go deep," followed by improvisation and chaos. That made for some great memories, but it's no way to run a business. Your business needs an organized plan. But even with a solid plan, we all know it's hard to stick with it. Oftentimes, we end up in the middle of the chaos, improvising the best we can. Executing on a plan is the real challenge.
πAt Growth Hub, we help business leaders with both organization and ex*****on. We encourage businesses develop a rhythm of setting 90-day goals, with clarity on who's responsible for what. Then we implement a weekly accountability rhythm to ensure that progress is being tracked, success is celebrated, and corrections are made.
9οΈβ£0οΈβ£ When a company utilizes this 90-day approach, they experience the right balance between organizing and executing. They start to achieve their goals more efficiently and effectively. π In 1913, Henry Ford's assembly line revolutionized car production, reducing the time to make a car from over 12 hours to just 93 minutes.
The lesson? Systems matter! Just like in the automotive industry, businesses thrive when they invest in standard operating procedures. It's time to systematize your business for efficiency and growth. π
π Introducing our Growth Accelerator Program. We'll guide you through the process of developing systems and structures to take control of your business and drive it towards greater success. Our business consulting produces bottom line results. We don't just advise you, we go to work for you, ensuring that the systems become a reality in your business. Curious to learn more? π In business, just like in a game, you should have natural stopping points. Imagine playing a football game without a clock. Way harder to stay focused, right? Suspense and enthusiasm build because of the scoreboard and clock. When the clock hits zero, you know if you won or lost. Then you can evaluate your efforts and make adjustments for next time.
π°The problem is many businesses operate without a scoreboard or a clock, with weeks and months blurring together. But teams need to keep score and they need a deadline. We all need the evaluative experience that happens after the clock goes to zero.
π― So, how do you do this with your team? Announce a goal with a specific target date- "we will add 6 clients by Jan 1st." Great! Now you're keeping score and the clock is ticking. Talk about this goal every week and update your team along the way. When Jan 1st comes, stop the clock. βοΈ Whether the result was good or bad, evaluate what went well and what could've been better. Make your adjustments and then decide on your next game. Your team will be more motivated and more apt to reach your goals if you maintain this rhythm.
πFall is a great reminder that one thing is certain in life and business: CHANGE.
The most successful companies are the ones that anticipate where the market is heading, embrace change, and adapt effectively. They thrive by being nimble and forward-thinking.
Change isn't a threat; it's an opportunity. It's a chance to innovate and grow. So as you start to plan for 2024, consider these questions. β
What changes do you see in the marketplace?
What obstacles or opportunities do you need to adapt to?
What organizational deficiencies do you need to address?
Here's to embracing change and becoming an even stronger business in 2024. πͺ
