More 278 stuff. Share guys we need more followers. Thanks.
More stuff. Links, lead truck, tender trucks.
Views few will ever see. Inside cab of #278 and forward view for engineer.
Lead truck boxes (yes with Timken bearings) and eccentric straps along with one with the blade attached. Still finishing the straps.
Tender truck bearings, lead truck bearings and boring cylinder liners.
Model A's and a steam engine. That is as good as it gets.
The early engines in many cases had polished cylinder head covers. Just doing that now. I know why they stopped doing it. Very time consuming for the return.
Our fearless, intrepid and at times dysfunctional senior staff engineer has passed the 12th joint review of his time on earth for the renewal of his ASME Code Stamp for the construction of power boilers. It expires when he is 79 and while he no longer even buys green bananas lets hope he last as long as the stamp. There is no refund for the 20K it costs.
Got the heads mounted, crosshead guide bars on along with the cylinder head covers. Onto the jacketing and crossheads after our joint boiler review Thursday.
A bit of a warning to all involved in volunteer work. If you are considered a expert in your field and there is a claim you will be sued personally and generally you will have no protection from the suit by the non-profits insurance. They are very recalcitrant to provide adequate insurance for themselves let along the volunteers.
If you just paint or whack weeds you are fine but if you provide engineering advice or critical work you could very well be in a great deal of trouble. Its very easy to go from volunteer to defendant in a heartbeat. Just food for thought everyone.
Boring the cylinders for the liners for the American. This machine is absolutely Osha approved. One does not want to get any of their bits wound up in this puppy. Circa 1920.
You never get as much done as you would like. Rod bearings are all bored out and fit nicely. For some reason the old ones were as much as 1/8" plus undersize and were separated at the parting joint so they would fit. They have since been bored properly but its going to take a lot of shims to get things right. We got the front tube sheet braces tacked in and honestly that is enough to wear out our old bodies. In one picture you can see Paul hiding in the corner. For some reason he did not like the weld sparks. Go figure.
We had Jimmy, Paul, Tim and Gary to help this weekend. Our old fat and tired welder showed up to help with the braces.
We are taking the re-worked rods over Friday night for Como and working on the front tube sheet braces. Will post pictures after the Saturday work.
Thank you for visiting our site. Its just starting so click like and please follow us. We promise it will be a fun ride.
Last weekends work on the #4 in Como. Finished the perimeter weld on the front tube sheet. Trammed the #3 set to match #1 and #2. Ready to start putting rods on. Next work day is the 20th. Follow the progress here.
