Okay to Say. About Us. Talk openly about mental illness.

06/07/2020

July is Awareness Month and we at understand that conditions do not discriminate based on race, gender, color, or identity. However, mental health can be affected by limited access to quality care, culturally inadequate and inadept resources, and more. The simple fact is mental health within minority demographics need to transcend stereotypes for this month (and beyond this month).

As the Mental Health Hub is currently an all-woman operation with all of us coming from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and nationalities – we truly see the importance and need of emphasizing minority health not only this month but every single day. For this reason, we are dedicated to continually researching, educating, and advocating to provide the most up to date resources for people dealing with all types of mental health needs.

Our History

In 2019, longtime friends, Ysa and Ella, began discussing the convoluted nature of our country’s mental health treatment systems. Both women had had negative experiences in locating and sustaining the help they needed for their mental health.

It became clear that this was a common issue to anyone seeking this kind of help. Navigating insurance plans, understanding basic terminologies, and locating highly rated care was often a scattered and opaque process.

Recognizing these difficulties as universal, Ysa and Ella set out to build an organization that could serve as a one-stop-shop for mental health treatment resources and education.

They envisioned a website that connected people with the plethora of under-used resources out there, while also identifying blind spots of missing aid.
