We kicked off our first Q&A session with coach Doug from Doral Academy. Which is also the owner of Ballhawks, a 7on7 travel team located right here in Miami. Listen in as we answer these questions: 1. Why do you think some young players want to play Varsity and not JV in HS?
2. Why are players jumping around from HS to HS?
3. Why is training properly for an athlete so important?
4. Should HS coaches dictate what an athlete should do during the off season?
5. What can you tell us about the Ball Hawks organization?

According to the NCAA, mental health issues remain top of mind for student-athletes.
Data shows mental exhaustion, anxiety and depression havenโt changed much in the last two years, and while stress isnโt unique to athletes, the pressure to perform can be a heavy burden to carry.
โThe pressures are from parents. The pressures are from your coaches. The pressures are from the other peers with social media," Dwight Smith, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers champion, said. -ABC Action News
Dr. Kate Hays, a sport psychologist and author of "The Performer's Edge: Mental Skills for the Competitive World," young athletes can deal with pressure by:
1. Reframing pressure as a positive: Instead of seeing pressure as a negative, reframe it as a positive by thinking of it as a challenge that can help you perform at your best.
2. Developing a routine: Develop a pre-performance routine that can help you stay focused and calm before a competition.
3. Focusing on the process: Instead of focusing on the outcome, focus on the process of performing well. This can help you stay in the moment and perform to the best of your ability.
4. Staying positive: Practice positive self-talk to help you stay motivated and focused. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones, such as "I can do this" or "I am prepared for this."
5. Practicing relaxation techniques: Learn relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, or progressive muscle relaxation to help you stay calm and focused.
6. Seeking support: Seek support from coaches, teammates, and family members who can provide encouragement and help you stay motivated.
Here are some tips that college athletes can use to help balance their academic and athletic commitments:
Develop good time management skills: According to the University of Missouri - St. Louis, effective time management is key to balancing academics and athletics, and athletes can use tools such as calendars, planners, and to-do lists to keep track of their schedule and prioritize tasks.
Communicate with professors and coaches: U.S. News & World Report suggests that athletes should communicate with their professors and coaches to let them know about their athletic schedule and ask for support if needed. This can include getting notes from missed classes or arranging for makeup exams.
Take advantage of academic support services: The NCAA recommends that athletes take advantage of academic support services, such as tutoring and study halls, specifically for student-athletes, to help them stay on track with their coursework.
Stay organized: According to the University of Utah, athletes should keep their study space organized and free from distractions, which can help them focus on their work and maximize their productivity.
Prioritize self-care: The University of Michigan suggests that athletes should prioritize self-care to maintain their physical and mental well-being while balancing academics and athletics. This can include getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and engaging in stress-reducing activities such as meditation or yoga.
