Fevers in infants PART 3 : causes, signs and remedies 3 series)

Monitor the baby’s activity level and overall comfort: Babies who seem happy, alert, and comfortable may not need treatment.
Ensure the baby remains well hydrated: Fever increases the risk of dehydration, so parents, caregivers, and nurses should offer milk or formula on demand. Older babies should also drink plenty of water. In some cases, a healthcare professional may recommend using an electrolyte drink to help with dehydration.
Monitor the baby for signs of dehydration: This can include not urinating as often as usual, sunken eyes, chapped lips, or very dry or pasty-looking skin.
Avoid waking a sleeping baby to administer anti-fever medication: Unless a doctor instructs to do this.
Administer anti-fever medication under a doctor’s supervision: People can give this medication if the infant is in pain or uncomfortable from the fever. The baby’s weight determines the dose, so follow the label instructions carefully. Call a doctor before giving new medication to a baby, especially a sick one.
Help limit the spread of infections: Do not send a sick baby to daycare or take them to places where babies or other vulnerable people may be, as this can spread infections.

Common causes of fevers in babies include:

Are you a first time mum or you know one?
Here are 6 basic tips you may want to look into.

1. Join a community of pregnant women: A community offers opportunities for you as a new mothers because sometimes you may feel alone & isolated and connecting with like-minded moms experiencing the same changes in their bodies and lives helps a great way. Also a community helps new mothers socialize and talk to someone they can trust-vent off and find solace.

2. Drink plenty of water: For the amniotic fluid to form and to build new tissue you need to take in lots of water. You also need water to carry nutrients round your body system and also to enhance digestion. Water also helps to reduce the risk of urinary infections.

3. Avoid caffeine at all cost: Caffeine increases your blood pressure and heart rate, which is not good during pregnancy. Caffeine also increases the frequency of urination. This causes a reduction in your body fluid levels and can lead to dehydration.

4. Limit salt intake: Salt affects the kidneys which causes the body to retain water and this extra water results in greater blood volume, which can cause the blood pressure to rise.

5. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits: Fruits and vegetables are filled with lots of nutrients so you need to add a variety of them to your diet, you'll likely get most of the vitamins, minerals, and fiber that you and your baby need eating fruits and vegetables also it helps prevent constipation, which is a very common symptom during pregnancy.

6. Use your supplements: When you're pregnant, you need more of some nutrients, including protein, folate, iodine, iron and some vitamins. Vitamin B12 and vitamin D are also particularly important because they support the development of the baby's nervous system and skeleton.

A fetal echocardiography is a specialized test similar to an ultrasound scan. It allows the doctor to see better the structure and the function of your unborn child's heart.

It is usually recommended by your doctor if previous tests were not conclusive, some abnormalities detected among others. Not all pregnant women are asked or required to do this test.

Fetal echocardiography is best carried out during your second trimester between 18-24weeks gestation. One thing to note about this procedure is that it is a safe procedure with no radiation involved.

Are you a pregnant woman?

Do you have questions about fetal echocardiography? Do not stay silent,

ask your doctor today!

Drinking during pregnancy poses a lot of complications to you and your baby’s health .

This is because when you consume Alcohol, it passes through the placenta of your body and flows directly into the unborn baby. As a Pregnant woman or a woman trying to become pregnant, it is medically advisable that you stay away from alcohol completely until the birth of your baby, as there is no safe amount of alcohol that is medically proven to be safe enough during pregnancy.

Some of the complications that could arise from taking alcohol during pregnancy ranges from premature labor, having a still birth and deformities in the fetal body parts

Alcohol when taken by a pregnant woman continues to stay in the baby’s system for a much longer period than the mother’s body due to the fact that the body structure and composition of the baby is still too fragile to process and break down alcohol .

Remember it’s you and your baby’s health first !
say No ❌to Alcohol during pregnancy !
