When using metal leaf, if is so hard to photograph!
I started this painting a while ago but I wasn't happy with it. I want to do a bigger version as the wings need to be huge! But these ones are tucked into a heart. Angels always with us; enfolding us and protecting us!

Test piece for a commission. I find it valuable to roughly work on form before dedicating to canvas, when following ideas about what people want. It allows for discussion before painting. Of course, it may end up in a folder, never to see the light of day again!

I say it all the time but I need to learn to photograph things better! The last pic was taken under artificial light. This painting is for a client and a bigger version of the one I did as a test for colours. It is less 'blue' in real life.

This is very rough but a tiny test piece for a larger piece for a client (which thankfully they liked). They choose another picture I painted a while ago but they had different colour choices, so this allowed me to check palette colours. Excuse the composition but I am excited to see how the real thing comes out 😁

I'm busy atm with commissions 😍 but I have a friend who liked a painting in my sketch book, so I took some time out to create a version for her birthday on Tuesday. Stormy seas and sky.

Another commission for a different client, including Bible verse Ephesians 3:16. I am loving the colours in this and it is hard to show the gold off properly. I will try and take better pictures in different lighting.

This is why I use mini canvases. I needed to test out a glazing medium and the last picture is before I applied a layer. I am not keen on how it changed the art but at least I can see what works and what doesn't before I start on a bigger painting.

Bible writing into a painting for a client. Silver leaf and a fishy vortex. :16

I have two random pages in my book to go. Need to find an app so I can 'flip' the all the pages quickly and add it up to my website. A journey through my creative thoughts :) I'll get searching. Trying to find a decent 'rigger' brush and practice here with what I have. I clearly need a bit more practice ❤️

Sketchbook isolation musings continued. I have two pages left in this little book. It's very exciting to nearly be at the end of a journey in my head. It has been something of a revelation, on how joyful it has been. I have ordered some more books as I hope to do more, as my artistic journey carries on.

Creativity, Authority and Control 15/05/2020

My latest blog piece looks at the current attitude of fear and aggression when someone offers a different point of view. I am keen to demonstrate how this has an impact on creativity and forward thinking within society. I also address the role of authority and communicate my inner feelings about the subject.

Isolation sketch book musings
Definitely feeling different about colour and drawn towards orange and burnt sienna, which are not my go to colours. Probably craving the feel of earth 😁

Sketchbook musings
Working on ideas and colours for a bigger piece. I am digging the orange and green tones together. Looks like I might be able to move away from my beloved blues!

Sketchbook isolation musings. Firstly, this represents how I feel at the moment ... Going around in circles. Secondly, I put fixative on it, as I used pastels and I managed to lose definition, colour and softness. Again, perfectly sums up being locked up for 50 days!! 😂😂

Isolation sketchbook ramblings. Lessons after conversation with my child. Remember (as Picasso said) to paint like you did when you were little. Colour, paint, shapes. No rhyme. No reason. Other than joy. Spontaneous outbursts.

I can't show you the writing, as it is a secret!! A few bits of rough paintings/sketches for a charity about to start up and kicking around ideas with them before I draw it up properly.

This week has been full of surprises. For anyone in the creative world, this time of isolation is a worry. I have furniture projects shelved until people can come and collect but on the flip side, I offered free artwork and it has resulted in three commissioned pieces. One which is totally different to my usual style of work but coming along nicely. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has put me in their thoughts and prayers. Your positivity has clearly helped ❤️

In the meantime, relying heavily on my swatches, to help me decide on palettes.

Work in progress. But it feels good to be painting on canvas again. My head has been in a weird space since we have been locked down. Anyway. As I keep talking about in my blogs. Sometimes you just have to 'do', to move onto better things.

Isolation - Not Always An Artist's Dream 03/04/2020

New blog post, less art orientated and more about my feelings during this time spent indoors. I do mention an art give away and will be offering some mini paintings for free over the next couple of weeks. Details to follow later.

Isolation - Not Always An Artist's Dream Isolation and the vulnerable

Sketchbook musings ... Again. Always finding castles in my subconscious. I clearly read too many fantasy books. Maybe in this period of isolation, I should do a daily painting but I'll forget one day and use the evidence, to tell myself I failed! So, as and when. I hope everyone is feeling ok?

Sorry about the poor artificial lighting.

I am guessing my sketchbook is going to get a bit of a hammering. Busted out my watercolours and posca pens. Feeling micro in this current macro world.

Sketchbook musings whilst considering the impact of the coronavirus. My heart goes out to those people who have lost loved ones and are experiencing difficulty getting treatment. My thoughts are also with those who are isolated at the moment. For creative types, like myself; we are more resilient to isolation but for some, it can be painful to lose human contact. The long term mental impact to people's lives, through loss of income and the faltering of plans and dreams, means we need to look out for each other, for the foreseeable future. Sending virtual hugs xx

New art work. "Inscrutable Realm"
12" x 12" box canvas
Acrylic paint

I love dreaming. I remember a primary school teacher telling my Grandmother, when I was seven, I had academic potential but I wasted it by daydreaming all the time! Luckily, I was too busy daydreaming to take that on board 🤭! I constantly 'see' landscapes and seascapes, like this. Hidden realms, just out of touch. I am sure one day, all the mysteries of the Universe will be revealed but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy my magical, oceanic landscape?

I will be putting more of these up, as I believe it helps the viewer see the artwork 'positioned' in a house. This piece is called 'Age Hides the Heart of Youth' and is for sale.

Hello! I have some exciting news. Since getting married last year, I felt it made sense to rebrand my creative work and split my art away from my furniture and jewellery. I have been working on a website for a while and it is now ready to go. I am just waiting for the Internet to publish it. Hopefully within the next 48 hours I will be able to post a link to it. Your support has always been most welcome and I am excited to hear your feedback. Much love Mel xx
