Central Florida - How to get the Springtime Bugs Out of your home.

Spring is a time of renewal, rejuvenation, and regrowth. It's also a time when many household pests come out of their winter hiding places to breed and feed. In Central Florida, some of the most common pests that homeowners may encounter during spring include Ants, Termites, Rodents, and Mosquitoes.

Ants are a common household pest in Central Florida, and they become particularly active during the spring months. There are several species of ants that are in the region, including Argentine ants, fire ants, and ghost ants. These pests can enter homes in search of food and water, and can quickly establish large colonies. To prevent ant infestations, homeowners should keep their homes clean and free of food debris, seal cracks and crevices around doors and windows, and remove standing water from their property.

Termites are another common springtime pest in Central Florida. These pests can cause significant damage to homes and other wooden structures and can be difficult to detect before it's too late. Signs of a termite infestation may include mud tubes along walls or foundations, swarms of winged termites, and soft or hollow-sounding wood. Homeowners should have their homes inspected for termites on a regular basis, and take steps to prevent infestations by keeping woodpiles away from their homes and ensuring that their gutters and downspouts are functioning properly.

Rodents like mice and rats can also become active in households during spring. They can enter homes through small gaps and holes in walls and can cause damage to property, as well as spread disease. To prevent rodent infestations, homeowners should seal any gaps or holes in walls or foundations, keep food stored in airtight containers, and keep yards and gardens tidy to eliminate potential nesting areas.

Mosquitoes are also found in Central Florida during the spring and summer months. These pests can carry a variety of diseases, including West Nile virus, Zika virus, and dengue fever. Homeowners can help reduce mosquito populations by eliminating standing water around their homes, installing screens on doors and windows, and using insect repellent when spending time outdoors.

WHEN DO TERMITES SWARM IN CENTRAL FLORIDA?

Termites are common in Central Florida, and they can cause significant damage to homes and other structures. Like all termites, those found in Central Florida will swarm at certain times of the year. Termite swarming is the process by which winged adult termites emerge from their colonies to mate and establish new colonies elsewhere.

In Central Florida, termites typically swarm in the spring, from March to May, although the exact timing can vary depending on the species of termite and local weather conditions. During this time, homeowners may notice swarms of winged termites, which can be alarming. Swarming is a natural part of the termite life cycle and does not necessarily mean that a home is infested. However, it is important to be aware of the possibility of an infestation.

It’s important to note that different species of termites may swarm at different times of the year. For example, subterranean termites, which are the most common type of termite in Central Florida, tend to swarm in the spring. Drywood termites, on the other hand, may swarm in the fall or winter. Knowing the species of termite that is prevalent in your area can help you to be more vigilant in monitoring for swarms and other signs of infestation.

If you suspect that you have a termite infestation in your Central Florida home, it’s important to act quickly to prevent further damage. Contact Scientific Pest Control and Termite to properly identify the species of termite and recommend the best course of treatment. Early intervention is key to preventing extensive damage and costly repairs.
