Did you know that the Pennsylvania State Budget has been unfinished for the last six months? That means that public libraries—including Guthrie Memorial Library!—who rely on that funding in order to operate and offer important materials and programs to the community, may soon be impacted by this!
☎️ Contact your PA Senator and Representative today and ask them to help finish the budget! You can find out who your legislators are here: https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/

WE DID IT! In early 2024, Hanover Borough Government will be sending out a Rental Inspection and Registration survey to the public to gather people's thoughts and hopefully provide data supporting the need for a Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance.
Thank you to every person who came out with me to a borough meeting over this past year! At last year's November Borough Council meeting I voiced my support for the Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance that was unfortunately tabled. But I didn't give up. I went to Public Safety Meetings and kept voicing support for our community's public safety. I took days without pay to participate in multiple trainings with the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs on how to legally and effectively implement the Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance. I spoke to multiple municipalities in York county about how they implemented a similar ordinance and the positive effects it has had on their community's public safety. I designed and handed out flyers to local businesses downtown to raise support for the Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance. I conducted my own survey and knocked on hundreds of doors in Hanover Ward 5 and heard from the people that this ordinance is NEEDED but would never get passed by council.
I want to thank every business that took flyers, every person who has thanked me for not giving up, every person who took the time to talk to me about this issue to share their thoughts and insight, and every resident that came out to these meetings. I also want to thank Hanover Police Department's Lieutenant Joseph Bunty, Hanover Area Fire & Rescue's Fire Chief Tony Clousher, and Hanover Borough Government's Chief Code Enforcement Officer Chris Miller for their informative presentation and for all they do to keep the citizens of Hanover safe. This is a win for Hanover's public safety. This is a win for Hanover police, Hanover firefighters, and Borough Staff that have been wanting this to help them do their JOB and keep our community safe.
It is now on us to make sure everyone in Hanover completes this survey. I will share the link once it is posted. Have a good Thanksgiving and never forget what 1 person can do for their community!
Should Hanover rental properties be inspected by borough? Council wants your opinion The survey will be distributed in the borough newsletter, as well as on web, social media, bills, and paper copies in the library and borough office.
Due to the low lake level, boat launch docks are no longer usable and will be pulled back until the lake level rises.
For your own safety, if launching a boat, please check any launch ramps before pulling onto them. Stay on the concrete pad as muddy conditions may exist beyond the ramp pad.
DID YOU KNOW... Guthrie Memorial Library has robotics teams? The Guthrie Geeks team is for high school aged kids and teaches participants to use critical thinking skills essential to STEM education and careers that require a conceptual understanding of math, science and engineering.

Due to the recent passing of Hanover Borough Government Councilperson Lockard after a lengthy illness, there is an open council seat on Hanover Borough Council for ward 5. I recommend watching the May 24th Borough Council Meeting, https://www.youtube.com/live/IssXp7PdqpM?feature=share, where Council President Bill Reichart presented a certificate of community recognition to Council Member Chris Lockard for his dedication and service to the Borough of Hanover.
The seat is open to any registered voter who has lived in the fifth ward of Hanover for at least one year, check the PA voter registration website to see which ward you live in https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/pages/voterregistrationstatus.aspx, and who would be available to serve as a Council member until December 31, 2023. Potential candidates should have availability in evenings to attend meetings, typically the third and fourth Wednesday of each month for Council meetings, and have an interest in local government.
Citizen Interest forms will be received until 4:30 PM today and should be sent to the attention of Borough Manager Lewis. Forms may be sent by email, mailed, or dropped off at the Hanover Borough Office, c/o Hanover Borough Manager, 44 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331. [email protected]
The Citizen Interest Form is available below:
