Yesterday was National Cancer Survivors Day but I didn’t quite have the words after an already emotional day watching my bestie run the Race For Life with my picture on her back…

We all know someone who is battling or has battled the big C and I am hoping we all know at least a few survivors too.

I was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2021. In short, I had skin cancer that had spread inside my body and could have been really really bad had I not found the lump so early on.

I will never ever forget a few things about my journey to beating cancer…
✨being told I had cancer, getting whisked into a side room and exploring what ‘life with cancer’ might entail; this feels so surreal even thinking about this.
✨the awful feelings of ‘what about my little boys?’ when I researched what I’d been diagnosed with; I still feel so sick thinking about this.
✨the endless appointments, scans, tests and trips to the hospital - mostly alone because
✨having my tumour removed and no longer feeling ‘dirty’ or ‘infected’
✨how poorly I felt on immunotherapy medication
✨the amazing skin cancer team at PCH who continue to look after me and not take any precautions

My whole perspective on life changed the day I was diagnosed. It was a very difficult and dark time but I can’t help but feel strangely grateful for the strength, resilience and courage I now feel. I feel like a part of me will never be the same again but I would say that life is better, I am thriving and I am a survivor 🩷

I’ve started running!

I am not, nor have I ever been into exercise so this may come as quite the shock 😂 but with my nearest & dearest all making an effort to get fit & raving about how good it is for their mental health, I felt it was time to jump on the bandwagon.

So I’m doing couch to 5k - and I’d LOVE to do a 5k later in the year for cancer research. I’m putting it here for accountability and would love to know if anyone would like to do it with me? 🩷

Oh, mental health…
It’s and I couldn’t let it pass by without a mention.

I have struggled with my mental health for YEARS; as long as I can remember actually. It’s something I have to manage daily, weekly, monthly and something that will continue to affect me probably forever.

One thing I have learnt over the years is to be open and honest about how my mental health demons make me feel. I am so guilty of bottling it, putting on a mask and just ‘getting on with it’. Us humans are really good at this!

I was asked to make this print as a reminder. It’s not about putting on a mask but knowing that you can get through even the darkest of times 🩷

I remember feeling worried about how it might affect my brand to do sweary things, but I’m so glad I did!

Now I’d just like to make some more sweary prints going into 2024…any ideas?!?!
