Another tiny portrait completed! This one is 30x40 mm and is painted on arches cold pressed watercolor paper using createx illustration colors. It was so fun!

A new wee comission. Locket is 30x40 mm. Finishing touches and mounting the glass and it will be completed! This was very fun to do. This is a really great example of how light/ dark and shapes create a likeness in art. Especially when painting so small.

Here is miniature I painted on onyx. A wee Mucha reproduction. It so tiny! For the detail work on these small paintings, I only use four or five hairs on a paintbrush.

Good Morning! I am finally working on Part three of my business which is portrait miniatures!

My passion for painting miniature portraits happened in 1993 when I started a new job with a Chicago based company called J.A. Dedouch.

I went through nine months of rigorous training before I was able to create photo realistic miniatures. The art I did for "Dedo" was hand painted portraits on porcelain that were used for memorial purposes. They were fired with a clear ceramic coating. There is a bit out there on google about the company and the "Dedos" are becoming quite collectable.
I have a lot of great stories and memories from this experience that I will share from time to time. I worked there for a decade. The company was bought out and there are no other places left that do that type of work anymore here.

Since then, I have continued to paint in miniature and two years ago took up the art again more seriously. I paint modern and historical miniature portraits in multiple medium types . My miniatures are between 25 mm x 25 mm up to 5x5 inches. If you are seeking anything larger please seek out my other page. Dark Valkyrie Design.

I create custom miniature portraiture of people and pets. My goal is to create a likeness of my subjects and to be able to provide a lasting and timeless piece of art for you.

I work with only archival materials and all of my portraits are hand painted and hand drawn.
I also paint on onyx as well as other Semi precious stones.
