Am I too old to learn a language? This is a question I get often from those in their 50s, 60s, 70s or beyond and my answer is a definitive "No!" One of the most exciting adventures you can embark on is learning a new language and all of us are capable of learning one well, despite our age. In fact, older learners have some unique advantages: 1. We already have a large vocabulary in our native language so we are simply mapping new words to concepts we already understand. 2. We've developed better study skills and are more apt to apply them when needed. 3. We are better at being self-aware, which makes it easier to identify learning problems we are having and therefore find solutions. So seriously, get out there and get learning. No excuses! You can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.
Seriously - Make this your year to learn a foreign language. You know you've always wanted to. 😁💪

We don't forget those foreign languages after all. According to a recent study by the University of York's Department of Language and Linguistics, when it comes to language, the old phrase "use it or lose it" doesn't apply. Only a small amount of motivation is needed to recall the language that was learned. Great news, that! So if you're feeling a bit rusty in that language you studied awhile ago, simply get back on that proverbial horse.
