DOCS 4 POC is a resident physician-led group of healthcare professionals across the United States dedicated to advocating for social justice for communities of color.
Our community gathered at Harbor-UCLA this evening to protest gun violence and police brutality against unarmed victims, most especially within the walls of our hospitals. As medical professionals of Los Angeles County, we are outraged by the recent shooting of a patient by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) at Harbor on October 6th, 2020. To continue this fight please sign the following petition calling for urgent measures to address these systemic issues in order to ensure the health and safety of our patients and staff: http://chng.it/V9HngKxVf2
Speakers included Dr. Darrell Harrington (Harbor UCLA), Dr. Alice To (UAPD), Dr. David Lyons (White Memorial), Mark Anthony (Front Line Wellness), Cynthia and Jessica Herrera (sisters of Ruben Herrera, another patient lost to police shooting at HUCLA), Dr. Hannah Janeway, Dr. Saba Malik, and LAC Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas. Thank you to Dr. Lorenzo Gonzales and for your organization and leadership.
Everyday until the 2020 Census deadline on Wednesday, September 30th, DOCS 4 POC will be providing YOU with materials to support you in helping communities of color GET COUNTED in the 2020 Census. Each day our participating institutions will focus on the initiatives listed in our calendar above.
Our responses to the 2020 Census will determine how 1.5 TRILLION DOLLARS from the U.S. government is spent on community resources like education, infrastructure, and healthcare. Make sure to check your emails for daily updates for our Census campaign, and if you’re not yet receiving our emails subscribe/become a member using the link in our bio! We drew hundreds of attendees to our virtual livestream, and made music for the movement led by Thrive Choir. We committed again to use our actions to show that Black Lives Matter.
