The Care Solutions Team in Reno, NV set up a Cornucopia Station and invited team members to come stuff their stockings and spend time together. This is just one example of how our teams bring holiday fun into our Caring Centers.
Each year we celebrate for our Caring Center employees across the country - this year we got to celebrate back in-person! Our employee’s relived their favorite memories throughout the decades participating in games and contests to win prizes. From groovy fashion from the 60s to 2000s swag – our employees took the opportunity to show their spirit all week long.
At Best Buy Health we are re-establishing Customer Sensitivity training for all employees that work or support Best Buy Health in any capacity.
During this immersive experience, our employees embody Frank, a 72-year-old man whose wife Maggie recently passed away. Throughout this three-module experience, our employees began to recognize common causes of isolation, identify the consequences of isolation, and the importance of creating communities of supportive connections.
Traditionally, this training is provided in-person through a VR headset but we’ve adapted this training to be offered virtually through our partnership with Embodied Labs.
“I started my career at Best Buy Health in Software Quality Assurance with the goal of becoming a Software Engineer. I quickly learned that one of the best ways to learn to develop quality code is to brainstorm potential ways to break it. This forced me to think about how to ensure a quality experience is delivered to our customers when using our software. With this experience and the support of numerous managers and mentors along the way, I finally achieved my goal of becoming a Software Engineer II. “I joined Best Buy Health in late 2020 as a Supervisor in Virtual Care. I had worked in other call centers, but Best Buy Health was something special from the start. I assumed that because I was joining during the pandemic, my access to the Wellness program would be limited, but that is not the case at Best Buy Health! The focus on wellness is undeniable. We have virtual yoga and fitness classes, financial wellbeing classes, and Speaker Series that focus on real and timely employee driven issues. In my short time here, leadership and peers have helped me feel welcomed and challenged me to always do great work. “I started my career designing ads for products and e-commerce sites to sell products. I realized that if I could help make better products, they would sell themselves. So, I joined the Product and Engineering departments as a Product Designer. I was encouraged to get out of the office and meet with our Caring Center agents, who talk to our customers daily. I met with real customers at their homes or community centers and even hosted smartphone classes for our customers to see firsthand what challenges arose while using our products. After five years of designing products, I’ve now stepped into the role of a Product and Offer Manager for those same products I previously helped design. Now I help lead teams of designers, developers, and quality assurance engineers towards that same goal to create real solutions for real people. I have found my calling at Best Buy Health. It is to use technology and meaningful connections to create real solutions for real people.” – Todd

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth played a critical role in providing safe, quality care to patients and families across the country. Telehealth Awareness Week, taking place September 19-25, 2021, will highlight the central role that telehealth now plays in the delivery of healthcare services and educate patient communities, consumers, policymakers and clinicians about the benefits of virtual care. “In 2016 I started a new career as a Technical Support Agent for our Caring Centers. I had never worked in a call center, but I quickly developed a passion for our products and testing them. I followed my curiosity and applied to the Logistics Department. I had supportive leaders who encouraged me and recognized my potential. With this support, I saw firsthand that if I continued to learn, work hard, and build relationships, then my career could have unlimited potential here. Soon I was promoted to Logistics Operations Lead, a role that allowed me to mentor peers and continue growing my expertise. In 2019, I became the Logistics Operations Supervisor, a role that allowed me to grow as a leader and manage an entire team while collaborating with other departments on special projects. Recently, I was promoted to Supply Chain Operations Manager. Best Buy Health is the best company I have ever worked for and I believe in their mission and purpose.” - Ben
“Seven years ago, I interviewed for a role as an Urgent Response Agent. After my first day of training, I knew this company was unlike any other I had ever been a part of. I took my first emergency call on my first overnight shift and up until that moment, I didn’t fully realize how important our mission is and how our customers were depending on me for emergency assistance. Over the years, my responsibilities grew and I was given opportunities to mentor my peers as a team lead. I had conversations with leadership identifying my strengths and passions. I realized I loved training and mentoring my peers and applied for every training position that came up. After many interviews with constructive feedback, leadership support, advice, and encouragement – my perseverance paid off. I’m now a Training Delivery Specialist. At Best Buy Health I’ve been reminded daily that it’s about the experiences and connections you make on the journey, not the destination. I am extremely appreciative to do meaningful work here.” – Jason
For the past eight years, our teams have participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which supports research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer’s. This year our teams will be walking virtually, using the option to Walk From Home and support this cause. As always, we’re committed to meaningful work and supporting meaningful causes.
“In 2013 when I started at Best Buy Health (formerly GreatCall), I spent five years as a Direct Sales Supervisor. I learned how to identify customer needs and motivate my team to encourage our customers to take the leap of faith and try their first smart phone or gain peace of mind from a new safety device. I learned that I love new challenges, leading teams, defining processes and helping our Caring Centers collaborate effectively between departments. With the support of honest leadership, between 2018 and 2021, I was able to expand my role nearly every year. I was able to take on new challenges, growing from a role as Manager of the Operations Control Center, to Senior Care Operations Manager, to my current role as Associate Director of Care Operations. After speaking with our Customer Service team, here’s what our customer shared; “I’m 92 years old and people have to be very patient with me. Your team was unbelievable. “Before I found Best Buy Health, I was working for a technology company that didn’t value its workers or invest in their company culture. I applied to a role at Best Buy Health from a friend’s referral and knew immediately my experience at Best Buy Health would be so different.
