We don't just teach our students Jiu Jitsu

We will talk to them, ask them about their week, we will make them laugh, we will include them, we will discipline them, we will teach them how to learn, we will give them some manners.

And ultimately we will give them something that we hope they look forward to doing each week maybe for the rest of their lives!

All our classes & workshops are taught by expert instructors with over 10 years of experience and a passion for martial arts and working with children.

Martial arts is a mandatory life skill

Swimming is categorised as a life skill and it should be non-negotiable for all children. Sooner or later all children will be exposed to water, (be it a pool, lake, river or ocean) and not having basic swimming skills and confidence around the water will hold them back and could be potentially fatal. They do not need to be an Olympic swimmer level but they need enough basic skills to tread water and survive but ideally are competent enough that they don’t have to be nervous or fearful around water.

The same thought process should be applied to martial arts. It has all the benefits of regular sports, but it also teaches self defence which is an essential life skill. In your child’s lifetime, they will almost certainly face the threat of physical violence often unavoidably and through no fault of their own.

When you are attacked, just like in the water, it doesn’t matter how hard you try, without proper training and technique you will panic, flail about and most likely drown. We put our kids in swimming lessons to prepare them, so they can be in the water without fear and tread water if they get into trouble. The day your child gets confronted by a bully ask yourself; have you given them the tools & confidence to stay calm, protect themselves and survive or have they been thrown in the deep end to fend for themselves?

Jiu Jitsu in the sun 🌞

We had two great sessions with the Camowen Smart Kids summer scheme this week. The first session was held in Beragh on Thursday morning with the second session taking place in Carrickmore on Thursday afternoon. We were very fortune to have the weather on our side with the sunshine.

The sessions covered an introduction to self defense, movement drills and of course some games 😊 The kids were excellent with both groups picking up the techniques very quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and hope the kids all took something away.

Improve self-confidence: ⁣⁣

Children who participate in Jiu-Jitsu will feel more confident in their ability to defend themselves and handle physical confrontations. ⁣⁣This can be especially important for children who may be shy or timid.⁣⁣

Jiu-Jitsu is the most adaptable martial art in the world. While some striking martial arts require speed, flexibility, and power to be effective, jiu-jitsu can be molded and adapted to every age and body type.

Jiu Jitsu is based more on timing and leverage than speed or strength, you don't have to be in peak physical shape to learn the art. Once you figure out a set of techniques that work for your body type, you can start to build an effective self-defense system that will work on someone younger, stronger, and more athletic than you.

Learning how to defend yourself is an extremely valuable skill. Although we'd like to believe that we live in a world where we would never need to use our skills in a real situation, the fact of the matter is that these situations can occur even if you are actively trying to avoid them.

When it comes to learning self-defense, you want to learn an art that is highly adaptable, doesn't inflict severe damage to yourself or your opponent, and that you can train in a relatively safe manner. These factors make jiu-jitsu the most effective form of self defense in the world.

Control and de-escalate without Inflicting Damage

Jiu-Jitsu is an art based around establishing a
dominant position of control leading to a submission. In self-defense situations, it's best to avoid inflicting damage to an adversary at all costs. This is where jiu-jitsu differs from other martial arts. With the proper amount of training, you'll be able to take an opponent to the ground and achieve a dominant position that will not cause any serious damage.

You can even talk to an opponent and calm them down while controlling them. This ability to de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation without causing physical harm is completely unique to BJJ.

Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and self-defense.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It can be a great option for children and teenagers because it can help them develop discipline, focus, and respect. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It can also teach them important self-defense skills that they can use throughout their lives

Jiu-Jitsu as a sport does not involve strikes or blows to the head. ⁣⁣This can make it a safer option for young children.⁣⁣

Enthusiasm is the energy and drive that propels individuals to take action towards their goals, and to persist in the face of obstacles and setbacks. ⁣

⁣Jiu-Jitsu not only helps to develop physical strength and coordination, but also teaches discipline, focus, and persistence. ⁣

The challenges and obstacles encountered in the practice of Jiu-Jitsu can be seen as metaphors for those encountered in life. ⁣

Additionally, the camaraderie and support of training partners can be a powerful source of inspiration and motivation.⁣

Incorporating Jiu-Jitsu into your kid's life can be a powerful way to cultivate and maintain the enthusiasm needed to achieve success. ⁣

The discipline, focus, and persistence learned on the mat, along with the support and inspiration of training partners and professors, can help kids to overcome obstacles and persist in the face of adversity, leading to the achievement of their goals.⁣
