Our organization is oriented at creating programs and services to help promote the cultural preservation, and re-education of the traditional ways, of the indigenous communities we serve so the cultures live on in the future.
"Believe it or not, us Ojibwe also have a story about Paul Bunyan. He came to the area known as Red Lake and tried his de-forestation BS, but Nanaboozhoo - The Greatest Ojibwe who ever lived - obviously wasn't having none of that. They got into a fight that lasted 3 days, and finally, our hero picked up a giant walleye and slapped the outlander silly with it. Paul got knocked on his ass in a mud puddle, so hard it left an imprint of his bu******ks there in the wet ground...thats why the lake is shaped the way it is and why we were able to keep our forest. You'll never hear this story in a book, but that's basically how I heard it from my father when I was young - after coming home from kindergarten in bemidj (pauls favorite town, mwahaha!) and talking about him.
That's the story behind the Paul/Babe & Nanaboozhoo statues in that town. This used to be a sign at the rez line, I remember the chimooks didn't like it and kept cutting it down. But the story lives on, and now you know." -unknown (tag for credit)
Actually, the whole area was "deforested" or "logged" from its
native White Pine habitat. The town Bemidji was one of the biggest lumber stations back in the day, dramatically changing the landscape. There are plaques by the lakeshore with pics and history of the logging and is a sad reminder of how land use and rights are important to every tribe and individual ndn as our lands get forever changes for the sake of progress.
Migrations are what help to make culture. Look at old maps and new to open your perspectives of who or what might have influenced the culture of an area before making decisions on their validity as peoples.
So people are always on this dude like he is the enemy. However, he is a Cherokee Nation citizen. So my question is, why is it when a leader acts in a way you like, then they are indigenous, but when they act in ways you don't, they aren't? Just a thought: regardless, Stitt is a dick. He can kick rocks. Here is a poll for yall. Is your indigenity attached to your political endeavors?
There is no question that living roots build our soil and keep it alive for generations to come. Roots provide structure for the soil to hang on to when destructive forces of wind and water occur. The more roots are in the ground than the more soil is saved in catastrophic situations. As a metaphor this applies, because as indigenous peoples, our roots go deep. We are the land & water protectors, we often end up the ones fighting for everyones rights while others cowardly run when things get hard. So in closing, stay true to your roots and hold the soil. That is the base that keeps our lands intact today against corporate interests and governmental overreach.
But how are you supposed to speak at night though? 🤔
For those who may not know, teepees are conical tents made of wooden poles with a covering of animal skins or blankets. They were warm in the winter and cool in the summer and could hold 30 or 40 people comfortably. Contrary to popular belief teepees were not a commonly used type of dwelling by Native American tribes until after the 17th century, and even then this was still particularly linked to those who lived on the Great Plains and adopted to living in teepees as their year-round dwellings; with that said, most natives lived in cabins/huts/longhouses, regardless to what american history books tend to make it out to be. Although many Native American groups used similar structures to teepees during hunting season, it was not their primary residence by any means.
Winter often brings hard times for many families. If you can make sure you share by donating to food pantries, etc., if you don't have food to give you can always give time. Protect your elders and the youth by ensuring food security. Stay safe all.
Always work together to make things better for you and yours. Don't sweat how you look in the process as it's the work that matters. Stand up for your causes and elders. That's what matters.
A lot of people talk. Know your roots.
Perspectives
Remember, borders are just lines in the sand drawn up by non-indigenous individuals to make claims to what was not theirs to begin with. This picture is of a Yaqui Indian during the Mexican Revolution, which took place from 1910-20, fighting against Spanish ideas that had permanent effects on the government of Mexico after it broke from Spain. On the 20th of November 1910 a callto arms was put out to overthrow its then current ruler and dictator Porfirio Díaz Mori and as a result of this conflict we saw a lot of indigenous peoples lose their identities, becoming "Latino" in mass in the process, leaving dialectos that show traces of their past in the cities, while their indigenous ways seem to struggle to stay a float. If you think it's hard for indigenous peoples in westernized first world countries; imagine the plight of those in other less fortunate countries. The nonprofit does a good job of trying to bring light to these issues. If you could please give them a follow to stay in the loop of global indigenous issues. The only way to combat the situations at hand is to build a global community set on doing just that.
"🔸Florida's Windover Bog Bodies (8000 years old), consisting of 168 ancient individuals that were found buried at the bottom of the Windover pond.
The peat at the lowest depths of the pond preserved the bodies so well that brain tissue has been able to be extracted from many of the skulls.
DNA from the brain tissue has also been able to be sequenced, making Windover one of the most important archaeological sites from the Archaic period to ever be excavated." - Repost from Ivan Royster on Facebook
Keep 'em on their toes. Look around at the natural world from time to time; take a second to plant your feet and just enjoy the journey.
Our peoples stay humble with our contributions, but those who know, know.
Bet.
Look up the statistics.

Get in where I fit in.
Race and color are social constructs. Indigenity is something that you have through your inheritance from your culture. Culture is not dependent on a skin color or any other trivial race-based thing. Just some food for thought.

It's a canvas that comes together to make our DNA. Every piece is important. ✨️
For those interested in this topic, I would suggest reading this piece of literature, as it pulls information and gathers testimonies from the 2021 conference headed by Survival International focused on just this.
If this isn't true. SMH. 🤣🤣💀
