Foundry Montessori School
A Montessori school serving children ages 2-6 years old, in the heart of the village of Cold Spring
At the Foundry, we’ve used Montessori principles to design a school which meets the needs of children at every developmental stage, while simultaneously dedicating a large part of the day to exploring nature and the outdoors.
Thank you to Marco the Magician for making a stormy afternoon so much fun! Highly recommend Marco for your birthday parties and events! He has the children ( and grown ups) enthralled!!! Thank you all for a wonderful summer at Foundry Montessori, enjoy your vacations and see you in the new school year!
There she goes inspiring young ones to want to be musicians yet again. Thank you Ms Llewellyn!
Thank you to Edwin Dubroff of for an impromptu kayaking lesson and a demo of what to do if you fall out of your kayak. The kids loved it!
Make way for ducklings… thanks to the Hilperts for introducing us to their adorable baby ducklings.
Conquering fears, helping friends, taking turns with the flashlights, fostering a spirit of adventure… so many goals accomplished with exploring the “cave” at Stony Point.
What a treat for our campers today! The boat came by and we got to watch them put out their nets and catch fish to measure and record. We got to see catfish, striped bass and silverside. Thank you for all the great work you do! Hopefully you inspired a bunch of future environmental conservationists.
Foundry summer camp off to a great start today!
Thank you Ross Corsair for capturing our show so well!

Thank you for these amazing shots of our play The Gigantic Turnip!
Our first three year Montessori cycle of the Primary program in the books! 4 of those cuties in the hats have been with us since they were 3 years old and are moving up to first grade in public school. The others are headed to kindergarten in public school! What an amazing privilege to watch them grow! Thank you parents for entrusting them to us. A big milestone for our little school.
Such a perfect day! We saw a milk snake, a blue tailed skink and found a crab claw and lots of feathers and cool rocks and sticks. We explored the beach, the overlook trail, the miners cave and an awesome driftwood shelter. We dug canals in the sand and built castles. We sang, we laughed, we played. We relished these last few moments together before we move on to summer adventures and new schools… I’m gonna need some help getting through this emotional last week of our first Montessori 3 year cycle.
Bravo to the cast of The Gigantic Turnip who put on a great show today! Watching the confidence grow from start to end is my favorite part of kids theater! Many thanks to Bethany Ciulla for costumes/ makeup and set design and to our Haldane intern and theater teacher extraordinaire for what she was able to accomplish with these kids!
Starting the holiday weekend off right with a trip to the Bear Mountain zoo! What a beautiful day!
Highly recommend for summer camp
Yesterday I got a peek into the toddler room: it was peaceful, the children were engaged and happy and all working independently or cooperatively. Both teachers were standing back and observing. It reminded me of what Maria Montessori said “The greatest sign of success for a teacher...is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist. ‘ Kudos to you and Ms Beth!
Another successful art show to celebrate a year of artistic exploration from Kandinsky and Po***ck to Van Gogh and Michelangelo, culminating in the fan favorite self portraits! A huge thank you to Ms Bethany for guiding the children and so beautifully curating their art to make them feel special and help grow their confidence!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Foundry moms!
“The land is where our roots are. Children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.” Happy Earth Day!🌎
Thank you for a wonderful day at the farm visiting the animals, learning about sheep shearing/ wool, corn and making Johnny cakes on the camp fire and exploring the pond ecosystem! Happy Earth Day everyone! 🌍
Instrument petting zoo after Peter and the Wolf. Thank you for making amazing children’s programming happen within walking distance of our schools! And how lucky are our kids to grow up in a community with access to such creative, talented and artistic people! Shoutout to .wallis.hall : a Foundry parent behind the crankie!
April book shelf: Earth Day, Eclipse, Easter/ Spring and Titanic
So happy to see our Ms Elaine heading out into the world, doing what she loves and what she is so good at! Happy to announce that Elaine will do her senior internship with us at Foundry next month and help get the kids ready for their end of year play! Congratulations !
Remembering the Titanic: We continued our exploration of the Titanic today and touched on the fact that it sank 112 years ago today. The children dressed up to represent which passenger or crew member they wanted to portray for the day! We were able to look at real pictures of crew, passengers, and artifacts recovered from the site. We were also able to celebrate some of the happy stories of passengers that survived, especially the story of Millvina Dean, who was only 7 weeks old when the Titanic sank. She was not only the youngest survivor, but also became the last living survivor of the Titanic. We spoke of the bravery of people in life boats that had room who went back to look for others who needed help. Most importantly, we spoke about the changes to boats and safety that came from this tragedy that help us stay safe today! We did an experiment to see how a big block of ice floats in water and had a snack of peaches and eclairs with tea ( one of the last meals they had on the Titanic) Thank you to Ms Bethany for making history so engaging for the children!
Thank you to all the Foundry parents past and present who showed up to help with the clean up at the Tots park! Can’t wait to bring the kids there this week!
“It made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school” Nursery rhymes coming to life today! Thank you and for bringing in the baby lambs and giving us a taste of farm life!
A perfect day to go on a snail hunt! ( more pics in story)
We saw the Great North American eclipse of 2024 with our Foundry community! Best science lesson ever!
