📧 Email Community.⠀
⠀
⠀
🗞️ Starting a regular newsletter or email list is a fantastic way to keep fans engaged in between episodes. It's so simple to get started and can really get the creativity flowing. ⠀
⠀
⠀
✨ Make sure there's a reason for people to subscribe such as extra content, tips, personal thoughts etc and consider offering a lead magnet to entice people to give their details. ⠀
⠀
⠀
😇 Consider the experience you'd like them to have when signing up and make it happen with your email tool. Automated email sequences, tagging subscribers based on feedback/clicks is a great place to start. ⠀
⠀
⠀

▶️ Going live.⠀
⠀
⠀
📣 Releasing live recorded content as part of your podcast is a great way of getting material out there. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🔁 Repeat any audience questions live so there's clarity on what is being asked and everyone can follow along, regardless of platform. ⠀
⠀
⠀
✂️ Avoid the temptation to over-edit. No need, just be upfront about acknowledge any blemishes. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🤔 How else can you bring the audience into the conversation? AMA, question times etc are great to get to know your fans better. ⠀
⠀
⠀
✅ We cover all this and far more in our newsletter. Twice a week, for free. Sign up in our bio. ⠀
⠀

🎙️ Interview time.⠀
⠀
⠀
❓ It's important to be clear on why you're doing an interview. Frame your questions in a way that brings out the answers you're looking for. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🌟 It's your job as the host to help them shine. Keep control of the conversation and guide it in the direction you'd like it to go. Don't be afraid to move on if it's going off-topic, but equally let them finish what they're saying once you've asked a question.⠀
⠀
⠀
📚 Research. Put in the work. It'll help your show stand out from the others and your fans will thank you for it. Minimise the risk of comments like 'I wish you'd asked him this...' due to lack of up-front work.⠀
⠀
⠀

👥 Co-hosts⠀
⠀
⠀
💌 The vibe between co-hosts is so important to the feel of the show. Make sure it's a natural connection and avoid anything that feels forced.⠀
⠀
⠀
🗞️ Choose your roles before the episode. Know who will be taking the lead in the conversation to avoid talking over each other. ⠀
⠀
⠀
😎 Make time for each other outside of the show. Displaying that friendship on the show adds personality that people love. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🧘 Be flexible with recording, workflow and setups. Two diaries so arrange makes things more complication, so share a schedule, episode map and batch activities. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🏷️ Tag your co-host⠀
⠀
⠀

⏲️ Where to start⠀
⠀
⠀
💭 Get your thoughts out there. Give yourself time to really think about why you're doing your show and what your goals are. Where would you like your show to be in one years time?⠀
⠀
⠀
📛 A show name, logo and music, make up some of the things you need to consider early on. Plenty more on that list, but that should get you off the mark.⠀
⠀
⠀
💸 Don't spend loads of equipment, there's no need. $150 all in should get you some excellent recording kit. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🗣️ Think about your audience and marketing early on. Give yourself a head-start for when your podcast is ready to release. An email list is a great place to start, check out the guide in our bio. ⠀
⠀

🗣️ Guests.⠀
⠀
⠀
📈 How do you make your episode stand out from others your guests may have been on? ⠀
⠀
⠀
👂 Listeners yearn for relatable and in-depth stories. Instead of asking the regular questions, what else could you find out from your guest?⠀
⠀
⠀
👍Keep your conversation as human and conversation like as possible. That means back-and-forth, follow up questions, reactions and all the blemishes that come with it. ⠀
⠀
⠀
🔗Ask your guests who they would interview if they were you? See if they can introduce you.⠀

📣 Podcast Intro's.⠀
⠀
⠀
🔗 Your intro's purpose is to hook the listener into the show and give them an idea of what's to come.⠀
⠀
⠀
🤩 Consider having a show intro and an episode intro to give people context of what you're about.⠀
⠀
⠀
🎙️ Record your intro (and outro) separately to your main episode recording. No need to do them together and allows you to control as much as possible. If the intro sounds good, people will be much for forgiving of the main episode.⠀
⠀
⠀
🗣️ Speak directly to your audience, 1:1. As if you're speaking to a friend. Make your show as warm and human as possible.⠀
⠀
⠀
🔥 Include a call-to-action in the intro. What one action would you like them to take? Subscribe? Review? Check out an old episode?⠀
⠀
⠀

📈 Growth.⠀
⠀
⠀
🔝Save this for when you're next thinking about how to bring on new listeners⠀
⠀
⠀
👇Here are a few keys points of podcast growth to consider⠀
⠀
⠀
1️⃣ Be consistent. Ruthlessly consistent. Show up on time, everytime. Show your listeners you care and are committed to them. ⠀
⠀
2️⃣ Uniqueness is what sets your show apart. If you don't know that yet, prioritising working it out. Find a niche and make that part of your marketing. You don't need to please everyone. ⠀
⠀
3️⃣ What content can you share outside of your podcast? An email list is perfect to get started and talk directly to your audience. Check out our email tool, ConvertKit in our bio.⠀
⠀
4️⃣ Bring fantastic guests on to your show. Guests with interesting, engaging and relatable stories are a sure-fire way to help your listenership. Consider guests' reach, but focus on quality. ⠀
⠀
⠀

👀 Don't buy another microphone until you read this.⠀
⠀
⠀
😲 Just because your microphone cost $500, it doesn't mean you're guaranteed decent audio. Invest time into learning how to use your existing microphone, before deciding you need a new one.⠀
⠀
⠀
👊 Have your mouth about a fist away from the microphone. Test it out and see the difference it makes. People love how intimate podcasts are, so take advance of this.⠀
⠀
⠀
🍾 Some pops are great, but not when it comes to microphones. Get a pop filter to reduce those pesky 'p's and 'b's that can ruin audio.⠀
⠀
⠀
🎙️ Everyones got their favourite microphone and so do we. Not for everyone and there's certainly better ones out there for more $$$. Our choice for the first time podcaster using a laptop. ⠀

✂️ Editing.⠀
⠀
⠀
💡 Use the built in tools on your editing software to save time.⠀
⠀
⠀
1️⃣ Auto-Gate. Gets rid of mouth sounds and heavy breaths.⠀
⠀
2️⃣ Noise Reduction. Remove background noise, especially constant sounds. ⠀
⠀
3️⃣ De-Reverb. Echoey recording? Try this and have a play around. Shout out to for this.⠀
⠀
4️⃣ Volume Leveling. Make everyones volume similar. Careful of distortion in unwanted places. ⠀

👨‍💻 Your Logo.⠀
⠀
⠀
👍 A thumbnail size image to entice people to click play. Not easy! ⠀
⠀
⠀
🗞️ There's a few guidelines to stick to and you'll be well on your way. ⠀
⠀
⠀
1️⃣ Add some personality. Don't stay behind a corporate logo or words. ⠀
⠀
2️⃣ Get your design on point. If you're struggling get a designer from or , or search on IG⠀
⠀
3️⃣ Get the basics right with sizing. As high-resolution as possible. Min 1400x1400, Max 3000x3000.⠀
⠀
4️⃣ Invest time on it. Make sure you're happy with it. It counts early on with charts on Apple Podcasts.⠀

✨ Reflection⠀
⠀
😎 It’s coming up towards the longest day in the year here in the north, it’s pretty much light all day now, the light only slightly dipping overnight. ⠀
⠀
📆 It’s also coming up to half-way through the year. So let’s take stock of how things are going. ⠀
⠀
⛷️ We initially came to Åre, Sweden, for a ski season and to work remotely. Fast forward a few months and we’re still here, amazed at how the place has transformed now the snow is melting. This is one of our favourite places to view the lake and a great place to take stock. ⠀
⠀
🤯 By all accounts, a pretty whirlwind 2020 so far! What have been your biggest learnings/ takeaways from the first 6 months of the year?⠀
⠀

🚀 Podcast pre-launch⠀
⠀
⠀
📣 Don't underestimate the pre-launch. Such a vital time to get your voice out there and to help with initial traction on the pod.⠀
⠀
⠀
🎙️ Try appearing on other people's pods, creating value-led, sharable content. Try to get as much visibility as possible!⠀
⠀
⠀
👥 Lean on the guests you have on your show to help too. Any pre-recorded episodes you have, get the guests to help promote too. ⠀
⠀
⠀
⏲️ Timers, lives, webinars; so many options out there to generate hype. Get creative and think outside the box.⠀

🙉 This video is all about background noise. The number of podcasts we hear with rustling, notifications and tapping.⠀
⠀
🎙️ All this gets captured in your audio and can really impact the sound of the show. ⠀
⠀
🔕 Do-Not-Disturb mode is crucial!⠀

😎 Day 4 and we're talking acoustics. ⠀
⠀
🏠 An echoey room can really impact your audio. Get creative to try and avoid it! ⠀
⠀
🛋️ Filling the room with soft surfaces will reduce the bounce of the sound off the walls. Think sofas, duvets, even egg boxes!⠀
⠀
😂 Let us know if you've come up with any creative ways in the comments ⠀
⠀
👊 Mastermind launches tomorrow! Stay tuned for the link and tomorrows post⠀

👋 Day 3 and it's time to chat recording software. ⠀
⠀
🥫 Hate that tinny, distant sound when you're doing remote podcasts? One reason could be your recording software. ⠀
⠀
😵 Especially if you're using call software like Zoom or Skype, audio is squashed in order to preserve video. ⠀
⠀
👍 Consider using tools like SquadCast (Link in Bio) or Zencastr for this. Much richer sound and far less compression. ⠀
⠀
✊ Remember! If you're recording solo episodes use a local recording software like Audacity, Garageband or Adobe Audition. ⠀
⠀

Day 2 - Microphone Distance⠀
⠀
🎙️ You can have the best microphone in the world, but if you're not using it right, you wont get the audio quality you're after.⠀
⠀
👊 Aim to be about a fist away from the microphone. Close enough for that rich sound quality, far enough away so the sound doesn't get clipped. ⠀
⠀
⏰ Check back later today for our Day 3 video, all about recording software ⠀
⠀

🔢 Day 1 of our 5-part short video series on how to get better sound quality. ⠀
⠀
🎙️ First up it's the microphone you use. A good microphone will elevate your audio quality into feeling intimate, raw and really authentic. ⠀
⠀
💡 A really great, budget friendly option, is the Audio Technica AT2020+. About $100 and gives you that rich sounding audio that listeners love.⠀
⠀
⏰ Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode on how you use it. A little teaser...if you're not using it right, it doesn't matter how good your microphone is!⠀

🚀 Audience growth⠀
⠀
🚨 Reminder to join our slack community - link in bio!⠀
⠀
🤓 One of the most common questions we get asked. Here are some of our thoughts. ⠀
⠀
😧 You can't please everyone, so don't try to. Stick to what you know and be laser focussed on people that you know will find your content valuable. Stay in your lane. ⠀
⠀
🧩 Podcasts are just one part of the puzzle. How else can you engage your audience in your topic, so listening to your podcast just becomes a natural part of someones day?⠀
⠀
🤗 Be accessible in your podcast platforms and communication. Let people engage directly with you and great those 1:1 connections. ⠀
⠀
🚅 Don't expect overnight success or silver bullet. Doing one thing really well won't help if you drop the ball on other basics too. ⠀
⠀
👋 Feel free to share any successes you'd had with techniques for audience growth.⠀

📧 An email list for your podcast? Really? ⠀
⠀
🔁 YES! Algorithms of social channels are changing all the time. But the trusty email list just keeps on giving that consistency. ⠀
⠀
👋 Far more personal and 1:1, an email list is great for adding value in-between episodes, giving listeners more insight into your life and strengthening your connection. ⠀
⠀
🤨 There's some big no-no's when it comes to email though and the first is having people on your list who don't want to be there. Offer value first, then suggest people subscribe. Not the other way round. ⠀
⠀
🗺️ Map out your subscriber journey and think about how you want the experience to be. It all counts as part of your brand, by the way. ⠀
⠀
🧨 Offer something unique to your email subscribers. There has to be a reason why someone would subscriber, over just episode reminders. What can you offer?⠀
⠀
😍 We love . So simple and easy to use with great automation features. Perfect for starting out and growing your listen. Link in bio. ⠀

📱 Record a podcast from your phone⠀
⠀
👋 We've got you covered. Whether you got caught off guard and are waiting for equipment to arrive, or you've got a great idea and just want to get it out there; mobile recording could be your answer! ⠀
⠀
⚠️ A bit of advice first up. It's a rough and ready way of podcast. Adjust your expectations to match that. Your audio won't be perfect. But it will allow you to get content out there. And that's what matters, really. ⠀
⠀
🎧 Avoid bluetooth headphones. Stick to wired headphones or just record directly into your phone. Even better, try to get your hands on a phone compatible microphone. ⠀
⠀
🎙️ Use the built in recording software or a tool like Anchor to record your podcast. ⠀
⠀
🎚️ Always always test before recording. Try out different distances away from your phone and try out covering your phone with a sock as a way to reduce pops. ⠀

✏️ Create an awesome podcast logo⠀
⠀
📏 Size matters. Above 1400x1400 and below 3000x3000pxls to be precise. Keep it simple and uncomplicated, and easy to see on a phone. ⠀
⠀
🤓 Adobe has some great resources for inspiration. are great places to check out for IG related content.⠀
⠀
😀 Show some personality! Get the host's face/s on there. Build some immediate connection. ⠀
⠀
📊 The quality of your logo will be a factor in whether you make it to one of the charts. Especially Apple Podcasts. And with over 50% of listeners, it's worth the effort.⠀

🚨 Now everyone's at home, here's what you can do if your audio quality isn't what it once was⠀
⠀
💸 There's some great free tools out there like Audacity and Garageband. But you really do get what you pay for too. Our firm favourite is Adobe Audition. ⠀
⠀
🌐 For internet-based interviews, you may hear 'clicks' if the connection isn't good. There's a 'declicker' feature on some softwares that gets rid of this.⠀
⠀
👻 For echos it's the 'dereverb' feature you need. It won't be perfect, but the software is improving all the time.⠀
⠀
👂 What about background noise? Fortunately most softwares have this. Have a play around with the levels, it can distort your audio so it's a balancing act. ⠀
