Yesterday’s Helena FLL competition went swinging. Thanks to all the volunteers, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Seasons Greetings,
We are hard at work today. The programmers are implementing the ability to detect April Tags during autonomous. While our builders are diving into the depths of CAD, working on a new design for both our claw and side plates. In particular Kate, who claims she’s in her “Crying CADing Corner” is working on the side plates, I promise we aren’t forcing her to do this. We are excited for our upcoming Helena Qualifiers.
We just completed our first competition in Butte, Montana. The robot didn’t work as well as we wanted it to, but left plenty of room for improvement. We have already discussed how we are going to fix the problems we faced, and ways to improve on the aspects of the robot that worked well. We also won the Inspire Award, qualifying us for state.
We have been hard at work these past few weeks. We have made steady progress towards building the robot. As well as that, the programmers have a good base for when they are able to get their hands on the robot.
This year’s game Center Stage is officially underway. We started our season with a brainstorming session, with lots of different drones being tested out. Following that we got right into building the field and prototyping our robot for the year.
Today we had the pleasure of showing Dr. Dava Newman around our space and doing a Q&A session with her. Dr. Newman is the director of the MIT Media Lab and a former deputy administrator of NASA. We were able to talk to her about her work in biomedical and aerospace engineering and our goals for the future.
Thank you for making the stop to see us!
