Chalk Furniture

In 2022 we brought Chalk Furniture for the first time to an international level. Our first showcase in Brazil took place in February at one of Curitiba's most intimate venues: . A solid line-up for the event was curated by , full of talented DJs and music enthusiasts that accompanied our project throughout these 3 years - , and , our deepest gratitude for making our first showcase in Brazilian soil a very memorable and cherished evening.

Moving forward to April, and went to the south of France to represent Chalk Furniture in Marseille, performing alongside over 10 veteran DJs from the UK & France. The event took place at and was organized by .a.marr - huge shoutout to him for this incredible invite and trust in our sound. It was a really great experience to showcase our work to people in different countries and feel the warm reception on the dancefloor!

Things didn't stop there, as in June the label was invited by one of Curitiba's most influential collectives, , to join the label's party with at . Chalk Furniture was responsible for the curation of the club‘s VIP room: in addition to our resident and cofounder , and complemented our roster for the night. We will always be grateful for this amazing opportunity and for the people who made this happen: producers, DJs, promoters and dancers alike. (text continues on the comment section) ++

In December 2020 we decided to celebrate our 1 year anniversary with a livestream, as the measures with COVID started to get stricter again. That didn’t stop us from having a great online celebration, appearing on the top charts of Mixcloud within the 5:30 hours of transmission. We reached more than 1200 persons while showcasing a great roster of talented local DJs from the city of Münster: , & – we would like to thank you for the continuous support & friendship throughout these years. It is because of this trust in each other’s work that we were able to achieve great deeds with the Chalk Furniture project

Fast-forward to September 2021, when we performed for the first time at together with the .der.guten.laune crew. This partnership presented us with 3 amazing gigs where we could showcase our work to an even bigger amount of people. Together with us in the “7th” picture is , who signs the creative direction at Chalk furniture since the moment of its creation.

Gian is an essential part of Chalk Furniture - without him, we wouldn’t be able to translate our vision into art and design. To say that his art style had an influence in the way we portrayed our brand wouldn’t even scratch the surface - therefore we invite him to briefly share his creative process while at Chalk Furniture:

“It was the best experience for me because it was the first opportunity I had to be able to develop my approach and aesthetic - specially the chalkcast series of artworks allowed me to create a solid method of working while developing new worlds for each podcast cover. Working with friends and people that I love and appreciate was crucial for all this to happen."

Chalk Furniture started from our inner desire to explore and celebrate the plurality of dance music. Long time friends who cherish the underground scene in Brazil, now saw themselves in a new environment in Germany, full of potential possibilities.

In December 2019, the project began to take shape in a rather cold day in Münster - where we had our first press kit shooting with . The label always counted with the support of great friends & artists who believed in our vision, and little by little what we only imagined and longed for began to take shape in reality.

In the coming month we had our first showcase at the renowned in Münster, and needless to say what a joy it was to see new & old faces dancing to our signature sound. After a great first performance, the opportunity came to be behind decks again at Fyal in July 2020. This kicked off a series of showcases at the venue, which were 9 in total. This relationship with Fyal and its manager is something we are very found of - and as we like to say: there wouldn’t be Chalk Furniture without Fyal!

Every moment of this kick-off was incredible and we are very grateful for it. Even with the restrictions of the time period due to COVID, we had nevertheless incredible opportunities that always followed all the health measures established in our state and city.

This is the first post of a 3-part-series that aims to shine a light on our achievements as a label. If you have followed us closely for these past 3 years, you can probably figure out what is coming next 💜

Coming up in our Chalkcast series, with massive percussions, ice melting House tracks and a fine selection, we are pleased to welcome ! That marks our 10th edition, which means a lot to us! Being able to work, collaborate and showcase various talented artists from all over the world between these years, is just incredible 💜

Artana is a project headed by Fabíola Heidemann, owner of a musical identity embodied by diverse rhythms that has as a characteristic atypically mental and danceable mixtures. Active in the scene since 2018, her references are constantly expanding, integrating genres from all continents of the planet.

Our next guest brings a mix full of harmonic and authentic House music!

We are very happy to announce as our next Chalkcast guest.

Thiago Oliveira is a DJ and cultural producer from Curitiba. With only 22 years old already collects passage by clubs, independent parties and is gaining more and more space in the local scene. Thiago is one of the people responsible for the .music project, always seeking harmony between music and the perfect environment.
With 3 years of career, the DJ is in constant evolution in the south of Brazil. Nowadays, he dedicates himself more as head and curator in one of his most engaged projects, .radio.

The artist praises his taste for good music and is very familiar with House Music.
Today, he has three projects focused on music, one being his radio, and the other two, acting as resident/producer on the projects mentioned above and .cwb.

After a small hiatus, the Chalkcast series is back!

To start this new season, we bring to you a live mix, full of electro, techno, acid and intense sounds with an 100% authorial tracklist.

Ladies and gents, we hereby present Oxymore as the next guest in our podcast series!

Oxymore started his music journey by playing drums as a teenager. His curiosity led him to fall in love with electronic music, eventually gravitating him towards live performances with synthesizers, to which he has confessed having a fascination-turned-obsession. Fully self-taught and meticulously developed into his own signature style and sound with an always very spontaneous approach, currently he is a resident DJ of , label based in Arnhem, Netherlands.

E para finalizar as apresentações, nosso próximo convidado anunciado para nossa primeira showcase no Brasil, é um dos fundadores e idealizadores da Chalk Furniture! Apresentamos, Cmba.

Inspirado pela pluralidade musical, Cmba não se limita a rótulos e está sempre aproximando a diversidade em seus sets. Desde pesadas basslines, percursões intensas até um warmful House, Cmba mergulha através de gêneros como Experimental, Breaks, House e Jungle, para citar alguns, e está constantemente procurando inovar e se adaptar. Isto traz como um dos objetivos do artista, que é o de abordar a complexidade e diversidade de suas seleções às pessoas, considerando a adaptação e construção dentro da situação em que o artista se encontra, tentando causar uma sensação de surpresa na pista de dança, deixando um ar de imprevisibilidade para a próxima música que será mixada e apresentada ao público.

Inspired by musical plurality, Cmba does not limit himself to labels and is always approaching diversity in his acts. From heavy basslines, intense percurssions to a warmful house, Cmba dives through genres such as Experimental, Breaks, House and Jungle, to name a few, and is constantly looking to innovate and adapt. This brings as one of the artist's goals, which is to address the complexity and diversity of his selections to the people, considering the adaptation and construction within the situation the artist is in, trying to cause a sense of surprise on the dance floor, leaving an air of unpredictability for the next song that will be mixed and presented to the audience.

For this edition we present, Lachouski.

"Observant, attentive and music enthusiast Lachouski sought to absorb knowledge through the history of electronic music exploring musically different eras. Thus, bringing influences that come from the early 80's House Music in New York, Chicago and Detroit's Techno to the sound of the effervescent and atmospheric Berlin and the Balearic Ibiza, cities that he had contact when he lived in the Old Continent.

He is one of the creators behind the Another project in Florianópolis, which brings a concept that goes beyond music, seeking to instigate another perception."

We are delighted to present the next guest in our Chalkcast series, the one and only Ole Oetkers

Cofounder of collective SWARM and Heinz Sommer - Open Air and venue manager of the Fyal, Ole Oetkers has been an integral part of the music scene in Münster for 9 years, collecting performances in every famous club in the city and in renowed clubs in Germany. From groovy basslines to whipping hi-hats, his constantly growing record collection in the fields of House, Techno and Dub-Techno with a pinch of Acid ensures that people are under his spell during his sets. Whether melodic with depth or powerful hymns with a lot of drive, it's all about one thing - good mood.

For this particular vinyl-only set, he's bringing a mix between House and Techno with some dubby, minimalistic and funky elements. In his own words:

"It was a pleasure to record this set for the Chalk Furniture crew! I got in contact with the lovely boys about one year ago and we arranged some label showcases at our beautiful art-café called Fyal Central in Münster. We had great nights with fantastic music - I do already miss those times. To be honest, it’s more fun to play live at clubs or festivals, but I am optimistic about having a nice summer, were we will be all dancing together again!"

For the sixth installment in our Chalkcast Series, we are delighted to introduce you to a very special guest, 7swe ᴰᴶ
He choose some of his favorite tunes to compose a special vinyl-only mix.

Since he started to DJ, 7swe has developed a well defined expertise in selecting records, with influences embracing Rap to Techno. Dark or colourful, he loves contrasts and making people have a good time. In his own words: “full of optimism for the new year - 7swe on the mix!”
