A RARE COLOMBIAN WIN ON BRAZILIAN SOIL βš½οΈπŸ†πŸ₯‡πŸ‡§πŸ‡·πŸ‡¨πŸ‡΄

Just as the Colombian Football League defending champions Deportes Tolima were staring defeat in the face with 4 minutes of regulation time left to play, two quick goals from JuliΓ‘n QuiΓ±ones and Anderson Plata helped them turn the game on its head.

Pedrinho opened the scoring for the Brazilian SΓ©rie A powerhouses AmΓ©rica MG in the 53rd minute, only for Plata to grab the equalizer 13 minutes later.

A 77th-minute own goal by Junior Angulo looked to have won the game for the Brazilians, but Deportes Tolima had other ideas. Up stepped QuiΓ±ones with a well-taken late equalizing goal that surely meant that the Colombians would get something out of the game.

As if that wasn't enough! With practically the last kick of the game, Plata completed his brace, and the famous comeback in a country that has not been a happy hunting ground for Colombian teams.

3–2 was the final score, and the visitors walked away with all 3 points.

COVID-hit River Plate win with midfielder Enzo Perez in goal, no substitutes

River Plate had to play midfielder Enzo Perez in goal because of a coronavirus outbreak but still beat Independiente Santa Fe 2-1 in the Copa Libertadores.

The Argentine side had 20 players test positive for Covid-19 and, along with injuries, went into the Group D game in Buenos Aires with just 11 players.

Four River Plate keepers were impacted and a request to register their fifth and sixth keepers was rejected.

Perez, 35, was chosen to play in goal and helped his side to victory.

In the South American equivalent of the Champions League, Fabrizio Angileri and Julian Alvarez put River Plate 2-0 up against the Colombian side.

Perez, who started for Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final, said he used "the penalty spot as reference" after seeking advice about playing in goal as he tried to "focus and help the team".

He was beaten by a Kelvin Osorio effort late in the game but River Plate held on for a win which put them top of their group.

RIVER PLATE BRUTALLY OUTCLASSED BY PALMEIRAS IN THEIR MOUTHWATERING SOUTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE SEMIFINAL FIRST LEG

South American Champions' League Semifinal 1st Leg:

River Plate (Argentina) πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· 0 – 3 πŸ‡§πŸ‡· Palmeiras (Brazil)
⚽ Rony ('28)
⚽ Luis Adriano ('49)
⚽ Matías Viña ('62)

River Plate's lack of technical and tactical class was exposed the Brazilian SΓ©rie A leaders Palmeiras came to Argentina and produced a hugely impressive display against them. Warning signs were flashing almost from the kick-off as Palmeiras, looking sharper and more inventive than the team they sliced apart this evening. It was no surprise when Palmeiras opened up River Plate with precision for three goals and the Argentinean team simply had no answer in any area of the pitch.

When River Plate had half-chances they could not convert them and when dangerous balls flew across the face of goal there was no-one on the end of them. River Plate looked a well beaten side once the deadlock was broken by Rony in the 28th minute and if there is any consolation, and in truth there is not, it is that the damage could have been a lot worse, such was the gulf in class.

😱😱😱 GROUP E OF THE CHAMPIONS' LEAGUE SAYS EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW SCARILY STRONG BRAZILIAN TEAMS ARE πŸ†βš½οΈπŸ‡§πŸ‡·

New season, same old story of Colombian teams being utterly dominated by their Brazilian counterparts, and Group E of the South American Champions' League is a prime example of that. πŸ†βš½οΈπŸ‡§πŸ‡· Brazilian giants Internacional and Gremio occupy the first two slots.

How about that?!? 😱😱😱 As much as Colombian club football is advanced, of high-quality, to the point where their country even produced a Champions' League winner in 2016 (Atletico Nacional), they are still some distance behind Brazilian teams in terms of the game's technical aspects.

Brazilians just seem to have that mental edge and extra quality that has enabled them to repeatedly break the hearts of Colombian teams.
