Going to Ghana

I am volunteering primarily in schools to help improve English skills of Ghanian children. I will be developing educational resources that can be used to tutor those who might be falling behind and contributing to each school’s needs. This includes making improvements to the facilities. I will be splitting my time between teaching at the school and lending a hand on campus refurbishment projects. My peers and I will be able to serve every aspect of the school, and learn all about education in Ghana. I am so excited to embark on this journey!

This life changing experience includes developing educational resources to tutor children at a local primary school. While building and refurbishing school facilities, I will also be educated on social issues facing Ghana’s women and children. Journeying to a beautiful waterfall, learning traditional African dance, batik fabric dyeing, drums and percussion awaits me in Ghana. The bustling outdoor markets and historic sites are roaring with invitation. Fourteen days of immersion have my soul so eager to embark! Will you aid me in this amazing journey?

A vast and diverse continent awaits me, teeming with the sights and sounds of daily life. Cultural landscapes spill out in front of a backdrop of a multitude of physical ones-vast savanna, rolling desert, mountain trails and southern sunsets await.

I will be exploring issues of public health and education in the heart and soul of West Africa, among Ghana’s welcoming, passionate and peaceful people. All while experiencing the contrast and diversity of South Africa, finding just a glimpse into its unparalleled beauty.

Africa boasts fifty-four countries and thousands of cultures, and languages. It is as diverse of a continent as they come. I will be surrounded with smiling faces, enticing drum beats, and intoxicating spices…all inviting me to explore Africa beyond my wildest expectations!

On this program I will step onto the flat, sandy earth of Ghana in West Africa and embark on a journey I will never forget. I will join peers, local leaders and community members as I volunteer among one of the continent’s most passionate and welcoming communities.

My presence will infuse the school with excitement as I work on community-led service projects to uplift and develop the surrounding school community.

I will experience what life is like in Ghana, from ancient traditions still practiced today, to modern practices found throughout bustling Ghanaian communities.
