The Gambia's National Coordinator and Co-Chairperson of the African Women Leaders Network, Muna Jallow, has announced the launch of their national chapter on May 16, 2023. The launch event will be held at the luxurious Coco Ocean Resort & Spa Hotel and will be attended by the President of The Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, as well as a high-level delegation led by the AU Special Envoy and dignitaries from around the world.

The launch of the national chapter in The Gambia is an important step towards promoting gender equality and women's empowerment in the country and across the African continent. By working together, we can create a brighter future for women, promoting their full and equal participation in all aspects of society and advancing the Africa agenda 2063 and the global agenda 2030.

The Gambia Steering Committee of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) meets President Adama Barrow together with in-country UN system and ECOWAS in order to update him on the preparedness of the launching of the Gambia National Chapter on 16th of May 2023, at the Sir Dawda kairaba International Conference Center.

The National Coordinator & Co-Chairperson Ms Muna Jallow introduced the delegation and briefed the President about the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) is an Africa-wide movement of women for the transformation and development of the African continent through women’s dynamic engagement and participation in decision-making at all levels of society, in line with the Africa Agenda 2063 and the Global Agenda 2030.

Since the establishment of the Network in 2017 by the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN) supported by Federal Republic of Germany and South Africa, the Network has established 32 national chapters on the continent and The Gambia would be the 33rd country to launch.
