Cucumbers don’t like temperatures below 50*! Storing cucumbers below fifty degrees Fahrenheit can cause chilling injuries, such as mushy spots and faster spoilage. So leaving them on the countertop in a cool sit away from high ethylene-producing fruits like bananas, melons, pears, etc can keep them fresh for up to 2 weeks or more.

If you must put them in the fridge then find a spot near the front and center of your fridge so they are not too chilly.

Up your game? Keep them outside the fridge and individually wrapped with the bag open on the counter! 🤯

Black garlic is truly a unique ingredient. It has soft, sweet and savory characteristics that you have to experience! It is made by taking fresh heads of garlic and aging them for weeks in a low heat environment with a little humidity. This activated the maillard reaction, giving it it’s beautiful deep black color and memorable sweetness. So how would you use this and can you make it at home?

This sweet and savory garlic has a molasses-like richness with a gentle garlic tang that makes it fit beautifully into many applications. You could mix it with whipped butter to put on a toast or blend it into a demi glace to serve with a charred steak or lamb chop. You can mix it into stews or risotto for a subtle, sweet umami flavor. I love how it pairs with roasted mushrooms, maple syrup or seared scallops!

You could make black garlic at home, and it is totally worth it, but it is a long process of waiting. All you need is a rice cooker or crock pot, and a lot of patience. Here are the steps:
Choose fresh, whole garlic bulbs
Wrap each bulb in aluminum foil
Place in a crock pot or rice cooker at a temperature of 140 degrees for 3-4 weeks
Once the garlic has softened and become a dark, black color it is ready to use.

This simple Ayurvedic tip has saved me so many times from the bloating & digestive upsets than can come from having a big meal or when going to the restaurant. The ginger, lemon, and salt help us gather all the digestive juices needed to properly digest a meal, while the pinch of cayenne helps us break down the excess mucus we usually get from this time of the year (late winter / early spring).

2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
1 tbsp lemon juice
Pinch of sea salt
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1 cup filtered water

Blend all the ingredients for 30-60 seconds. Transfer to an air-tight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Drink as little as 1 tsp before meals to start with. You can then take up to 1 tbsp if it feels good.

⚠️ If you tend to have acid reflux, I would double the amount of water, and do NOT use cayenne pepper. And if it still triggers acid reflux, don’t do this practice.

🌱Ingredients:
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
250 ml drinking water
🌱Steps
- Take a vessel and add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds to it.
- Heat it a little on low flame for about 5 seconds.
- Pour 250 ml of drinking water into it and let it boil.
- After boiling, let it be covered and untouched for about 5 minutes.
- Strain it into your teacup and enjoy it warm.
- According to your taste you can add honey or a pinch of salt to it
- Finished.

🌱 Herbs can be great when used in your daily life in the form of food, supplements, oils, teas etc.

🤷‍♂️ But they can get confusing, so let’s jump into some of my favorite and why.

1️⃣ Turmeric: This works best when combined with black pepper and the active ingredient Curcumin is mainly responsible for its anti-inflammatory effects.

4️⃣ Peppermint: Peppermint oil has been shown to relax muscles in your digestive system and improve various digestive symptoms.

5️⃣ Oregano Oil: Oregano oils are know for being one of the strongest anti-microbials, as well as their antiviral and anti-fungal properties.

6️⃣ Ginger: Ginger is not only one of the best herbs for overall gut health, but it is highly effective against nausea as well.

7️⃣ Astragalus:Astragalus is also an antioxidant that has been shown to positively stimulate the immune system. It also has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

8️⃣ Garlic: Studies have found garlic may have positive effects on heart health by preventing cell damage, regulating cholesterol and lowering blood pressure. Other research shows that garlic supplements may also reduce plaque buildup in the arteries.

9️⃣ Holy Basil: Holy basil has been shown to have anti-depressant and anti-anxiety properties similar to anti-depressant drugs. Studies have shown that it can help people feel more social and less anxious.

🔟 Lemon Balm: Shown to have strong anti-viral properties and works great as an oil or tea. Many have used this on their skin to reduce cold sores as well.
