Be careful when you say ‘it couldn’t possibly get any worse’

I cannot believe I’m writing this…

The day after Evelyn was removed from her ventilator, Sam took Koko to A&E at Lister.

She’d had an obvious sinus infection but her PCR was negative (despite the rest of us being covid positive). Koko’s eye became puffy and I thought it might have been a sty…but over 24 hours her eye continued to swell and she complained of a severe headache.

Koko ended up being blue lighted to Addenbrookes at midnight on Tuesday evening. Evelyn and I were here waiting for her.

A CT scan showed that the sinus infection had entered the cavity around her brain and she was in severe danger.

What began as a plan for an emergency 2-3 hour operation turned into an agonising 8 hours in theatre….with world class surgeons from Neurology, ENT, Opthamology and Paediatric’s all working on her.

Koko pulled through with a new badass scar, some titanium screws and a whole lot of courage. She is lucky to be here.

We now face a huge recovery period and 3 months of twice daily (yes, daily!) visits to hospital for IV antibiotics through a permanent PICC line installed in Koko’s arm.

We’re hoping to be reunited with Sam and baby Evelyn soon. Evelyn is also stable, but she’s not recovering as quickly as should be.

I don’t have words for what our family has been through in the past 7 days. It’s unfathomable.

I completely understand that I have let so many people down with Christmas orders. But I am currently on lockdown in the hospital. If I leave, I am not allowed to return to my babies until they are ready to be discharged.

We’re anticipating release next week and will get your orders out to you as quickly as we possibly can. I promise.

As many of you know from our stories, our sweet baby Evelyn contracted Covid earlier this week. Unfortunately, she has deteriorated very rapidly and is now sedated and on a ventilator in intensive care.

Despite our situation and the isolation period Sam is under while I’m living at the hospital, all orders will be despatched & received before Christmas Eve.

If for ANY reason this isn’t possible, we will email you to arrange a full refund. I will do my best to respond to any outstanding messages in the next 24 hours.

Please be bear with us whilst we attempt to navigate a heartbreaking situation that is truly every parents worst nightmare.

We’re not particularly religious, but your prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated for our sweet baby girl.

Our sweet girl made her entrance into the world on Sunday 5th September at 13.33, via emergency c-section, weighing in at 2lb 13oz.

We have a long road ahead, but this almost 2 month premature miracle is already breathing independently and is ‘coping beautifully’, much to the delight of her doctors and NICU team.
