Under the ongoing circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic, wherein half of the human population are confined to their homes, there are certain issues that have taken a more aggressive pace and the situation has become alarming.
One of the major issues in effect is Domestic Violence, the sudden surge in incidence of which cannot be ignored. Increasing number of cases are being detected all over India since the beginning of nationwide lockdown. Domestic violence is thus, a shadow pandemic taking place in the garb of lockdown. There are many who have been frequently subjected to various forms of violence and have internalized it as a cultural norm. The situation worsens if one looks at it in the context of all families staying together at all times due to the health pandemic, leaving no option for escape. There may not have been a more critical point when there's a dire need to help identify ourselves and others as victims if anyone is being subjected to various forms of abuse. There's a need to make the latent abuse visible and raise our voices against abusive family members.
