Thank you for having us !! You are such an impressively well-run group. We appreciate your thoughtful questions and had a fun time teaching vitals! We look forward to having APPHO’ers at future clinics! Special thanks to Kin and for sharing your journeys to med and pharmacy school and beyond —and for being all around amazing mentors at HHAB.
Update:
Thank you for all the well wishes, prayers, and love. Aside from the heart healthy diet restrictions, Dave has been in good spirits today. In 23+ years,I have never seen Dave eat a veggie burger. I did today. His reaction was just as I expected. 🤭 I like them. Oh, well.
I'll keep you posted.
Have a lovely week.

Hi HHAB friends and family,
Some of you may have heard, Dave has been in the hospital for a few weeks. This is a big week for him. Please send your thoughts and prayers and love his way. HHAB is s a big part of his life and he misses everything about it, except waiting in long lines at the border. Even that always seemed to turn into an adventure. :) Drop a hello. He reads messages on Facebook.
Love to you all. We miss you!!

Introducing HHABs newest board members - Vidal & Joey!!
Vidal is a PA-C practicing in orthopaedic surgery. He’s been part of HHAB since 2015 when he started volunteering as a postbacc student, often translating contributing to help providers communiciate with patients. Since becoming a licensed PA in 2021, Vidal has continued his commitment to caring for patients at HHAB as a provider volunteer. He also enjoys sharing teaching moments with students aspiring to pursue PA or medical school.
Joey is in his 7th year of volunteering with HHAB, spanning high school, college, and now during medical school at USC Keck. He’s a huge contributor at every clinic, has worked in every station, and is a fluent Spanish speaker. He makes every clinic all the better for everyone around him.
It was a unanimous decision to add Joey and Vidal to our Board!

Hello friends of HHAB!!! Happy 2023!!!
Huge thanks to all our volunteers for donating their time and talent this past year! Through their support, we held 14 clinics this year, seeing 50-80 patients per clinic on average.
Among the many accomplishments in 2022, we’d like to call out a few:
-We significantly improved access to diabetic medication, including insulin, along with continuing diabetic education and care, thanks to Dr. Kathryn Brewer. Diabetes is prevalent in this patient population, so this is a critical way we help our patients control and manage their health outcomes and quality of life.
-We revived our Nueva Aurora clinic post-COVID. We see children, families, elderly, expectant mothers, among others at this clinic, so we are thrilled and extremely proud to return and support this diverse patient population.
-We brought on 4 New Board Members this year – all of whom are stellar!!!!
Kameran Neises, PA-C
Petra Duran, Director of Patient Intake
Etty Goldstein, Treasurer
Bre Brobst, Secretary
And finally, a huge thank you to Anita Rodarte, who served as our incredible Treasurer and retired this year after 14 years w/HHAB. Thank you, Anita!!!!!
NEXT CLINICS are SAT, JAN 28TH & SAT, MARCH 11.
Signup on our website: http://www.hhab.org/volunteer.html
There are a limited # of spots, so it’s first come, first serve. Preference given to medical providers and Spanish speakers.
THANK YOU! MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Last trip of 2022! And we made it count with back-to-back clinics at Nueva Aurora and La Roca, made complete with a Taco Nazo lunch in between.
Dec '22 Clinic Stats:
66 adults and 67 children went through patient intake at Nueva Aurora. We treated URIs, asthma, a variety of dermatological conditions, and provided care for a handful of expectant mothers. Also provided insulin therapy and education for diabetic patients, along with continued monitoring and treatment for hypertensive patients.
At the La Roca Men’s clinic, 47 patients went through intake. We primarily treated URIs and provided continued care for diabetic and hypertensive patients, as well as a variety of orthopedic issues.
January 2023 clinic date posted later this month. Thank you to all our volunteers - we literally couldn’t do it without you!!!
Special thanks to for filling in as our much needed pediatrician! And shoutout to Kin and JC for driving the 3+ hours back across the border.
Happy Holidays from HHAB!
Getting caught up on posts here!
From Nov 2022:
Another successful trip! !!
47 patients were seen by providers, 90% of which were diabetic or pre-diabetic and received A1c testing. We also provided significantly more influenza and COVID testing given the uptick in URIs during fall & winter.

Hello to all friends of Healing Hearts across Borders. We are in the process of ramping up again post Covid, and are currently looking for providers for our August trip. This includes MDs, DOs, PAs, NPs, pharmacists, Dentists, RNs, etc and students aspiring to those careers. We especially need primary care practitioners and people who are fluent. I would like to especially reach out to our past volunteers who are now practicing in these areas and living in SoCal. Remember that personal statement in which you talked about helping the underserved? I do. Thank you in advance for your support. If necessary, remember how much fun we have.....

Stay tuned for more opportunities to volunteer with HHAB.
Hi HHAB volunteers and friends, I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe.
I want to share a volunteer opportunity available in the San Diego area. As many of you may have heard, San Diego is hosting the migrant children at the convention center. I am volunteering with a group that is assisting in the care of the children. Primarily, to help keep the children engaged. Ideally, we need approximately 100 volunteers per day. The shifts run about 3-4 hours each.
If you are interested please send an inquiry to [email protected]. Note, you will need to submit a volunteer application and fill out a background clearance packet that will be processed by the San Diego County. It may take up to 3-4 weeks to do the background check.
Thank you, Marilynn
