August slipped away into a moment in time… 🌞
… it really did, didn’t it?! I just can’t believe that both of my babies will officially be in preschool on Monday 🥹🍂.
I chose to stay home with both of my kids until they are 3.5 years old, so this beginning school year is going to be a big step and a huge change for our family! It really does go so fast and I am so grateful for all of the time I have been able to spend with my littles! What a gift ♥️.
One thing I am SO looking forward to this autumn is picking my children up from preschool, taking them to the park, flying kites with them, collecting conkers, and making chestnut people. It’s my favorite and it’s a constant that will be a treasured tradition of ours for the years to come…
Another thing my children are looking forward to each year is decorating our windows with little kite paper kites! They adore stringing up the little ribbons and making kites in their favorite colors 🤭. They’re so so easy to make and are the perfect window craft for little hands! Swipe for instructions 😍.
Make pumpkin (or apple) fairies with me 🤭 🍎
SAVE now, make later 😍♥️.
Directions:
1. Paint a set of female peg dolls with watercolors. Let dry completely.
2. Optional: apply a layer of real beeswax finish.
3. Cut out small wool felt pumpkins. You will need to equal halves per peg doll.
4. Use an embroidery needle and yarn to sew on ribs to the front halves of each pumpkin (I used a simple back stitch). Use hot glue to add a green stem and some vines.
5. Connect the two pumpkin halves with a blanket stitch. Stuff each pumpkin with wool roving. Be sure to leave the bottom of the pumpkin open to connect it to the peg dolls.
6. Connect the open bottom of the pumpkin to the peg doll with hot glue.
7. Use a black pen to add eyes.

Can I be honest with you for a bit ❤️? I sometimes don’t know how to show up here anymore! After being sick for several weeks, my story views, and engagement have gone way down… which is ultimately affecting my wee little business and is making me question my presence on this app 😥. I feel a bit discouraged at the moment…
Lately, I have also noticed that my instagram home feed seems to be becoming more and more monochromatic and fast paced… and I am honestly so saddened by it. I used to see fair folk, rainbows, fairy lights, and suns/moons all around (, , , , .roads , , .arrowsmith … and many more of my friends… I see you! 🌈) … their colors making me smile whenever refreshing my feed.
Please tell me that I am not the only one who misses this aesthetic? 🙈 What are your thoughts on this? Are the days of colorful posts over? Is it worth “paying” for higher engagement (this is apparently the latest update to this app)? What do you hope to see from me in the coming months?
🌞 DIY Candle Molds 🌞
Begin by oiling the inside of the aluminum cookie cutter. Any type of oil will work. Then, roll out a ball of play dough on a crafting surface. Place a sheet of cling wrap atop the rolled out play dough. Push the cookie cutter inside the cling wrap atop of the play dough. Place a wick inside the center of your candle. Gently pour the melted beeswax inside the mold and let it harden for a minimum of 30 minutes. Retrieve your new candle from inside the mold. Be sure to light the candle on a fireproof surface and never ever leave it unattended. You can also decorate your candle with modeling beeswax, if you like.
I have used this hack to make star candles at Christmas time, and bunny candles at Easter. It works so well, is affordable, and loads of fun.
You could even do this DIY with melted chocolate to make your own candy designs…
I love storks!!! We see them all the time now. Nesting on the rooftops in rural Bavaria. Waiting for the frogs to leap from the ponds in search of a mate. I am especially fond of the stark contrast between the beak’s orange and the white/black of they feather coat. What darling animals!!!!
I designed this transparency for our beautiful seasonal lamp from ! It fit perfectly and looks so pretty against the light source. You can, of course, use it as a window transparency as well (swipe to see). The best part… storks are white, so you won’t even have to cut out their feathers hehe.
Find it in my profile!!!! 🌞🤩
I love sitting on the floor, right beneath our windows. I lean against the warm glass and close my eyes imagining that I am somewhere else. Somewhere sunny and arid. A rocky shore, maybe, or a pine forest in the Mediterranean. I let the sun’s rays warm me and forget about the laundry for a moment. I forget about preparing dinner, emptying the dishwasher, and wiping the floor next to the kitchen trash can. It’s just me and the sun… for a tiny moment…
What is your favorite ‘tiny moment’ escape?! ❤️
Want to learn how to bring a little sunshine into your home?! I have included the tutorials for two of these window suns in my latest summer guide (‘in the garden’ 2024), which just so happens to be extra affordable at the moment. You can find it in my profile 🌞.
Cakes of May Day Past 💐
Happy May Day, sweet friends!! I hope your day is filled with blossoms, sunshine, and cold drinks! 🪻💐🫖
I wasn’t able to bake a Maypole cake this year as our family has been catching one virus after another. It’s been a couple of trying weeks for us. I was always “warned” of the first year of preschool… and it has certainly taken its toll on us ❤️. Well wishes are welcome 😢☺️.
Hot cross BUN(nie)S, am I right 🤭?!
I know, I know, “true” hot cross buns don’t come with sugar frosting (the cross is made of a mixture of flour and water), but, let’s be real, the frosting part tastes SO good 🙈. Anyone else?! 😅
Ps. How sweet is this DIY Easter rabbit house?! You can find a printable version of this little DIY Easter Countdown in my profile. And it’s 50% off at the moment (as is my entire shop) 😱
Want my recipe (I promise, it’s delicious):
1. Combine 3/4 sticks of melted butter with 1.25 cups of warm milk (milk of your choice). Add a package of active dry yeast.
2. Add 1/2 cup of brown sugar (or raw honey) as well as 1/4 t salt, 1 T of ground cinnamon, 1 T of molasses, 1/2 t of ground cloves, and 1 t of vanilla extract.
3. Add 4 cups of flour.
4. Add a handful of raisins.
5. Knead for a minimum of 10 minutes until warm, fluffy, and smooth.
6. Let dough rise for 1 hour.
7. Bake at 200 degrees Celsius for 10-15 minutes.
I haven’t done an introductory post in what seems like forever and there have been quite a few new faces around here lately… so I wanted to give you a quick idea as to who’s behind this account 🤭.
🫖
I love to drink tea… and I probably drink more than I should 😆. Seriously, tea time with my children is my favorite time of day and I would probably choose a proper afternoon tea over a sit down dinner.
🔎
I love a good murder mystery. Classic British who-dunits are my favorites! I read, listen to, and watch h mysteries all the time 🤭.
🐌
Natural history museums are my happy place. I love fossils and learning about Earth’s history… and I actually worked in a paleontology lab all throughout undergrad 🐚 .
🍃
We love going on adventures and are always busy collecting treasures. Botanical gardens, and rose gardens are among my favorite places to visit in the spring!
🏺
I studied Latin for nine years and love learning about ancient history.
🔥
We love preparing foods over an open flame. Chestnuts, flatbreads, stick bread, mulled wine… all the good things!
🎨
I really enjoy sharing whimsical and Waldorf inspired arts and crafts with all of my friends. It makes me so happy to see my projects come to life all over the world.
❤️❤️❤️
Tell me something about YOU.
❤️❤️❤️
On another note, have you checked out the Wild Family Guide yet (link in my bio)? It is unlike anything you have seen and packed with the most inspiring nature activities, crafts, and recipes. The bundle is only available at its reduced price of $16 for TWO weeks, so don’t miss out 😍❤️.
Ok, cat’s out of the bag 🤭… today, I will be sharing the real reason I didn’t include this favorite transparency design in my latest E-Book!! Read on below!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Drum roll please 🥁 … Me and a couple of my awesome friends have been secretly working on a super special and super exciting project: The Spring 2024 Wild Family Guide is HERE and it is ready to be shared with you!!!
In it, you will find a Waldorfy ‘pond life’ unit (from yours truly), as well as 100+ pages of engaging activities, captivating crafting projects, and thrilling adventure ideas (… of course, also including this favorite transparency design). Learn how to craft a vernal pool viewer, embark on an owl prowl, make butterfly lifecycle art, obtain information on hiking/ camping/ foraging with children, create enchanted forest dwellings and fairy abodes, learn how to needle felt springtime fairies, and SO MUCH MORE.
I’m going to be honest with you… when I first received the link to the final draft of this guide, I gasped… it’s THAT beautiful and also that USEFUL… which is what I look for the most when purchasing online resources.
As you can already see… I am VERY excited about this… and you can be, too!!!
Oh, and I think that printing out a copy for a dear mama friend would make for a lovely and super meaningful Easter- or Mother’s Day gift. Just sayin’ 😉.

🐇 Bunny Bread 🐇
My amazing sister-in-law bakes us loafs of bunny bread each Easter… and I wanted to try this out myself!
I made this sweet Easter Hare (because we all know that she is a woman 😉) for tomorrow’s tea time and I am so excited about her. I loved filling her basket with dyed eggs and can’t wait to see my kids’ faces tomorrow when we cut into this loaf.
What would you fill your children’s baskets with?! Tell me your favorite Easter finds below… we are still on the 👀 ⬇️
Full disclosure 😅… yesterday, I attempted baking a bunch of sweet little sleeping bunnies… and ended throwing away a batch of dense dough that wouldn’t rise and a batch of dinner rolls with ears… not my greatest work haha. But the rolls with ears ended up tasting quite yummy and we ended up eating them all.
Have you ever wasted an entire batch of yeast dough because it wouldn’t rise and simply didn’t “feel” right?! I felt SO bad about the food waste 😞. I just didn’t know what to do with it. I even tried tweaking it, but nothing worked. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do with an unsuccessful batch?
Anyways… Tuesdays are our Tea Time days these days, and they have become such a sweet spot in our week. We keep them small and simple, light a candle, sing a song, read a book, and share a delightful treat (some more successful than others 😅).
🧺 Super Simple Easter Baskets 🧺

Happy International Women’s Day, sweet friends ❤️. Mamas… let this little post be your reminder that it is YOU who brings the festivals and celebrations to life. It is YOU who invites the magic of Santa Claus and the Easter bunny into your home. And it is YOU who is the glue that holds everything together… thank you, mamas, for the incredible care work you do on a daily basis! ❤️
I first learned how to make these lovely Waldorf Easter baskets from a friend a couple of years ago. They are so easy to make and actually incredibly sturdy.
You will need “old” watercolor paintings for this craft.
Directions (swipe):
1. Brush each side of a watercolor painting with vegetable oil to make the paper translucent. Dry the painting for 2-3 hours.
2. On the left hand side make two 1/2 inch folds. This will be the handle.
3. Cut out the handle.
4. Divide (and fold) the remaining rectangle into thirds. Horizontally and vertically (you will be left with a checkered pattern).
5. Cut into the bottom folds to reveal six outer flaps.
6. Cut the central folds into triangles. You can use a ruler or fold them accordingly.
7. Cut three equal strips into each of the remaining 4 outer flaps. You can use a ruler or fold them accordingly.
8. Fold the flaps inward and tuck them behind the triangles. Attach with a stapler.
9. Attach the handle with a stapler!
Ps. For a tutorial of the little DIY felted chicks and handmade chocolate eggs, check out my two latest reels! I promise you won’t regret it!
I am genuinely so curious… how do you feel about gift giving on Valentine’s Day 💌💐? This year, in particular, I have seen so many reels about creating Valentine’s Day gift baskets for children, and I honestly don’t know how I feel about this idea. Like I totally get it… filling Easter baskets and filling my kids’ boots on St Nick day are among my favorite mom-duties of the year, but I am just not sure if we need yet another occasion for gift-giving… our society as a whole already has SO much stuff and I am wondering if these plentiful occasions of gift giving make each gift a little less meaningful? Again, I am not sure. If you are making Valentine’s Day baskets this year, that’s GREAT. I am sure they are beautiful and filled with love. If you, like me, are unsure about this new trend, that is GREAT as well. As always, there isn’t a “right” way to celebrate today. I’m really just curious about your personal input/ experiences? Tell me below ⬇️
Maybe I am just a bit old fashioned 😅. I still give my hubby one of those heart shaped boxes of chocolate for Valentine’s Day… and I baked sugar cookies with lemon icing for the kids. We also do a couple of crafts and celebrated this morning with a special teatime 🫖 🌸.
Happy Love Day, sweet friends ❤️.
Hope is a snowdrop ❄️🌱
Have you noticed any first signs of spring yet? 🌱🪻
It’s been so grey and drizzly these past few days! I think that my spring-loving heart is really starting to long for a couple of blooms and blossoms 😅.
To be honest, I still haven’t bought any bulbs or flowers yet... for some reason, I usually try and hold off until the middle of February before purchasing those pretty springtime baskets. I think that I just don’t want to allow myself to get too excited about spring when it is still winter outside haha 😅 ... but, this year, I do feel like, maybe, tomorrow will be the day to grab a couple of hyacinths or daffodils! 🤷♀️.
What about you? Are you ready for spring? Comment with your favorite springtime emojis 💐🌼🌷🌱🌸
Can I let you in on a little secret?! 🌈🎨
While I do believe that the right equipment is important when painting with watercolors, I don’t think that a ton of money needs to be spent when it comes to creating a meaningful wet-on-wet painting session. My family actually doesn’t own those beautiful, vibrant Stockmar watercolor paints that come in the little plastic containers ( let me know, if you are interested in a little collaboration 😉). Instead, we have two basic Stockmar Watercolor Paint Boxes… and I have to say that I really adore these colors as well! They are also super vibrant and, if applied, properly super opaque. For watercolor paper, we use XL Watercolour Pads (not sponsored, we buy it ourselves).
Wet-on-wet painting is a painting process that is commonly employed in Waldorf classrooms, kindergartens, or homeschooling families. Here, a sheet of watercolor paper is submerged in a shallow tub filled with warm water. Once the paper has been saturated, it is retrieved from the tub and padded with a sponge. The paper should still be moist, but not dripping wet. The watercolors are then applied with a large brush and the colors are able to come together in unique and vibrant ways. Once dry, the corners of the paper are rounded off to evoke a dream-like, continuously flowing aesthetic.
Want to join me in painting spring blossoms this week?! Use hashtag , so I can see and share your pretty creations 🌱💐🌷🪻🌸.
Do you believe in magic?! 🪄
I first heard the term “Waldorf Magic” from my friend when I was pregnant with Emma in 2019. While I had a basic understanding of Waldorf early childhood education and was familiar with some of its quintessential requisites, I didn’t truly encompass the “magic” behind it until I got the opportunity to step into a Waldorf parent-child class in late 2020. I was immediately enticed by the colors, smells, and even the sounds that filled the rose colored classroom with their presence. Everything was soft, gentle, and sweet. Tiny fair folk covered in colorful woolen cloaks lined the wooden shelves of cabinets and arches, and a hand rolled beeswax candle was lit in the center of an elongated table decked with tiny cutting boards and small batches of fresh baked dough. The teacher sang a gentle baking song and I was filled with both a sense of wonder and utter peace. This was it. The magic. Everything, and I mean everything was thought out so carefully, every element was select and meaningful, each child was seen as the little fairy being it was.
Over time, I memorized some of my favorite verses, learned about mealtime blessings, and started writing my own poems and stories. I started using a candle snuffer, hand rolled beeswax candles with my children, taught myself how to felt, and started hand making toys. I brought little tiny moments of magic into our everyday and have not gone back since. My children adore these precious little moments, filled with candlelight, a drop of essential oil, or a crystal in their palm. It’s not much, but it’s their memories to keep. A scent, a color, a sound… brought to them by “Waldorf Magic”.
What is your favorite ritual in the home? Tell me ⬇️.
Ps. Weaving with wool roving is MAGIC, too (swipe for my process and view step-by-step instructions in the comment section below).
Thank you all so much for allowing me to be vulnerable in this space ❤️. Your kind words under my last post truly resonated with me and I feel so encouraged and seen by you!! What a lovely community this is!!!
Let’s keep this conversation going, shall we? ❤️
Before delving into another topic, I wanted to clarify that it’s not that I dislike reels… I actually admire many reel-centric accounts and I absolutely do appreciate them for showcasing lovely pieces of art or processes in real time. It’s just that, for me, they are not an authentic representation of my personal home and the homemade resources that fill our shelves and windows.
I, personally, make my crafts and homemade toys for and with my children (see image 2), which is a basically impossible task for me when filming a reel. Filming requires some sort of camera set-up, an entirely unfinished craft, and recording the crafting process beneath the above mentioned set-up. Doing all of this while simultaneously supporting my children in their art making and crafting process is super difficult for me (I am not alone in this, am I 🙋♀️?).
I honestly prefer taking a photo of my process here and there, while being fully present throughout the creation process. And not just for my children… but also for my own enjoyment of the task at hand 😅.
Besides, I have so many ideas for future content that simply aren’t “reel worthy”- not quick and easy, but rather those “Waldorfy” projects that require painting, drying, and various steps that aren’t fun to watch on camera 😅.
So, here I am again, posting yet another simple project from my home- in picture form 😅. I guess I’m a rebel now haha.
Thank you for much for being here… thank you for chiming in… and thank you for loving on my old school picture projects. Means so much!
X Franzi
Ps. If you want to make your own fairy pop-up card, simply swipe for some process photos (my kids did the watercolor painting for the background), ask me any questions you might have in the comments section, and head on over to my profile to download my printable pop-up fairies… 🧚🏾
I’m going to get really vulnerable here for a second. I was very torn about even sharing this little project with you all today, because, to be honest, I am feeling a little lost in this space lately (I know that many of my creator friends feel the same way…). It used to be so much fun simply posting a sweet little picture of a sweet little project, but with reels taking over on this app, a pretty art project simply doesn’t seem to cut it anymore 😔. And to be entirely transparent with you all, making reels is incredibly time consuming and requires expensive videography equipment, which I do not possess. So yeah… I truly miss sharing my “old” content with you all.
Anyways… here is a little snowdrop lantern I made for my children today. Snowdrops have my heart… and I love this time of year! They are such fragile and tender little creatures.
Wishing you all a blessed imbolc and a few rays of sunshine! 🌱
