A conversation I was having this morning with a client:
“I’ve been down this road before, I know how it ends. I know that I’m going to get on a diet and then stop eventually. I want to stop dieting but I’m scared I’ll just eat and eat and eat and gain weight”
It’s okay to be scared to go against what most people in society are doing! Your fears are valid ❤️
Make sure you can work with a professional who can help you process through your concerns and help you do the hard work of unlearning and ditching diet culture for good!!

When I first became an RD I decided right away that my focus was going to be on weigh-inclusive, ethical, non-diet care. I am lucky enough to say that I have helped people improve their relationship with food and their bodies. I am even luckier to say that I have helped folks heal from an eating disorder. I feel so fortunate that my work makes a difference and improves lives. It’s a cliche but - some RDs really do make this world a better place 🌎

Food for thought 🍭
Teaching your kids how to have a healthy relationship with ALL foods can absolutely go hand in hand with teaching them about health, satisfaction and balance
Instead of making them fear certain foods because “they’re bad for you”, teach them the different roles that various foods have
Some foods give you energy quickly, some foods help you fee full longer, some foods help your muscles grow, etc.
Teach kids how to approach foods with curiosity rather than judgment and fear 🍫
Gentle reminder that you if you’re an adult, you need more than 1200 kcal to function ❤️

Why are you still dieting?
I know there’s a lot of reasons why and I understand it’s complicated
All I’m gonna say is that dieting IS harmful for health
Not everyone who diets develops an eating disorder but MOST people with an eating disorder have a history of dieting
Please, work with a non-diet and HAES-aligned professional who is credentialed to help support you in your health and wellness goals
We just want to see you happy and healthy. Diet culture wants your money and that’s pretty much it…

Magical things happen when you give yourself permission 🥇
🍕 If you don’t allow yourself to fully have access to a food AND enjoy it without guilt 👉🏼 you’re not going to feel satisfied and you will go on a scavenging hunt of food that might “hit the spot”
A way to avoid all of that is to just HAVE the food you want, without any limits or mental tormenting
🍕But how??? 🍕
You will likely need to work on:
1) fighting your food police and silencing them
2) breaking your food rules down and challenging them
3) thought reframing via fact-checking
4) planned food exposures in a safe manner

This is probably the most common issue that I work on with my own clients.
In order to break this cycle, you have to start at the top - Restriction 🍽
Unless you stop restricting, cravings will continue to build up and potentially escalate into a binge.
OKAY BUT HOW DO I STOP RESTRICTING?

Denying a craving will only intensify that craving 🙄
Let’s say it’s 6 PM on a Wednesday night and you’re craving a warm and delicious grilled cheese sandwich.
You’re afraid of making that because that’s “too much” so you eat a salad. That doesn’t satisfy you. You eat crackers. Still not satisfied. You keep snacking. Still…all you can think about is that sandwich 🧀 Sooo you finally make it.
The point of this story is to tell you that honoring your cravings, no matter how scary they are, will only serve you in the long-run ❤️
