Hi, I'm Mish - a metal detectorist, treasure hunter and explorer from Australia!

Unearthing an American Relic in Australia! (Metal Detecting) 07/07/2024

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a good weekend!

Just passing through to let you know that I've popped up another adventure with The Coffee Bush Kid. This was filmed a few months back - I'm still living life mostly offline, but there will be more adventures to come here and there.

Take care, and I'll catch you on the next adventure... cheers. 😊

Unearthing an American Relic in Australia! (Metal Detecting) and I return to a place where we have found plenty of relics with our metal detectors, and amongst the usual shenanigans I unearth a symbol...

Not all Good Finds are Metal! (Detecting with The Coffee Bush Kid) 26/04/2024

Come and join The Coffee Bush Kid and I on this previously unreleased metal detecting adventure from winter 2023! We've returned to the place where I found my first pocket watch in search of more treasures, and I come across a stunning surface find, one of my favourite non-metal finds to date.

Come and join The Coffee Bush Kid and I as we go on a rare evening treasure hunt with our metal detectors - who will win the Great Corset Fastener War of 2024... and what ultimate bucket list item of mine did I find along the way, without even realising it at the time? (Link in comments)

A sneak peek from the next adventure, detecting with a mate.

A bucket lister is coming.

Stay tuned. 😎

Hello from the middle of nowhere 😊

I’m out prospecting and camping for the long weekend - and it’s a scorcher out here! I’ve been filming bits and pieces of it, so hopefully you’ll get to see how the trip goes in time. The Bluetti EB3A is keeping all of my detecting, filming & communication gear topped up.

It should go without saying, but if you’re camping out bush in the regions with high or extreme fire danger this weekend, ensure that you have a fire plan in place and that someone knows exactly where you are.

That’s it from me - back to some much needed R&R.

Enjoy your weekend 👌⛏️

My GPX had barely been pulled out of its packaging at the time of filming!

Unveiling My New Minelab GPX 6000! 02/03/2024

I thought about scheduling this vid.. but nah, let's put something up straight away, shall we?

This was Day 2 of learning to wield my new Minelab GPX 6000, I'd only used it for a few hours prior to this video (and this was also my first day with my pick!), so expect to see plenty of rookie moves.

The Coffee Bush Kid and I only lasted a few hours in this location before the 34-degree heat sent us packing - but that's okay, the practice paid off the next time we went out...

Enjoy. :)

Quietly chuffed that I’ll get to share an episode with this!

Nice one The Coffee Bush Kid & Jamie 😁

One thing I hadn’t considered when I started to dabble with gold prospecting, how I was going to keep and display my gold.

The lovely Jen of Chicks with Picks Australia showed us some amazing pieces from her collection on a recent outing, and they were displayed in a box from Sharon’s Gold Boxes. Sharon hand-makes all sorts of display boxes for gold (I imagine you could use them for smaller relic finds as well), and has many types of wood and felt colours to choose from.

So last weekend, I reached out to Sharon and bought one in a walnut finish, with CWP purple felt — how amazing does it look! 💜

The last pic shows my finds from the CWP ladies’ day out which I didn’t film - I’ve found some more bits before this, but their video isn’t out yet. 😉

Time to make some more prospecting plans and work on filling it up… ⛏️

(Not an ad - just a happy customer 😊)

The Minelab Metal Detector Show - Episode 164 28/02/2024

I'll be making an appearance on the Minelab Show hosted by Miners Den Australia this evening :) Come watch me (via YouTube) being a newbie again with my GPX 6000!

EDIT: Just a quick little snippet near the tail end of the show, talking about the Avantree headset - but keep your eyes peeled, I'll be hunting for gold on there next week!! ;)

Treated myself a lil’ something from Detect-Ed Metal Detecting last week, and it arrived today! 🛍️

This 13x11” coil is the largest available for the Deus II, and will be great for ground coverage on open, flat beaches. I’ll still use the 9” coil for most other situations such as parks, rocky terrain and bushland.

It took me a long time to decide between the 13x11” and the 11” round coil, hopefully I’ve made the right choice for me. 😉

I also have the pleasure of testing out the Detect-Ed lower carbon fibre shafts with both coils - these eliminate the wobble experienced while swinging the standard plastic shafts, I have already noticed increased stability with the 9” coil and expect I’ll have similar results with this monster as well.

I’ll let you know how it goes. 😊

(PS. The carbon shafts are a Detect-Ed branded product - so you’ll get a discount if you use my code DIRTFISHMISH 😉)

I found my first handmade spoon ring while detecting yesterday, but I (cough) “can’t” show it to you fully, on account of the hand-engraved message inscribed on the top which may be considered both an insult and a term of endearment in Aussie slang.

I don’t know how I feel about finding this. 🤣

07/02/2024

Absolutely loved watching this, check out the moment Lee (Savage Prospecting) found this absolute stonker of a gold nugget.

Congrats mate, living the dream.

Did you know that the folks at Detect-Ed Metal Detecting have just released their very own beach detecting scoop? I bought mine as soon as they released last week, and yesterday I had my first chance to test it out on a beach!

The extra long tapered shape was great for quickly skimming the surface layers of sand off the top of a deep target, so that I could hear it better. There’s even a magnet built into the back of the scoop for sticking to ferrous items for quick identification and removal from the scoop, and a handle for carrying the scoop over your shoulder or flipping the scoop to empty it out.

Lastly, the scoop can be easily unbuckled from the carbon fibre shaft for cleaning and transport, no more issues trying to squish my scoop into the back of my small car after a hunt. 😁

I’m very glad I made this purchase and highly recommend checking them out to see if it is right for you (watch the video on the product page!) - don’t forget that the discount code DIRTFISHMISH applies to all Detect-Ed and Croc Magnets branded items. 😉

Pictured: my second target on the scoop’s test run, an old silver ring which was a clear 45 signal on the Nokta Legend. It was the first of two silver rings that day…and yes, I found my coffee money as well. 😁☕️

I don’t think the links carry over from Instagram, so here’s the scoop (so to speak 😂) - use code DIRTFISHMISH:

It sure has been a while since I've done this. 😊 Let's go on a calm metal detecting adventure in the goldfields, searching for some coins and relics with the XP Deus II. Just wait until you see the stunning coin that welcomed me back... (link in comments)

Link in comments — just wanted to share that I made a sneaky little cameo appearance on YT channel Pete’s Gold Adventures!

Come join Pete, Andrew (The Coffee Bush Kid) and myself as Pete kindly invites us over to one of his patches to see if we can find some gold.

I was a little camera-shy as I was focused on learning my new machine, but rest assured that I did have a camera with me and that I will be showing my (very special) side of the story in time. 😊

15/01/2024

Three GPX 6000’s, owned by three content creators. Can you recognise any of them?

Some sneaky cameo appearances (and perhaps even a video of my own, eventually) are coming soon. 😉

My first silvers of the year have been found on the beach, and while they’re quite worn, one of them is actually a first for my collection. 😊

Starting off strong.. my very first silver for 2024 is a Florin - can’t tell if British or Aussie, but the monarch is George V - identified by the very tip of his beard and a couple of visible letters on the obverse. Circa 1911-1936.

The second silver - which I thought was also a Florin until I unpacked my finds bag tonight - turned out to be slightly larger than a Florin coin! I can see a rough outline of George V on the obverse (no details left on reverse), which combined with the size of the coin makes this a British Half Crown, also 1911-1936. This is the very first half crown I’ve found in the wild so despite the condition, I’m pretty happy to add it to the collection.

The last coin has some remnants of Edward VII on it, making it a British Penny, 1902-1910.

Sometimes identifying the coins is half the fun 😊 Happy hunting.

(PS. The extra coins underneath the three finds in the group shot were for size comparison purposes, and not found on this hunt. I did however find coffee money, the winder from a fishing reel, sinkers and an old pocket knife.)

07/01/2024

Just emptied my finds pouch of the last detecting session of 2023 - it was a night session, and while I knew about the first two silvers, I didn’t realise I’d actually picked up four - the 1916 threepence (second silver coin in shot) had a mintage of less than two million coins produced.

I wonder what the first hunt of 2024 will bring?

03/01/2024

Another bit of the gold kit is sorted.

I’ve always wanted a pick from Stumpy picks ever since the days of watching Minelab Gold on the ‘tube (oh-ho!) but never had an ideal machine to pair with it until now - how cool is the personalised handle? 💜

Can’t wait to break it in… on a million pieces of lead shot, maybe even a piece of gold if I’m lucky. 😆⛏️

Hey folks, long time no see. Hope you’re all doing well. 😊

Thanks to everyone that’s left me a comment over recent months to check in. Not gonna lie - the second half of 2023 hit me like a truck, and I’m also not afraid to admit that I’ve still got a long road ahead to get back to my old self. I won’t be putting pressure on myself to make videos anytime soon.

But, things are looking up. I’m back out detecting after a few months off, some holiday plans are in place…

…oh, and I finally bought that Minelab GPX 6000. 😉

Special thanks to the team at Miner’s Den for the exceptional customer service on both my machine and the Nuggetfinder Xceed 12x7 coil. I can’t wait to wrap my head around the gold prospecting side of the detecting fence. 😊⛏️

May 2024 be everything you wish for, take care everyone. Cheers 💜

Thank you for all the lovely words re: my latest video... I have read all of your comments as they've come through. Absolutely floored at the support and positivity I've received.

I promise I'll at least include you in on a life update here and there in the future, maybe I'll pop up in the background of another creator's video, maybe I'll attend an expo or event... who knows what the future may hold, but for now I'm absolutely going to step back and enjoy some time off. :)

Thanks for being so awesome. 💜

Goodbye.. for now. 05/10/2023

This was hard to make, but before you worry - I am OK and will be OK, I'm just not in the position to keep going with videos for the time being. The linked video will give you a little insight. 😊

Thank you to my beautiful community for being what you are, always so supportive and I've had many messages checking in on me as well. I am so grateful for you all.

Goodbye.. for now. There's been a lot on my plate lately, and I'm making the tough decision to step down from making metal detecting videos for the foreseeable future. This vi...

Detecting a Mini Backyard Permission with the XP Deus II! 31/08/2023

Hey friends, it has been a little while. I hope you're all doing well. 😊

I'm still slowly trying to make my way back to YouTube, and while life seems to keep on throwing curveballs in my general direction, I do hope you enjoy this relaxing mini permission site that I checked out recently.

At this stage I'm hoping to get a video back up every couple of weeks or so, not necessarily on my usual schedule as there's just too much going on to film regularly, but enough for you to know that I'm still here. Hopefully I can get back into a regular rhythm by Summer. I miss you all! 😊

Enjoy.

Hi folks, I've popped up another adventure with The Coffee Bush Kid that we went on a little earlier in the year on YouTube - I hope you enjoy it.

I'm having some much-needed family time over the next few weeks so please don't be alarmed if I post and comment less than usual - I'll be super keen to take you on more adventures when it is the right time to do so.

Take care of one another, and I'll catch you on the next adventure. :)

Hi folks, I was hoping to have a live chat premiere of tonight’s video (in a few hours) on YouTube but I have to tend to an urgent private matter. 😞

So the video will appear at the usual time, 9pm AEST but without the live chat sorry - enjoy the video though, it’s an absolutely cracking beach hunt!!

Take care and have a lovely weekend. 😊
