I feel acquiring one of my retired show dogs or an older puppy is a privilege.

Show dogs are regular dogs. In fact, most show dogs are better socialized, better behaved, and less reactive than most 'normal' dogs. And you don't have to take my word for it - ask a vet what they think.

2023 was officially my fifteenth anniversary in minis since my first two girls celebrated their 15th birthdays. Downsizing from standards was one of my better life choices . My bred by boy Max became a top producer, currently the sire of 7 champions. I finished his daughter Covet , went to PCA for the first time in ages , and had a blast showing with friends in Texas ! Now I'm patiently waiting on our first puppies since 2020 and hoping for some nice prospects to go forward with. Happy 2024 to everyone ,I hope it treats you well ❤️

Dog Athlete of the Month: Melinda and Tate Conquer Dog Sports – American Kennel Club For Melinda, her Miniature Poodle Tate is both her service dog and her AKC sports teammate. Tate has helped her through her medical issues while competing.

Despite the Poodle’s association with France, the breed originated as a duck hunter in Germany, where the word “pudelin” refers to splashing in water. The Standard Poodle began its development as a retrieving water dog more than 400 years ago. With a crisp, curly coat as protection against the elements, superlative swimming ability, and off-the-charts intelligence, the Poodle was, and still is, a magnificent retriever. (The Standard and Miniature varieties are classified as a non-sporting dog and are eligible for AKC Retriever and Spaniel Hunting Tests).

The flamboyant Poodle show coat served a practical purpose in the breed’s early years. Hunters wanted their dogs to have free range of movement in the water, but they also wished to protect vital areas of the anatomy from the cold. They shaved the legs, neck, and tail but left the chest, hips, and leg joints coated. The rounded tufts on the legs, hips, and tail tip are called pompons. (Note the spelling: Cheerleaders have pom-poms; Poodles have pompons.)
