I captured this photo of Brookfields Bridge on January 11, 2023, after Cyclone Hale had passed through the Hawkes Bay region. Only a month later, Cyclone Gabrielle destroyed it, along with many others and taking countless lives, on February 13, 2023.
Brookfields Bridge, Tutaekuri River.
Took a look at the Tukituki River and was not disappointed!
Happy to be featured in this News Hub article with my photos of flooded rivers after Cyclone Hale.

The final work in my Ersatz Waipatiki series, this piece shows what Waipatiki is best known for, it’s beach and coastline. This work takes hold of Waipatikis biggest draw, the coastline, and manipulates and transforms it into a beautiful, mandala like structure using my kaleidoscopic-esque process to create a mesmerising work.

Ersatz Forestry. This works looks at an important part of Waipatikis ecosystem, the forestry industry that dominates the area, from the journey to the cliff tops . This work was created for my final year bachelor exhibition being showcased at Ideaschool’s 2021 Art Festival!

This was the second ever concept piece I did for my “Equilibrium” series at what now feels like an eternity ago. Loving where the creation of this work has led me and is always in my mind as I’m creating new works!

Ersatz III - Forestry
Sept 2021

Looking at more methods of playing around with my shots in unconventional ways. This piece turned out great and quite unexpected as it is a drastic shift to the usual top down drone shots that make these works so unique.

Equilibrium III
•
This was one of the very first works I did in this series, and inspired the general direction for the project. The nature of turning what, as an original image, was a simple photo of the planks of wood on a dock, into something that resembles an equally manufactured object that was crucial to the development of humankind as earths dominant species, into something as simple as a wheel like object is quite meaningful. These works use the idea of taking a natural material, such as wood, that has been manufactured in same way, then converting it once more into something new, speaking on mankind’s irreversible effect on our planet and its resources.

‘Equilibrium V’
2021
This work started as a macro shot of a bic lighter being lit. The frozen sparks are of note to me, the idea that the cracks are unique, and are only here thanks to taking a photograph of them is quite intriguing. A unique moment, barely visible to the naked eye, frozen in time.
‘Equilibrium IV’
2021
A different perspective on a common structure. Napier’s waterfront pier is normally shot at ‘golden hour’ with beautiful golden skies. In reality, the pier is usually seen with cloudy skies. This perspective shows what it would be like to look down the pier as a small bug, with the reflections representing a multi faceted view.
In love with discovering little planet panoramas! 😯
I took the original photo on the way back in 2017, giving it new life in this way is exhilarating!
