Colossal Craig⁣

Craig, the Super Tusker, is one of the last of his kind. To be classified a super tusker, an elephant has to have tusks weighing more than 45kg / 100Ibs each. Very few populations still carry the genes for such huge tusks, and the individuals that do grow them are extremely vulnerable to poaching for their ivory. It is due to the hard work of KWS, Big Life and others that Craig has reached the ripe old age of 50 and can safely roam the Amboseli ecosystem.⁣

Despite their size, leopards have the incredible ability to climb trees. They will often use them as a location to store their prized kills, out of reach of any prying scavengers, but also to seek some shade during the heat of the day away from flies and other insects that might be on the ground.⁣

The last two northern white rhinos left on Earth.⁣

Ol Pejeta is home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos, Najin and her daughter Fatu, who are sadly not able to carry a rhino calf to term.⁣

The future of this subspecies now lies in the development of in vitro fertilisation techniques and stem cell technology, which is not only expensive, but has never before been attempted in rhinos.⁣

Journey to the End of the Earth⁣

Namibia's Skeleton Coast is 500 kilometres of virtually uninhabited and untamed coastline. Animal bones and shipwrecks are scattered across its endless strands, and lions, hyenas and other predators wander the shore in search of maritime meals. If you are lucky, you may even spot an elephant wading into the waters, where off-shore 11 shark species are waiting.⁣

Definitely one for the bucket list.⁣

But in 2008 a series of reintroductions began to reunite her with her own kind, and now her pride and legacy has grown to 14 individuals.⁣

Deadvlei, the dead marsh⁣

The dead trees here are around 1,000 years old, but due to the dry climate they haven’t decomposed. Their black silhouettes against the clear blue sky, rusty-red dunes and bleached-white salt pans make the area a photographers dream. Definitely a must see when visiting Namibia.⁣

Rare Elephant Twins!⁣

An elephant in Samburu National Reserve, Kenya has given birth to twins.⁣

"The survival of the twins depends very much on the quality of the grass and vegetation and the experience of the matriarch. This mother has had a successful experience of raising a calf before, and the fact that it has rained recently means the grass is green in Samburu, and gives the little twins a greater chance of survival... We have to cross our fingers, but we are cautiously hopeful."⁣
