*LGBT+ Healthcare; An Inclusive Curriculum Survey*

The LGBT+ Medics and Allies Society are running a survey to capture your views on the LGBT+ healthcare content of the curriculum. This survey will feed into a wider piece of research which will also include focus groups to be ran later in the calendar year. The findings of this research will inform the future work of the society with the university and may be included in the development of academic papers. Sharing your pronouns, if you are comfortable doing so, is a really great way to help trans, non-binary and gender fluid members of our community feel more validated and safe!

Happy Nonbinary Awareness Day ! 💛

Non-binary refers to anyone whose gender identity does not fit within the binary categories of man or woman.

It is a very broad term and covers a range of people who may identify as: having masculine and feminine parts, or neither - may identify as trans, may not - may have changing gender presentation, may have no gender - and so much more !

Nonbinary people have always existed in all cultures throughout history.

Being nonbinary is not a trend!!!

Happy Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day Everyone!!! 💖💛💙

Today is a day to celebrate the advances made by the pansexual and panromantic communities whilst also keeping in mind the work that still needs to be done.

Pansexuality comes under the Bi+ umbrella and some pansexual people also regard themselves as bisexual.

Most of the LGBT+ community is made up of bi/pan people but they are often forgotten about and neglected in our activism. It’s time this ended, as members of the LGBT+ community, or as allies, we need to raise up voices of bi/pan people and work against their erasure.

There are some really great resources online and we recommend using them today to learn more about pansexuality and the experiences of pansexual people. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Today is IDAHOBIT - International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia! ✨

May 17th was specifically chosen to commemorate homosexuality being declassified as a mental disorder by the WHO in 1990. But it's also a reminder that there's still much discrimination faced, particularly for our trans and intersex community members.

Today serves as inspiration to keep pushing for equality, and to remind everyone to keep working together towards making sure every LGBTQ+ person feels loved and supported!

The Color Purple is an amazing portrayal of intersected feminism, suppression, slavery, violence, passion and romance.

The main character's struggle to own her sexuality by overcoming the lack the language to define it and the freedom to explore it is such an empowering read. It will teach you so much more than you will realise.

MOONLIGHT

A review from a member of committee:

Moonlight is of the most extraordinary and heart-wrenching films that I’ve ever seen. The Oscar winning film shows a unique exploration of poverty, queerness, masculinity, and Blackness, all woven together to show a complex life. The cinematography is superb too and makes for a beautiful film - I can’t recommend this film enough!

Marsha P. Johnson was an LGBT+ and AIDS activist, and drag queen. Marsha was one of the prominent figures of the Stonewall uprising as well as an icon in New Yorks LGBT+ and art scene, even modelling for Andy Warhol.

Marsha and their friend Sylvia Rivera, another LGBT+ activist, founded an organisation: STAR - Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries. STAR supported gay and trans individuals who had been left homeless.

Marsha was known for their kind heart, being nicknamed the Saint of Christopher Street (the street were the Stonewall Inn is found).

The Admiral Duncan attacks

Red, White & Royal Blue is a brilliant fiction novel involving Alex, the First Son of the President of the United States, and Henry, a Prince of England. Casey McQuiston a non-binary, bisexual author has done an incredible job in writing this YA novel, a genre which is heavily saturated with cis-gender, heterosexual relationships, bringing the much needed representation to our bookshelves!

“It's so refreshing to read a book that not only involves an LGBTQ+ relationship at the heart of it, but also involves further representation through additional characters, and also involves a biracial first son and female President. This book involve romance, politics, and quite a bit of steam... ”
