GENDER THING Group
How do you create a Gender Thing?
Pushing, moving, thinking, making, processing, melting, sticking ideas of practice into bodies, others, objects, tools, machines: THINGS.
We want more opportunities to engage with buzzwords such as: intersectionality, performativity, participation, collaboration, collectivity, non-binary, q***r, (cyber)feminism, body politics, safe spaces, normativity, cis/transgender, consent, identity....
What do these words mean to you? How does gender inform your experience of creative practice? How do you think about gender in your institution and artwork; your research and creativity?
We are a welcoming and collaborative group of people based at ECA, wanting to explore Gender Things in an accessible, practical and enjoyable exchange of thoughts and experiences. We are looking for interested people with a wide range of perspectives, ideas and backgrounds to join us. Although we are presently an academic-led initiative, this is an open space to all and there is no prior experience required. Currently, we meet for weekly discussion, aiming to expand into a broad series of events and activities, so that we can share our findings/makings/THINGS with a public audience.
We are meeting Thursday 21st September, 1-2pm. Alison House, Nicolson Square, Lecture Room A. Let’s think about Gender & Art for our first meeting.
