Nearly 7 years ago, Moses White’s son and the Moses White Foundation’s Founder Andre Moses White felt compelled to record a song focused on patriotism and bringing our country together. “We’re Americans” was the result of his passion and hard work. Please enjoy this anthem of love for our country and fellow man as we celebrate our veterans. Feel free to download it from any streaming service and/or donate to the Moses White Foundation to support vocational scholarships. Enjoy.

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
Thank you to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King for his love and commitment to fairness and justice. In your spirit, we at the Moses White Foundation strive to create the world you fought for and we hope to do you proud.
By most accounts, 2020 has been a challenging year and leaves us looking forward to what the new year brings.
This year, The Moses White Foundation and family lost our Founder Andre Moses White. He and his wife Joyce Dupree White both passed away from COVID 19. The Moses White Foundation was initially his idea, as he loved his Tampa, Florida community and appreciated all that it gave to him. The Moses White Foundation was was one of Andre’s ways of giving back to the community that reared him. Through the foundation Andre hoped to improve the lives of Tampa’s most vulnerable and under served. And now, the Foundation is his legacy. We continue to mourn the loss of Andre and Joyce, and will forever appreciate his leadership, inspiring vision and determination to make a difference. Tampa, Florida’s Moses White proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Later, when he opened the Deluxe Cosey Corner, he created one of Tampa’s first “credit card” systems for military stationed at Macdill Air Force Base, Florida to be able to eat and drink between pay days. On this Memorial Day, we thank Moses White and all our military and their families for their sacrifice and service.
Thank you Jane Castor. We are proud to continue the legacy and work of Moses White and many other leaders.
Throughout our nation’s history, African Americans have played a key role in shaping our democracy. African American history is part of the pulse of Florida and this great city. Their contributions echo down through centuries and can be seen on every corner of Tampa. They laid the tracks for our streetcars, loaded freight along the Garrison Channel, and used brick and mortar to build the Tampa Bay Hotel.
During Tampa’s formative years, women like Blanche Armwood and Clara Frye heeded the call to teach our youth and heal the sick. Their work to make Tampa better was never forgotten.
Tampa has been gifted with the business acumen of George S. Middleton, C. Blithe Andrews, G.D. Rogers, and Moses White. Besides running successful companies here in Tampa, these leaders never turned their backs on the community. For them, civic engagement was a natural part of doing business.
Our City is also built on incredible progress of Civil Rights leaders like Robert W. Saunders, who fought for the rights of African Americans and championed the desegregation of schools, public beaches, housing, and more. Because of the trailblazers that came before us, Tampa embraced its diversity, and we must continue following the path they set for a more inclusive city.
Until the early 1970s, Central Avenue was Tampa’s black business and entertainment district; the sounds of jazz and the blues poured out of Watt Saunderson’s Blue Room, the Cotton Club and many other establishments. Central Avenue was the place Ray Charles and the Adderley Brothers kicked off their careers. It was the place where James Brown and Cab Callaway came to get down. And when the night was through, they would rest at the Jackson House.
Landmarks like the Jackson House are a cultural treasure in our community. And it’s thanks to a generous contribution from people like Jeff Vinik and many others, that we can work diligently to identify ways to restore and honor the rich history that came before us.
We are proud to continue championing our dynamic African American community that continues to shape our city each and every day.
