Michelle Christy
12/19/1967 ~ 10/18/2020 (age 52)
She was born on December 19, 1967 in Keokuk, the daughter of Ronnie Fox and the late Betsy K. (Cole) Fox. She married Terry Christy on October 21, 1989 in Canton and he survives. Michelle was a family-oriented person with a colorful spirit. She was the most amazing mother to Trey and Brittany and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She liked rock hunting, listening to music, doing yard work and being outdoors. Michelle liked to keep house and was very particular and orderly. She looked forward to visiting with her brother Scott nearly every night. She and her sister Misty would bicker back and forth over the telephone (Michelle was right no matter what). She loved her cats and enjoyed looking after them.
Besides her mother, Michelle was preceded in death by nine children; Trevor, Tanner, Taylor, Hunter, Gunnar, Tru, Tristan, Tell and Taitton, a brother; Albert “Albie” Fox, a step son; Justin Christy, her father in law; Leroy Christy, her grandparents; Dean & Betty Phillips, Bert Hodges and Albert & Eva Fox.
Besides her husband Terry, Michelle is survived by her father; Ronnie Fox of Canton, a son; Trey Levi Christy (Eternity Dunn) of Hamilton, Illinois, a daughter; Brittany Renee Christy (Keith Snyder) of Carthage, Illinois, a step son; Michael Christy of Keokuk, Iowa, a step daughter; Lindsey (Nate) Benstine of Keokuk, Iowa, a sister; Misty (Patrick) Schumacher of Canton, three brothers; Ronnie (Brandi) Fox II of Independence, Iowa, Scott Fox (Sarah Stark) of Neeper and Owen “Tiny” Fox (Sue Rogers) of Canton, three grandchildren; Owen “Owie” Christy, Bryson Dunn and Clayton Snyder, her beloved nieces & nephews; Heather (Josh) Magruder, Cruze “Jimmy Joe” (Madison) Fox, Ronald “Big Buddy” Fox III, Scarlett Fox, Jasmine Fox (Jay Hightower), Chandler “Johnny” Schumacher, Quintin Fox, Olivia Fox, Faith Fox, Clifford “Cliffy” Fox, Zebulon “Zebby” Fox, Zerelda “Zee” Fox and Ebeneezer “Ebby” Fox, her grandfather; Ralph Cole, her mother in law; Wyrene Christy of Revere, brothers in-law; Pete (Kelli) Christy and Fred (Bev) Christy both of Revere, a sister in-law; Dena Christy (Lee Wayland) of Revere and by several aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and her beloved cats that were like children to her.

Calvin Elschlager
04/09/1929 – 10/19/2020 (age 91)
He was born April 9, 1929 in Downing, MO the son of Olin and Cecil Farnsworth Elschlager.
Calvin graduated from Downing High School with the Class of 1947.
On October 30, 1949, Calvin was united in marriage to Donna Weirather in Kahoka, MO. They spent over 66 years together, sharing their love and raising their family.
He had been employed by several local businesses in Keokuk through the years, including Montgomery Ward, McLaughlin Firestone and lastly Linquist Furniture, until his retirement in 1985.
He had been a faithful and active member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Keokuk since 1957. He served as a Sunday School teacher for twenty-three years. He generously donated his time by helping with the staining and varnishing of the woodwork in the new building at the church.
Calvin took pride in his cars and kept them spotless. He loved to mow and take care of his yard. He enjoyed tinkering with things and could build or fix just about anything.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna on February 27, 2016, his parents, and one brother, Kenneth Elschlager.
He is survived by one son, David (Tina) Elschlager of Hamilton, IL, one daughter, Linda (Paul) Welborn of Keokuk, six grandchildren, Leah (David) Zanolla of Carthage, IL, Seth (Megan) Elschlager of St. Louis, MO and Becca (Rob) McEneaney of Crystal Lake, IL, Emily (Jesse) Hill of Burlington, IA, Abby Welborn of Gilbert, AZ and Maria Welborn of Bosie, ID, seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jonah and Lydia Zanolla, Addie and Olivia Elschlager, Judah Calvin McEneaney, Kylee and Marlee Hill.

Dewey Lee Clark
11/03/1942 – 09/19/2020 (age 77)
He was born November 3, 1942 in Ralls County, MO, the son of Frank and Annie Howald Clark. Dewey graduated from Mark Twain High School in Center, MO in 1961. After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his Basic Training in Oakland CA. He then had the pleasure of serving his country being stationed in Hawaii, where he was an Indirect Fire Infantry Man, Honor Guard, 2nd Battalion 21st Artillery. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Driver Mechanic’s Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Expert, and 2D Class Gunner Marksman Medals. After his enlistment he went on serving his country in the National Reserve until 1969.
On March 10, 1973 he married Deanna Williams in New London MO, they later divorced.
He was employed with Orscheln Products in Moberly, MO as Supervisor until his retirement. Before that he was employed with both JI Case and Benner Tea in Burlington IA.
He loved to garden, mushroom hunt, and play with his beloved dogs. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends. There was nothing better than a good family and friend gathering with good food.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
He is survived by his daughter Jeannie VanNiewaal (Rod) of Gulfport IL, two Grandchildren, Rodney VanNiewaal (Amy) of Gulfport IL, and Jocelyn Priebe (Brandon) of Nauvoo IL, three Great Grandchildren, Hayden VanNiewaal, Taylor Priebe and Brody Priebe, his ex-wife Deanna Holstein of Dallas City IL.

Gary Kimball Welsh
06/04/1947 – 09/07/2020 (age 73)
Gary was born June 4, 1947 in Keokuk, IA the middle son of Floren Richard and Marjorie Kimball Welsh. He graduated from Central Lee High School with the class of 1965. He then continued his education at the University of Iowa and graduated in 1969.
On August 16, 1974, Gary was united in marriage to Jeanne Moehn in Ft. Madison, IA. She survives.
Gary had been employed as an accountant for Burrows Packaging (formerly Midwest Wax) in Ft. Madison, IA for thirty-seven years retiring in 2006.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose.
Throughout the years Gary was active at the Elks Lodge, the Tri-State Gun Club, Keokuk Yacht Club, Southside Boat Club and the Smoking Gun Club.
Gary enjoyed taking two mile walks in Montrose, working in his garden, boating, trap shooting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew, Patrick Welsh and a sister-in-law, Barb Welsh.
Other survivors include two sons, Shane Hitchcock (Judie) of Keokuk and Joshua Welsh of Cedar Rapids, IA, two grandchildren, Hannah Long and Ethan Hitchcock, two brothers, Charles Welsh (Mary) of Montrose and John Welsh (Nellie) of Argyle, IA.

Robert married the former Patricia Cochran on April 5, 1993 in Gorin. She survives.
Robert liked to say that he was a jack of all trades, but a master of none. He enjoyed riding his bike, arrowhead hunting, deer hunting, camping, tinkering and pilfering.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home; daughters: Tiffany Dundee and significant other Andrew Alexander, of Mt. Tom married the former Sherry Jean Hammond on January 25, 1970 at the Granger United Methodist Church. She survives.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by parents; a brother, Robert Briggs; and brothers-in-law, William Garrett and Earnest Hammond.
He is survived his wife, Sherry, of the home; sons: Thomas and Max Briggs of Memphis; brothers: Richard (Elaine) Briggs, Garry (Patricia) Briggs, Paul (Debbie) Briggs, and Tony (Terri) Briggs, all of Memphis; a sister, Carol Garrett of Memphis; sisters in law: Carla (John) Peterson of Moberly and Gale (Curtis) Hustead of Colony; several nieces and nephews.

Shirley Anne Thompson
09/27/1931 – 08/26/2020 (age 88)
Shirley graduated from Meredosia Illinois High School with the class of 1949. Shirley completed three years of nursing training at Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, IA.
On September 6, 1953 Shirley was united in marriage to Kenneth Edward Thompson in Burlington. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2000.
As a registered nurse, Shirley specialized in Pediatrics and Premature Births. She worked at Graham Hospital for six years as an R.N. and also in private nursing duty. Shirley worked and ran the Blood Pressure Clinic at the American Legion for 30 years. She was the co-owner of Keokuk Abstract and Title Company with her husband Ken.
She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Keokuk and The Women’s Circle. She was an active member at the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 41. Shirley had been a member of the BPW in Keokuk since 1966 and held several positions in the district and state offices. She received the BPW Women of Achievement Award in 1980. She was a charter member of the Soroptimist Club. Shirley had volunteered at the Bloodmobile for many years.
Shirley enjoyed reading and she especially enjoyed her town of Keokuk. She loved her grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. Her love for her family and friends did not go unnoticed.
Besides her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Fleming and two step-brothers, William J. Fleming and David L. Fleming.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Anne (Tony) Douglas of Chatham, IL, three granddaughters, Jennifer Anne (Nathan) Kandis of Waterloo, WI, Megan Emily Douglas (Andy Ellis) of Richardson, TX, Sara Elizabeth Douglas (Noah Anderson) of San Jose, CA, one brother, Joseph M. Fleming (Diana) of Madison, WI, a sister-in-law, Eileen Fleming of Glenwood, IA, one step-sister, Mary Lou (Loren) Schultz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia R. "Pumpkin" Whiteaker
05/30/1935 – 07/22/2020 (age 85)
On October 18, 1952, Pumpkin was united in marriage to Carroll Whiteaker at Pocahonas, AR. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2012. Virginia graduated from Kahoka High School in the Class of 1952. She had a few jobs through the years but her family was her priority. She always made fun wherever she was. She had been an avid hunter and fisher in her day.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers-in-law: Gary Whiteaker, Charles "Mert" Rosencrans, Dean Edmondson, and Glen Haage; and dear friend, Norma Brink.
Survivors include her children: Beverly (Mark) Armstrong, David (Tina) Whiteaker, Jeff (Linda) Whiteaker, Betty Jane (Roger) Ludwick, and Carolyn (Roger) McAllister, all of Kahoka; ten grandchildren: Dani Murphy of Jacksonville, IL, Jason (Peggiann) Murphy of Burlington, Terra Whiteaker of Kahoka, Erin (Nick) Swindler of Keokuk, David Whiteaker, Jr. of Mt. Lucille Ann McPherson
12/14/1925 - 07/11/2020 (age 94)
She was born on December 14, 1925 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Henry and Juanita Thoeny Biddenstadt. Lucille had two sisters, Joyce Seabold and Dorothy High both who preceded her in death. She graduated from Keokuk Senior High with the Class of 1943.
On March 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to James McPherson. They had four children. Michael J., Patrick, Ann and Mary Lu. Both James and Mary Lu preceded her in death.
She had been employed at Keokuk Area Hospital for 19 years, from 1968 – 1987. In retirement, she and James moved to DeFuniak, FL.
Lucille was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, a charter member of Friendship Circle of King’s Daughters, the Keokuk Yacht Club and the American Legion Post 41 Auxiliary all in Keokuk. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4437 and a charter member of AMVETS Post 178 both in DeFuniak Springs, FL.
She is survived by two sons, Michael J. McPherson (Debbie) of Carthage, MO and Patrick McPherson (Kathleen) of Savannah, GA, one daughter, Ann Vogt (Alan) of Michigan, four grandchildren, Amy Vogt (Luis Cerda Hidalgo), Andrew Vogt, Scott M. McPherson (Manda Chorum) and James D. McPherson (Susan) and nine great grandchildren, Caylee, Peighton, Abygail, Ann and Emily McPherson, Aesah, Shiloh and Sophie Smith and Alana Cerda Vogt.

Barbara J. Jenkins
06/20/1926 - 06/25/2020 (age 94)
Barbara graduated from Boone High School in Boone, IA in 1944 and American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA in 1945. She worked for several years in Des Moines, IA and then upon moving to Kahoka, she worked for Moore Business Forms and Family Services.
The past 70 years she has lived near and in Kahoka, MO where she was a member of the Bluff Springs UMC and Kahoka UMC and taught many years of Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of the Clark County Board of the American Cancer Society for 40 years, K-Ettes Extension Club, WOW group, Chapter AW, PEO, and was a member of the original P.L.A.Y. group which obtained land for O-MAK-O-HAK park and the swimming pool.
She and Ted enjoyed a great many winters after retiring in the Rio Grande Valley in Harlingen, Texas where they participated in many activities, outings and travel. Barb continued to go to Texas and travel after Ted passed away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, William Franklin and John Joseph Sheppard; and two nephews, Steven and Bruce Michael Sheppard.
Survivors include one daughter, Denise (John) Hartford of Humboldt, IA;one son, Greg Jenkins of Kahoka; two grandchildren: Adam (Kim) Hartford of Iowa Falls, IA and Ryan (Kristi) Hartford of Humboldt, IA; seven great-grandchildren: Grace, Collin, Barrett, Leah, Nicole, Michelle and Nathan; also nieces and nephews.

Larry Ralph Buschling
08/01/1948 - 06/22/2020 (age 71)
Larry (and Pam) graduated from CCR-1 in 1966 and from Northeast Missouri State College in 1970. Larry taught high school math and coached in Keosauqua, IA, as well as Nauvoo, IL. Larry then received his Master’s Degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Missouri in Rolla. The family made many moves with Larry as he advanced in his career of engineering, gaining honors and respect for both his abilities and his character. Larry’s career also let him and Pam share and enjoy the ability to travel to many parts of the world. When Larry retired in 2008, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida, time near his parents, playing golf, and playing cards. Larry enjoyed and took great pride in his grandchildren’s musical and sports activities. His greatest joy of all was ""adventuring"" in the RV with family and friends. In July 2013, Larry was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, which could only be cured by transplant. His family and the remarkable staff at the Falk Clinic at UPMC Hospital, notably Dr. Silpa Kilaru, got him put on the transplant list, and in January of 2014 he was gifted a second chance at life by the generous donation of new lungs in a successful bi-lateral lung transplant. Larry shared in an additional six and a half years of life owing to that donor, his doctors, and the care and dedication of his family and friends.
Larry was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, where services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery in Kahoka. Arrangements are being handled by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Survivors include, his parents, Ralph and Rose Marie Buschling of Wayland; his wife of 51 years, Pamela (Isely) Buschling of Allison Park PA; one son, Brandon (Sam) Buschling and their daughter, Laurie, of Murfreesboro, TN; one daughter, Erin (John) Bushouse of Columbus, IN and their children, Katharine and Collin Brunette; a sister, Debra (Dennis) Alexander of Broomfield, CO; a brother, Randy (Tami) Buschling of Ladue, MO; along with many nieces and nephews, special relatives, and friends.

Larry Martin
05/12/1940 - 06/26/2020 (age 80)
Larry graduated from Pekin High School and Western Illinois University.
He was first married to Carlene Dieker (Lemon) and to this union four children were born, Jeff, Bob, Janine and Becky. They later divorced
On March 16, 1991, Larry was united in marriage to Sharon K. Lomax Harrison in Hamilton, IL. She survives.
Larry had owned MMC Enterprises (Tool and Die and Pattern shop) in Keokuk for 40 plus years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #106 and the Southside Boat Club both in Keokuk. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Larry enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing and investing. He also enjoyed restoring old cars, especially his 1956 Corvette. He loved listening to Paul Harvey. One of Larry’s proudest moment was when he traveled with the Governor of Iowa on a trade mission to China. Most of all Larry cherished the time he spent with his family and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Randy Townsend and Larry Dean and one daughter-in-law, Julie Martin.
He is also survived by two sons, Jeff S. Martin (Beth Ann Storm) of Benson, MN and Bob Martin (Jody) of Keokuk, two daughters, Janine Riney (Russell) of Wayland, MO and Becky S. Johnson (Wade) of Keokuk, one step-daughter, Karla Harrison (Curt Nichols) of Hamilton, IL, one step-son, Kevin Harrison (Ginger) of Hamilton, IL, seventeen grandchildren, Josh Martin (Sherry) of Sioux City, IA, Jeremiah Martin (LeeAnn Wiegand) of Keokuk, J.R. Martin (Anika) of Moline, IL, Mollie Vandenberg (Elliott) of Granger, WY, Jordan Martin of Dubuque, IA, Kayde Martin of Keokuk, Russell Ian Riney, Julianna Riney and Carlee Riney all of Wayland, MO, Addison Johnson, Ella Johnson and Alexa Johnson all of Keokuk, Christopher Keefe and Tiffany Baxter (Jason) all of Hamilton, IL, Brandon Matlock (Rachel) of Colorado Springs, CO, Chelsea Hopp (Anthony) and Wesley Harrison all of Hamilton, IL and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother, Keith Martin (Shirley) of Pekin, IL and two sisters, Connie Dean and Sue Townsend both of Pekin, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Delene Rae Atterberg
10/31/1959 - 05/31/2020 (age 60)
On September 22, 1984, Delene was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kevin Atterberg in Keokuk.
After graduating from high school, Delene worked at the Miss Cafe in Montrose. She then worked at the Holiday Inn in Keokuk for twenty-five years as the kitchen manager. She was well known for the delicious soups she created. Following her employment at the Holiday Inn she worked for Bob Sanders and his late wife Ruth at the Americana Motel in Ft. Madison., IA. Later she worked for Diane Gerveler at the Forever Christmas Store in Keokuk. She had also been a companion for Gracia Wright until her death in 2012 and then she babysat three special children for the Will’s family.
Delene discovered a love for painting after taking lessons at the Lost Canvas. She often painted canvas pictures for families who had lost a loved one. She also painted pictures for the K-Play Fund raisers. Delene enjoyed taking care of her yard and her pool. She loved to mow grass and prune her garden. Delene did her best thinking when she was on her lawn mower. She had a sharp eye when it came to mushroom hunting and was known to be able to see them from her car. She loved her jewelry and shopping on QVC. She was an avid collector of stained glass. Some of Delene’s favorite pastimes were sitting in her rocking chair, looking out her big picture window and watching the birds. She also enjoyed having a good cup of coffee, a Cheryl’s cookie and a piece of cake with buttercream frosting. Delene was devoted to her family and had a deep love for her husband and daughters. She was very proud of them. Her two best friends were her brother and sister. A special joy to her was her niece Nettie Adelle Wildrick who the family believes helped carry her and conquer her battle with stage 4 throat cancer in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Erin Dowell (John’s significant other).
Delene is survived by her husband Kevin Wayne Atterberg of Montrose, who has been employed for forty-three years with Canal Barge Company, two daughters, Lydia Rose Atterberg (Corey Meyers) of Keokuk, an insurance agent with American Family Insurance in Ft. Madison, and Kaylene Dale Brunenn (Lucas) of Bowen, IL, an LPN with Quincy Medical Group and her two grand-dogs, Annabelle and Fancy. She is also survived by one sister, Trena Wildrick of Ft. Madison, four brothers, John Wildrick of Montrose, Michael Wildrick (Diane) of Carthage, IL, Ricky Wildrick (Lori) of Elvaston, IL and Richard Wildrick (Valerie) of Hamilton, IL, one brother-in-law, Jeff Atterberg (Linda) of Keokuk, numerous nieces and nephews including, Trisha Kinnary, Jason Wildrick Amanda Wildrick, Keith Leenerts, Christopher Wildrick, Nettie Adelle Wildrick, Michael, Melissa and Megan Atterberg and a very close, special friend, Lynn Carter. She loved her cat, Gracie and her little dog, Winnie.
