Here is Justin getting ready to receive T-cells in a CAR-T trial, a ground-breaking therapy intended to train his own immune system to destroy the rhabdomyosarcoma cells. We know that his willingness to participate in these kinds of trials will make a difference for those who are diagnosed with the disease. Survival rates for vary by a range of factors, including the original location of the tumor, how far the disease has spread, and the molecular makeup of the disease. Spoon was initially placed in the Intermediate Risk category with a 50-70% chance of five-year survival. Later he was found to have a particularly aggressive mutation in his tumor. We have so much to learn about this disease, which is why research is critical!

This time last year, "Coach Spoon" was headed off to coach cross country camp for Columbus East High School as their Assistant Coach— It was one of the greatest honors and privileges of his life.

Spotlight on research funded by Alice's Arc! This one focuses on liquid biopsies (think tests like PSA...that are not currently available to monitor chidren's cancers)! Alice's Arc is made up of a series of arcs. Spoon's Arc is part of the US expansion (501c3 pending), and along with all of the other arcs, pool funds raised to make investments in groundbreaking research like this!
Spoon's Arc will be sharing ways to spread awareness and to develop fundraisers in the coming months.
