I do a lot of different types of leatherwork, but holsters are by far my favorite.

Holsters really are their own kind of leatherwork. Compared to other projects, holsters take quite a bit more time and one small mistake in measurement can turn the entire thing into an unusable paperweight.

While there are some set techniques to start from each new design and new holster will be subject to trial and error, designs will be redrawn and templates will be adjusted. It's just the nature of the craft.

Some holsters can be made in just a few hours, while others will take exceedingly longer (i.e. dozens of hours over days).

A recent project was an example of this, the initial design was done 3 different times in different ways, each one had to be reworked, redrawn and re-laid out. Once that was done a holster had to be made to test the design so any final adjustments could be made before the commissioned piece was crafted.

A custom wallet is always a good gift!

Here is a wallet with a specially requested color pallet (meant to match some other leather items already owned).

Took a little trial and error to get the tones right, but in the end it came out well.

What do you do with a thermos that has no handle? You put one on it!

Had some fun with this one. Added a wrap with affixed handle to a thermos to make it a little easier to tote around either to work, to the kid's game or to the trail head.

Constructed out of 7/8oz veg tanned leather. Gave the body some simple geometric carving. The straps were simply riveted in place with snaps added to attach it to the thermos.

The handle was given a bit of heat treatment to harden it up slightly.

Quick and easy weekend afternoon project, might make more!

Custom leather pouch for an antique straight razor. The body is constructed of 5oz veg tanned leather, dyed and sealed with a water resistance top coat to assist in protecting the razor after use.

The inside is lined in a chrome free suede to prevent any issues in contact with the antique steel. For those that don't know, chrome tanned leather + moisture + high carbon steel = rust (and sad faces)

The closure was designed as a simple pull through using friction to hold the strap in place.

Initials stamped in at request.

Sewing, again with a heavier 1mm thread and saddle stitched for strength.

Recently completed dog collar. Constructed from 10oz veg tanned leather for the body and 6oz for the billet. The collar is fastened with solid rivets at the stress points and is saddle stitched with a heavier 1.0mm thread. Hardware is all stainless steel with welded d-rings for strength.

Some recent card holders. They work equally well for business cards or as a minimalist wallet.

Had one of those ideas pop into my brain the other day that I just had to work on.

Everybody has seen the classic western holsters from the movies, this design was inspired by the traditional western gun belt but with modern options.

The holster is reinforced with kydex to allow a smooth draw and weapon retention.

The belt is punched with holes to allow the pouches / holsters, etc. to be attached / removed / changed out. As well, since they are mounted with threaded posts, nothing slides around or moves.

Lots of work, Fun project, Not sure when or where I'll get to use it... but iIll figure something out 🤠

Just finished up a custom holster.

I was thinking about taking pictures as I went this time, but I realized I still left out stages of the project like initial tracing of the revolver, laying out the template design,transferring those to the leather, cutting the leather and trimming the pieces, laying out stitch lines, glue areas, dying and stamping the reinforcement piece...buuut I guess that just leaves room for improvement. 🤷‍♂️

Also, since Facebook has lots of weird restrictions on getting posts out, liking and sharing would be super helpful. 😉

Back at the facebooking again. I haven't been posting projects as I went but I've been staying busy!

I'm going to be doing some projects on trades and uniform gear in the near future, I'll post up pictures as I complete those.

Also, I'm thinking about doing some build videos... looking for project ideas... let me know if you would like to see something made from start to finish.
