The band continues their exploration into more powerful, thoughtful, and creative songwriting. Venturing further and further from their garage rock roots, their new music breathes an americana folk essence while brandishing the energy of a band in full stride.

The single exudes a laid-back, feel-good groove layered with lush, soft vocal melodies. Thematically, it’s about feeling tired and defeated, and finding the courage to finally stand-up for yourself and move on.

"There are a lot of (different) kinds of new wave, but I like the really dark sh-t,” says Miller, who will begin a tour of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on March 22 that ends May 4 at the National Music Centre. “I like guttural, dark (music). I know guttural is a funny word, but it’s what I used all the time. I’d say to Graham: ‘More guttural. More Depeche Mode.’ He’s say ‘I know, I know.’ I call it dark wave. I don’t know if that’s a real genre or I just made it up.”

The title of the song references an Al Purdy poem called “Transient” about traveling across Canada by train as an adolescent. The opening lines are about crossing the prairies “so close to the violent sway of the fields it’s like running and running naked with the summer in your mouth.”

Amelie Patterson's latest single The War is out today!

It's a song about recognizing the invisible struggles that others are going through, and finding your own place as you lend support for a battle you can’t fight.

The War was recorded in Calgary with producer Will Maclellan (Phoebe Bridgers, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift) with long-time collaborators Barry Mason, Carson Gant and Kyle Tenove.
