The Goonies finally found their way to home video today in 1986, after a June 7th, 1985 theatrical release.

I have zero objectivity for this one. I love the Astorian scenery, I love the soundtrack, I love the continuity goofs, I love the BMXs, the product placement, the cartoony sound efffects, the cast, the crew, the Drew Struzan poster, Cindy Lauper on the TV, the Purple Rain t-shirt, the leg warmers, the headbands… I love that this movies tries to be as 1985 as possible, and I love that I was the Goonies' age when this was released. We would have hung out. Mostly I love it for its earnest wish-fulfilment and that's good enough for me.

I never understood why noted music composer Dave Grusin didn't score more big fantasy films. His incredible “Fratelli's Chase” is one of my favourite bits of film score - I get goosebumps and start air-batoning every time Joe Pantoliano starts pouring gasoline.

Corey Feldman became well known for roles in hit films such as Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Gremlins, The Goonies, and Stand by Me, Donatello in the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, One of the Frog Brothers in The Lost Boys, starred in the teen comedy License to Drive and the romantic comedy Dream a Little Dream and many more. He also starred in the A&E reality series The Two Coreys, with Corey Haim which ran from 2007 to 2008, and voiced Copper in Disney’s The Fox & the Hound.
